VARIOUS OF REMOTELY OPERATED UNDERWATER VEHICLE ABOARD TCG ISINKYRENIA, TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS - SEP. 1: The number of people missing after a passenger vessel capsized off the coast of Northern Cyprus rose to 20 on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as search and rescue operations continued. The high-speed passenger ferry Filo Jet, operating between Kyrenia in the TRNC and the Port of Tasucu in Mersin, Türkiye, began taking on water from its bow shortly after departing Kyrenia on Sunday. The vessel capsized while attempting to return to Kyrenia. Of the 267 people aboard — 259 passengers and eight crew members — 241 were rescued and eight were killed. According to information obtained by Anadolu, search operations for the 20 missing people are continuing with one aircraft, five unmanned aerial vehicles, seven helicopters, eight ships and nine boats. Turkish Navy rescue and towing vessel TCG Isin is coordinating search efforts in the area where the wreck was located at a depth of 514 meters. The vessel, which can conduct search and rescue operations at depths of up to one kilometer, is expected to deploy personnel equipped with pressure-resistant suits and a remotely operated underwater vehicle to the wreck.
