What's more fun than beach fishing for massive schools of pink salmon?!? This fishery is really simple, but so much fun! I talk about ideal rod and lure selection to maximize efficiency in hooking these pink salmon as well as having a blast fighting them in.
Tides are also really important, a few hours after low slack and it got crazy!
Like the title says, life's a beach and the pinks are here dude, get out there and have some fun!

Yeah. Oh my goodness. Go doubled up, man. We're both in the shop and they just opened Marine Area 11 for beach fishing for Coho and Pink
0:17
So I thought time to go down to the old stomping grounds, see what we can get from the beach
0:23
What's that? Yeah, you're the guy with the channel, right? Uh. I also met some really nice people, really cool guys down there
0:30
They knew the channel. The guy was saying that my shrimping video, you know, got him into some shrimp one of the days
0:36
Hopefully you can make a video at it today, man. We gotta start catching them
0:41
I know. It's just great that we get to fishery again, man. I just love hearing that, you know, people are watching and getting stuff in the videos and
0:48
it's helping them be successful. That was really cool to hear. Alright, so let's get you geared up for this fishery
0:53
Pretty simple. You don't need a lot of gear. You want to get the right rod with enough backbone to chuck half to one hour
0:59
ounce lure as far out there as you can get while still having a lot of fun these pinks are so
1:05
much fun when you hook them or coho so you want to be able to be able to put a good bend in the rod
1:11
something flexible and so i i like this something between like a quarter ounce to half ounce lure
1:17
weighting and something that's you know got some faster action on it i was using a slower action
1:23
rod just because it was ridiculously fun but i couldn't cast as far out as i needed to so here's the deal
1:29
What happens is early on in the tide cycle, right? The fish tend to be further out
1:35
And if you can't check out far enough, you're not going to get bit. And as the tide comes in, say an hour, two hours after low slack
1:44
now they're coming in closer. It almost doesn't matter what you use. Everyone's getting fish
1:48
You know, that's when I got mine on my 3 eighth ounce jig I was using
1:51
But the guy next to me was checking out a one ounce buzz bomb and he was hooking up more often
1:56
So many different lures work. You know, I mean, you see every. with their pink stuff, but you don't have to have pink stuff
2:01
You can have stuff that's flashy or shiny as well. That brings them in. The guy, another guy who was hooking up early on
2:08
had like a bronze glittery lure with a hook and a little pink squid on the hook
2:14
A lot of different things work, you know? It doesn't have to be just pink
2:18
You know, you got buzz bombs, you've got spinners, you got jigs, a lot of things work
2:23
You want to present them slow enough though, because pinks don't, you know, do well chasing something fast. Yep
2:29
Nice Nice I started retrieving slowly and I got smacked Nice Oh dude that crazy You happy I got there a reasonable time It can be too heavy right
2:42
Because then you've got to jig it too quickly to keep it out of the, out of the grass
2:46
You know, there's tons of grass. You're constantly cleaning your lure from grass crap that gets on it
2:52
So, but it can't be so light that you can't get it out there very far
2:56
So you got to balance those things. They're out there. You too. Just straight up in front a little further than we're casting but they're coming to the surface
3:10
We got to reel in a little faster maybe. Get it up above all the grass on the bottom that way
3:22
Come on. Hey, go, baby
3:36
Hey, cows. Hey
3:46
Tiny little one. Yeah, you gotta have confidence in whatever you're doing
4:01
I definitely, historically I usually get them on this little jig versus what I was using earlier
4:08
But it's just been so long since I've done it. Till the tide's wet
4:16
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, I was looking at going on I want to be the first thing, but I know it's going to be better once it's
4:28
Closer to the closer to the high tide just not till like what one-thirty or something like that is it is it
4:39
Yeah, that's awesome Oh Oh Oh yeah
4:51
Come on Yeah Yeah Oh Come on What What What
5:05
What And my battery died right when I hooked up like
5:16
I was trying to... Oh, it's so annoying. I don't really enjoy filming stuff that much
5:23
It's a task. It's such a, yeah, it's such a pain
5:28
Oh, yeah. The editing and stuff, like, like, Ryan did. Yeah. It's true
5:33
I've met some really good people through doing it. people through doing it though it's fun that's really more what it's about than
5:40
anything because I've been hitting Westport and then I've been I sprained my knee
5:47
a few weeks ago and I'm actually doing this before a doctor's appointment
5:51
trying to figure out so my boat's in the shop getting the autopilot repaired my
5:55
knees been in the shop trying to recover yeah so it's been uh it's been uh
6:04
of pain so I've been trying to I've been trying to take a little easier on stuff my wife's like
6:08
so you're gonna go fishing this morning huh I'm like well I'm gonna stand in ice-cooled
6:13
Puget Soundwater and numb my knee I said very short walk to the you know so I figured
6:21
that I figured that would work and it's it's worked pretty good this morning I haven't
6:26
heard it but oh they're jumping out there oh yeah I mean they're probably just
6:31
Oh my god, yeah. Yeah. Probably another big school coming in. Yeah. Oh, you see them finning out there
6:43
They're just out of reach. You probably reach them with that. Oh, that's right into them. Come on
7:01
I was just there. That's right where they were finning. Is it straight out
7:16
You're coming straight out you? Yeah. Yeah, it is. That's funny
7:37
The Yeah Yeah
8:10
The school's coming in close. This one I got on video
8:20
This one I got on video
8:40
Oh it is. Come on. Nice. No, you go. Nice. No, you're good
8:56
There you go beat yourself. Come on. Come on
9:09
And you go. Yeah, another humpy dumpy. Come on dumpy
9:39
Yeah. This is an incredible fishery
9:57
You all hopefully get a chance to take part in it because there's a lot of pinks
10:02
Their pinks are spread out between CQ and Marine Area 11 right now
10:06
and there's a lot of them headed our way. and this fisher's going to go for a few weeks before they really start charging up the river
10:14
So get out there, get it done
