The event, held at DP World Wanderers Stadium, brought together participants from across the country for a five-kilometer walk promoting unity, solidarity, active citizenship and healthy living. Ramaphosa greeted participants upon arriving at the venue, delivered remarks before the start of the event and later walked the route alongside thousands of attendees. The annual event is held to commemorate the birthday of Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first Black president and a leading figure in the struggle against apartheid. Organizers also used the occasion, observed as Nelson Mandela International Day by the United Nations since 2009, to call for continued efforts to tackle poverty and inequality while preserving Mandela's legacy.
