During a visit to Somalia, Conway met government officials, UN teams and humanitarian aid representatives while assessing conditions in different regions. He said around 6.5 million people are expected to face severe food insecurity, while nearly 2 million are experiencing emergency levels of hunger. Conway also warned that nearly 2 million children are at risk of malnutrition as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. Somalia has faced the consequences of insufficient rainfall over the past three years, contributing to worsening drought conditions and food shortages. Although rainfall has recently begun in some areas, Conway said the improvement has not yet led to a significant recovery in humanitarian conditions.
