Hey wanderers, prepared to wander out in the woods today. Going to be taking a look at a canteen kit that I put together
0:33
This is the Pathfinder Canteen Bag. And I've got some goodies in here I want to share with you guys today
0:41
and show you how I carry my canteen kit in this thing and all that it holds
0:46
So stick around. So recently I got this canteen bag from Pathfinder Self-Reliance Outfitters
0:55
And that's Dave Canterbury's store where he sells his stuff. And this is their branded, you can see the logo right there
1:05
branded MOLLE canteen bag. And you can use it, it doesn't have to be for a canteen, it can be for a water bottle
1:14
you can use it for anything you want it to. But mine is set up as a canteen kit
1:19
And a canteen kit is nice because if you want to go out scouting around
1:24
and you don't want to carry a big backpack, you just want to have, you know, some water, some essentials with you
1:31
this is a great way to carry it. Not too different than a haversack
1:37
except this is really more geared towards preparing water, cooking coffee, making coffee, cooking food, and that kind of stuff
1:49
So the supplies in it are very geared towards preparation of water and cooking
1:55
So that's what I use it for. And I want to show you what I have in this thing
2:00
and then talk about the bag itself because the bag, I think, is pretty darn nice
2:05
And it's a great option for people who are looking to put together a canteen kit of some sort
2:10
So let's take a look at what's in this thing and talk about the bag a little bit more
2:15
So here's the bag itself. It is a nylon Cordura type material
2:23
I don't think it's Cordura brand, but it's a nylon material of some sort that has kind of a canvas feel to it
2:35
MOLLE webbing on the sides, on both sides. And you can see here I've got a MOLLE sheath attached to mine with a multi-tool in it
2:45
You've got plastic hardware. There's D-rings on the side for a shoulder strap
2:52
It comes with a shoulder strap. This is not the shoulder strap that came with it
2:58
I actually replaced it with this shoulder strap because the one that it comes with I felt is a little too short for me
3:05
in the way I carry and then just my body type. I'm taller. I'm 6'1"
3:11
And this shoulder strap is just a little too short for my torso weight
3:15
so I went with a little bit longer strap, so I replaced it with this strap
3:20
But the strap that it comes with is very similar to this. It's just a little bit shorter, so take that into account
3:27
Moving back to the bag, there is these D-rings back here and MOLLE attachments
3:36
So if you wanted to strap this to another bag, you certainly could do that
3:41
And then there's a pocket back here as well, and it goes all the way to the bottom of the bag, so it's very deep
3:49
I don't have anything back there right now. I just keep the straps, the MOLLE straps, stored back there so they're out of the way
4:00
Of course, a nice large grab handle on the top. Dave's logo right there
4:09
Pretty cool. Nice big buckle on the front. Adjustable buckle so that you can actually adjust this and make it bigger or smaller
4:19
tighten it up if you need to. So let's go to the inside of the kit
4:23
Open up the bag. Lid opens up, folds back. And I've got in here a key
4:37
This is Keith Titanium Canteen. I bought this on, I believe, Amazon
4:42
This is the same as the Heavy Cover. Keith manufactures the Heavy Cover Canteen, I believe
4:49
And this is just their branding on it instead of the Heavy Cover branding on it, but it's essentially the same canteen
4:56
It's titanium, like I said. I've had this for quite a while
5:00
Really a great canteen set. Love it. Lightweight and very durable. It's been on a lot of adventures with me
5:09
I take it everywhere and use it quite extensively. So there's that
5:14
Then down below, inside the pocket, is the cup. It's definitely seen some use on the fire
5:28
Got a little scorching inside of it. I'll get that cleaned up
5:34
Then there's a pocket in the back. See that right there? I've got my lid to my canteen cup
5:51
And here I have a pocket stove. This is one of these folding stoves
5:55
This is from Camping International. Sent me this stove. And I've done a review of this stove before
6:04
It's titanium. It's a little folding stove. They're Wild Camping
6:14
There we go. Wild Camping International. They're out of the UK. Great company
6:26
But this will fit any number of stoves that you have. Like the fire ants
6:33
Things like that. There's another pocket in the front of the bag right here
6:53
In the front facing area. And I've got a rubber folding cup
7:01
This has a storm collar built into it. That you can cinch down if you need to
7:13
Like that. And that'll just keep your contents from popping out or whatnot
7:20
I keep it usually just opened up like this. That way I can access the contents a little quicker and easier for me
7:28
Then we have a front pocket right here. I've got a spoon. This is from Wild Camping International
7:39
I'm going to open this up. I've got some fire cubes to start a fire with
7:49
I've got coffee, creamer. Accessory packets
8:04
I've got a butane lighter. And I've also got another stove. I've got my BCB Fire Dragon
8:15
In case I want to brew up some coffee real quick on the trail. And I don't want to use the twig burning stove
8:22
I can run this thing really quickly and easily. And all this fits inside this pocket
8:28
And there's actually another stash pocket right here. So lots of options for carrying stuff
8:37
As you can see, this thing holds a lot. And when you start adding pouches to the side, you're going to be adding a lot of volume to the bag
8:50
So it's really up to you as far as your imagination as to how much you want to carry on this thing
8:54
You can strap more pockets to it. I don't want to get too crazy. I think the Mollie Sheath is enough for me having a multi-tool
9:05
So as you can tell, this bag holds a lot. And it's perfectly designed for a canteen kit
9:14
Or a water bottle kit of some sort. Or a brew kit, whatever you want to call it
9:19
This is mine. This is what I use for bushcrafting, hiking around
9:23
Scouting out places. It's a nice quick-grab kind of thing. I can throw this in the back of my car and not worry about it
9:31
It holds everything I need for a day out. The quality for the bag itself seems to be pretty good
9:39
The buckles are nice and solid. They're not flimsy or cheap. The sewing and stitching seems to be pretty decent on it
9:47
It comes in two colors, black and this coyote tan. Like I said before, the strap I feel is kind of short that it comes with
9:57
It does have a shoulder strap pad on it. But it's very small
10:03
It just doesn't really do a lot for me. So I went with a longer strap just to accommodate my body type
10:09
It may work for you the way it is. But just keep that in mind if you're going to be purchasing this
10:16
I think these go for around $34 somewhere in that neighborhood on selfrelianceoutfitters.com
10:25
Check their website out. They may be running some specials for the holidays
10:30
I don't know. It's always a possibility. But this will definitely, I think, be an option for you if you're looking to set up a canteen kit
10:40
Now I used to carry the Mother Canteen Carrier. And that thing is really super nice, but it's also really expensive
10:48
And it doesn't hold that much. And I felt it just was limiting on what it could carry
10:53
So I went with something like this. This is a little bit bigger
10:57
It reminds me almost like a camera bag. And it would probably be a good camera bag, actually, if you wanted to use it for that
11:04
But it's perfectly set up for a canteen set. And that's what I'm using mine for
11:11
Hopefully you found this video useful. As always, please like, subscribe, and share
