This Study Shocked Me: The Type of Water You Drink Is Changing Your Gut Health
Nov 20, 2025
Did you know the water you drink every day could literally change the bacteria living inside your gut?
A new study comparing UK and US populations looked at three types of water — well water, tap water, and bottled water — and the results honestly blew my mind.
In this video, I break down what the research actually found, why different water sources may change your gut microbiome, and what this means for your digestion, immunity, inflammation, and overall gut health. If you’re trying to improve your gut, reduce bloating, support your metabolism, or just make healthier choices, this is one of the simplest (and cheapest) changes you can make.
🔬 What the Study Found
Researchers discovered big differences in gut bacteria depending on what type of water people regularly drank:
✔ Well water drinkers
– Had the highest gut microbiome diversity
– Had more beneficial microbes
– Had the lowest levels of harmful gut bacteria and pathogens
✔ Tap water drinkers
– Fell somewhere in the middle
– More microbe diversity than bottled water but less than well water
✔ Bottled water drinkers
