VARIOUS OF SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS AT SEAKYRENIA, TRNC - AUG 31, 2026: Search and rescue operations continued by sea and air on Monday, Aug. 31, for 18 people missing after a passenger vessel carrying 267 people capsized off Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday. Military vessels and boats from Türkiye and the TRNC are taking part in the operation, supported from the air by a CASA military aircraft, several unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters. Divers and underwater teams are also searching for the missing, while a crisis center at Kyrenia Port is coordinating the operations. The high-speed passenger vessel “Filo Jet,” operating between Kyrenia and Tasucu in Türkiye’s Mersin province, began taking on water shortly after departing Kyrenia on Sunday and capsized while attempting to return to the port. The vessel was carrying 267 people, including 259 passengers and eight crew members. A total of 241 people were rescued, eight were killed and 18 remain missing.
