Food prices in Gaza have risen beyond the reach of many families amid Israel’s ongoing blockade and attacks on the enclave for more than two years. According to the World Food Programme, 1.6 million people in Gaza face severe food insecurity, including more than 100,000 children and 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. Israel has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, leaving the territory’s 2.4 million people on the verge of starvation. Israeli attacks have killed 930 Palestinians and injured 2,819 since a ceasefire took effect more than seven months ago, according to the Gaza Media Office. The ceasefire halted Tel Aviv's two-year genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 73,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 173,000, most of them women and children, according to Palestinian figures.
