Storyline Night market in China's small commodities hub shines with global flair Yiwu City in China’s Zhejiang Province is known as the "world's capital of small commodities". What’s lesser known is its 800 stall, 350 kilometer night market on Santing Road- the city's oldest and most vibrant after-dark destination. More than 350,000 people visited the market during this year's five-day May Day holiday, generating about $1.8 million U.S. dollars in revenue . The market splits neatly into daily goods and dining zones, offering everything from seasonal fashion to Chinese and international street food. What sets it apart, visitors say, is the variety. Lai, shopper: "Other night markets are basically food or entertainment only. But at this night market, there is everything from food to clothing — so many choices." Beyond commerce, the market doubles as a community hub. Jiang Wei, deputy general manager, Yiwu Market Development Group: "We curate unmissable monthly activities and seasonal themes to keep the experience fresh, while rolling out consumer-friendly measures such as lucky draws and coupons, so that everyone can truly experience Yiwu's unique charm — its international flair and vibrant local atmosphere." The market also organizes stage performances and offers six free services to residents, including haircuts, and book swaps. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
