Storyline Overseas warehouses give Chinese firms a borderless edge in global markets For Chinese companies, overseas warehouses are the new frontline of global competition. These spaces hold not just inventory, but the promise of next-day delivery in markets where Chinese brands once meant a weeks-long wait. And increasingly, they are being stocked with sophisticated products like made-in-China AI glasses and ceiling fan lamps that are tailored for local preferences. Chen Jingwen, foreign trade manager, KBS Ceiling Fans: "Because Europeans love rustic, natural wood-style interiors, and their rooms tend to have lower ceilings, we designed this ceiling fan lamp in that style. We've sold over 20,000 units this year alone, shipped through overseas warehouses to Germany, then distributed to other countries like Spain, France, and parts of the Netherlands." In the European market, in particular, high-end products are just as prevalent in warehouses as low-value products, especially after the EU’s recent move to scrap its duty-free exemption for low-value goods. Zhang Mao, European operations manager, Niuku International Logistics: "Over the past year or so, our customers have been doubling down on building their brands. Their product categories are getting more focused and specialized, and their average order values are trending upward. We're also seeing a noticeable spike in demand for AI-related products. Across North America, including the U.S. and Canada, and Europe, our warehousing space has more than doubled compared to the same period last year." Customs data shows that in H1, China's cross-border e-commerce exports via overseas warehouses surged by 330 percent from a year prior. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
