Death toll from passenger vessel sinking off Northern Cyprus rises to 14.

The latest recovery was the sixth body found during search operations for victims of the vessel sinking off Girne (Kyrenia), while 14 people remain missing. Search operations are being conducted under the command of the Turkish Naval Forces' Southern Sea Area Command. The body was transported from the search area to Girne Port. Following the arrival of the search and rescue vessels TCG Isin and TCG Alemdar, the remains will be sent to Türkiye after the necessary procedures are completed. The high-speed passenger vessel, which operated between Girne Port in the TRNC and Tasucu Port in Türkiye's southern Mersin province, began taking on water from the bow shortly after departing Girne around noon on Aug. 30. The vessel sank while attempting to return to Girne Port. TRNC Prime Minister Unal Ustel said 267 passengers and crew members were aboard, of whom 239 were rescued. The wreck was located at a depth of 554 meters (1,818 feet) off the coast of Girne. Fourteen people have been confirmed dead, while search and rescue efforts continue for the remaining 14 missing people.
