Mimaropa, Philippines - September 10, 2026 The Philippine Coast Guard continues search and rescue operations following the fire that broke out aboard MV June Aster in the waters off Coron on September 9, 2026. According to PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, 42 individuals had been rescued as of 11:10 p.m. on September 9, while five casualties were initially reported. On September 11, joint authorities reported that 30 cadavers had been recovered aboard MV June Aster after the fire was declared out and a safety assessment was completed. Retrieval and transfer of the cadavers began at around 5:16 p.m. using BRP Cape Engaño, according to Cayabyab. The remains are scheduled to be transported to the Port of Borac in Coron on September 12, with an estimated arrival time of 11 a.m.
