0:00
my name is zach george i'm 30 years old
0:02
born and bred in leicester
0:04
owner of crossfit bfg and last year's
0:06
crown the uk's fittest man
0:12
i first found functional fitness when my
0:14
dad showed me a youtube video of the
0:17
games and he said i think you're gonna
0:20
enjoy this and he'd be pretty good at
0:22
so i watched it and was instantly hooked
0:24
i just saw athletes doing
0:26
all sorts of crazy stuff they were
0:30
ups really good olympic weightlifting
0:33
and it just looked so much fun and
0:36
it was my goal to one day compete at the
0:40
all those athletes back then who i
0:42
watched at the games have inspired me
0:44
my proudest achievement is by far
0:48
being crowned the uk's fittest man and
0:51
at the games in 2020 it was a seven year
0:55
to to compete the games and to qualify
0:57
for it and i finally did
0:59
but unfortunately due to the pandemic i
1:00
wasn't able to actually compete at the
1:02
but um yeah that's definitely by far my
1:04
proudest achievement what keeps me
1:07
is the goal that i set so my main goal
1:11
and has always been to compete at the
1:14
i've had lots of little goals along the
1:16
way that i tick off and achieve and that
1:17
keeps me motivated along the journey
1:19
i find it it can be quite daunting if
1:22
you have a goal that you're aiming for
1:23
in two or three years time
1:25
it's very important to set little goals
1:27
along that way which keeps you motivated
1:29
and for me those little goals were
1:31
little competitions to win
1:33
or to compete at competitions around the
1:37
and eventually over the years i worked
1:40
hard enough every single day to to
1:41
finally achieve the goal of qualifying
1:44
kovid's had a big impact on my trading
1:48
more so than my training i'd say but
1:51
unfortunately due to kovid
1:52
i wasn't able to compete at the game so
1:55
that was a big setback
1:57
and it was quite hard at the time but
2:00
for me i'm extremely positive person
2:02
and there's a lot of other people
2:04
affected by covert worse than i was
2:06
people losing their jobs a lot of people
2:09
losing their lives due to the pandemic
2:11
for me just not being able to to compete
2:14
at the games in the grand scheme of
2:17
a big deal but i wanted to turn it into
2:19
a positive and i hope that i could
2:21
inspire as many people in a tough
2:23
situation during that time
2:25
nutrition is extremely important for any
2:27
athlete and any human being really
2:30
i luckily have a nutrition coach that
2:32
looks after all my nutritional
2:34
macro needs that's empty performance and
2:37
i put all my trust into my coach
2:40
and he tells me how many macros i should
2:43
it's very easy for me to hit those
2:45
macros throughout the day
2:46
the best thing for me about competing is
2:49
the amazing feeling it gives me but then
2:51
i also love performing in front of a
2:53
crowd in front of the fans and
2:55
i'm really buzzing off their energy and
2:58
it's hard to describe it it's something
3:00
amazing when you're on the floor you're
3:03
you're busting your gut you're working
3:04
as hard as you possibly can
3:06
and you're severely in that pain cave
3:09
you can see in the crowd everyone's
3:11
cheering for everyone's chain for your
3:12
name everyone wants you to do as well as
3:15
that is such an amazing feeling
3:17
atmosphere to be involved in
3:18
and it's something that's very hard to
3:20
replicate having to pull out during the
3:22
2021 season was extremely tough call
3:25
mentally and physically but injuries
3:28
you've got to be willing to take that on
3:29
the chin it was a hip injury that i
3:32
sustained probably a couple of weeks
3:34
before the quarterfinals
3:36
and i was trying to get my my body ready
3:37
i was seeing the physio every single day
3:39
and it was a slight tear my tfl which
3:43
was then given me a lot of it band
3:46
i just couldn't squat any sort of decent
3:48
weight past 60 kilos so i needed good
3:50
workouts in the quarter finals to come
3:52
up that weren't very squat dominant
3:54
and uh there was workouts with a four
3:56
match front squat there was 180 pistols
3:59
so i tried to do the format's front
4:01
squat just to see if i could push
4:04
and i couldn't even get past 100 110
4:07
i'd normally be hitting around 170 for
4:09
that sort of ford mac so
4:11
i knew straight away i wasn't in good
4:12
enough shape to to complete these
4:15
yeah it was a very tough call uh it was
4:19
and for those three or four days i was
4:22
on the sofa eating chocolate and sweets
4:24
processing that i'm not going to be
4:25
competing this season and i think it's
4:29
very important to go through that
4:31
of letting yourself wallow and and sulk
4:34
and and just let people know that you're
4:36
not okay and you need to get through
4:39
and i gave myself a couple days just
4:41
just let it all sink in and then
4:43
after those couple days uh i felt much
4:45
better i sat down with my team i said
4:48
let's put a solid plan in place let's
4:50
readjust these goals that we've had for
4:52
we're going to focus on different
4:53
competition the end of this year which
4:54
is going to be a big competition
4:56
and then we're going to get a great plan
4:58
in place again so i'm even fit a
5:00
and a better athlete for next year and
5:02
next season it's not just
5:04
all doom and gloom if you have a setback
5:06
you've got to overcome it
5:08
set yourself different goals and go and
5:11
