keep watching if you would like to learn how to crochet this beautiful gingham and daisies baby blanket today i'm going
0:05
to be using some paint box yarns simply aaron the other yarn that i recommend
0:10
which was the original um yarn i used when i made this blanket is style craft special aaron they both work really well
0:17
for this now you're going to need to pick a color that you can get two shades
0:22
of the same color so here i've got the this like the purple and the lilac color so you want to go for something that is
0:29
the same color family and two shades of this so one lighter and one darker you're then going to need the yellow for
0:36
the center of the daisies and then for the daisy petals either a cream or a white will work really well for that and
0:43
then i've got another color there's a neutral color that i'm using today originally i just used the same color as
0:49
i did for the daisy petals so you can go totally go ahead and do that but i'm just going for a slightly different look today and i'm going for this um it's
0:56
kind of like a it's called vanilla cream for the neutral color so you're going to make 24 squares in your lighter
1:06
color 16 squares in your neutral color and then you'll have nine of the daisy
1:12
squares which will be in the darker color right so let's start off with with the plain granny squares so we're going
1:18
to be using a 5 mm hook let's start off by putting a slip knot on there and
1:24
we're going to chain four 1 2 3 4 and we're going to join to
1:31
that first stitch to make a ring like so now
1:37
in the written pattern i'm starting all of the rounds with a chain three which counts as a
1:42
double crochet but with this this particular square i have found that a chainless double crochet is a gives you
1:49
a much more seamless look so i'm going to show you how to do that if you prefer you can just use a chain three instead
1:55
so i'm going to elongate the loop on my hook till it's about the height of a
2:01
double crochet and i'm going to put my finger on there and and keep that on there and hold it and then i'm just
2:06
going to use this loop to count as the yarn over and to do that you're going to twist
2:13
your hook around so that you that you then have that yarn over there and then going to go into the center of the ring
2:20
pick up a loop pull it through yarn over pull
2:25
through two and see i'm still holding on to that loop now i can let go so yarn over and
2:32
pull through the last two and there you have a chainless double crochet and when
2:37
you're making these solid granny squares you can see them i think the chain three
2:42
does kind of like stand out a little bit if you don't mind that that's fine but that's just how you can do that out so we're going to put another three double
2:49
crochet into that ring that's
2:56
one two and three so that's four double
3:01
crochet so far and we're then going to chain two this is for our first corner
3:07
space then we're going to put four double crochet into the ring
3:12
it's one
3:18
2 3 and
3:23
four chain two for the next corner and another four double crochet
3:29
into the ring one
3:36
2 oops three and
3:43
four and another chain two for the next corner and then we want another four
3:50
double crochet into that ring one
3:59
2
4:04
3 and four and then we're going to chain two for that last corner space and then
4:12
we're going to join to the top of that first double crochet now can be a bit tricky sometimes to
4:19
find the loops you need to work into with these chainless stitches there we go that's our loops
4:26
there so slip stitch into there so we're going
4:31
to do another chainless double crochet just like we did before
4:37
into that stitch yarn over pull through two yarn
4:43
over pull through two can be a bit tricky if you've not done these before but you'll soon get the hang of it so
4:49
we're going to put a double crochet into the next three
4:54
stitches that's one
5:01
two and three and then we're at our first corner space so in the corner we're going to put two double
5:10
crochet chain two and then two more double
5:19
crochet we're now going to start walking we're now going to start working across the other side now when you've
5:25
got these corner stitches here you can some it sometimes obscures this stitch here so make sure you are working into
5:31
this first stitch which is right here so we're going to put a double crochet into each stitch across to the next
5:51
corner and then in our corner space two double
5:58
crochet chain two and two double crochet
6:06
now you're just going to repeat this around so double crochet into each stitch across in the corner two double
6:12
crochet chain two two double crochet double crochet into each stitch across
6:17
and then you'll be ready for that final corner so again in that final corner i've got the two double crochet here
6:23
chain two two more double
6:29
crochet and then we're going to join with a slip stitch to the top of that chainless double
6:39
crochet like so and we're going to add one more round so we're going to do another
6:44
chainless stitch to start off
6:52
like so and then a double crochet in each stitch across to the
7:12
corner and again in the corner two double crochet
7:20
chain two two double
7:26
crochet
7:31
oops two double
7:37
crochet and again we're going to put double crochet into each stitch across make sure you don't miss that first one
7:44
and in each corner double cro two double crochet chain two two double crochet and i'm going to
7:50
finish off the round again by putting a slip stitch into that top of that chainless double
7:57
crochet like so and then fasten off i'm going to show you how to do the daisy
8:02
squares next so with your yellow yarn going to put a slip knot onto your
8:10
hook and chain six that's one 2 3
8:17
4 five six and we're going to join to that first chain to make a
8:26
ring like so and then we're going to chain one this doesn't count as a stitch and now
8:33
we're going to be working into this ring so i like to work over the tail as i go
8:38
and we're going to put 12 single crochet into the ring that's one
8:45
2 3 4
8:52
5 6
8:57
7 8
9:03
9 10 11 and 12 and then we're going to
9:11
join to that first single crochet with a slip stitch like so okay and there we have
9:19
center of our daisy so we're going to fasten off with this color i like to weave the tail in just through the back loops of a few of the stitches and then
9:26
work over that in the next
9:35
round so we're next going to go with our our petal color so either the cream or
9:40
the white and i'm going to just put my hook into one of the
9:47
stitches and bring this yarn through and chain
9:58
two so we're going to start working our petals now so we're going to put three tripouble crochet into that same stitch
10:03
so yarn over twice hook goes into the stitch pull up a loop yarn over pull
10:10
through two yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two and we're
10:15
going to do two more of
10:25
those like so and then just kind of make sure your petals are puffed out
10:32
on the right side now we're going to just elongate that loop slightly take
10:37
your hook out and you're going to look for that first stitch put your hook through both those
10:43
loops then pick up the loop again pull your yarn tight and draw it through like
10:50
so then we're going to chain
10:57
two and then we're going to do a popcorn in the next stitch so yarn over twice
11:03
into the next stitch pull up a loop yarn over pull through two yarn over pull
11:08
through two yarn over pull through two and again two more of those into that
11:14
same
11:22
stitch then once you've got three you're going to take your hook out go into that first
11:29
stitch pick up that loop again pull that loop through and chain two and you're
11:36
going to go ahead and do this into each stitch around so you should have a total of 12 petals at the end once you get
11:43
round to the end you're going to finish by putting a slip stitch into the top of that first daisy and then you can fasten off
11:52
and again i like to just weave this tail through some of these stitches so it gets worked over in the
12:00
following round okay so we're ready for round three so we're using our darker color in any chain two space just put
12:08
your hook through and then draw the new color through and we're going to chain four that's
12:13
one 2 3 and four this counts as a tripouble crochet we're now going to put
12:20
two more trebles in that same place that's
12:28
one and two chain two for the
12:34
corner and now we're going to put three trebles all in that same
12:42
place one
12:51
two and three so we're going to look for the next space and we're going to put three double crochet in
12:58
there one
13:04
two and three three double crochet in the next space
13:12
1 2 and three and the next space we're
13:18
going to we're going to put our next corner so three trebles
13:26
that's one
13:34
two and three chain two for that corner space and then three more trebles
13:47
one two and three so you can see that's part
13:56
of our square is made so you're going to repeat this around so in the next two spaces it's going to be three double
14:02
crochet in each space then you're going to work a corner which is always going to be three trebles chain two three
14:07
trebles then in the next two spaces three double crochet in each then work another corner and then the last two
14:13
spaces three double crochet in each so and at the end of the round we're just going to finish by joining with a slip
14:18
stitch to the top of that chain four and then fasten off so once you've completed all your squares and they're all ready
14:25
for joining now as long as your squares are pretty even in size you don't need to block the individual squares you can
14:30
just block the finished blanket but if you if you feel like you need to you can block the individual squares first now
14:37
the pattern shows you how to lay out your squares so you start with your neutral color then your light color and
14:43
you alternate one row of those then you start with your light color and then your dark color which is the daisy square and you alternate those you're
14:50
going to be joining all along the sides this way and then we're going to join the squares along this way so i've got
14:57
my squares here to make my small swatch so going to be starting with neutral
15:03
square and then neutral a light square and a neutral and then the next row
15:10
we'll have a light square or a dark square which is the daisy and then another light square and
15:18
then again the neutral the light and the neutral so we're going to start by
15:24
working across this way joining these squares together
15:33
so as this color is in every single row this is the color i'm going to be using
15:38
for the joining so i'm just going to put a slip knot on my hook and i'm just going to put the right sides together
15:43
for the squares that i'm joining like so so we're going to start
15:48
with this square here so i'm going to i've got a slip knot on the hook i'm going to go in with into both the corner
15:56
spaces and i'm going to put a single crochet in there
16:01
and then i'm going to be joining now you can either work into the back loops only
16:07
with your single crochets or you can work through both it's entirely up to you so
16:14
we're looking for our first stitch which is this one here so we're
16:19
going to go through those loops and then look for the first stitch on this side go through those and we're just going to
16:26
put a single crochet in there and then we're going to
16:32
continue the single
16:39
crochet all the way across joining both sides
16:50
together and then when we get to this square i'm going to work through the corner spaces with the single crochet
16:56
and then we're going to move on to our next squares so again through the corners of both the
17:01
squares single crochet look for that first stitch and then the first stitch on the other
17:09
square we're just single crocheting all the way across and i'm just coming up to the edge of the square and again going
17:16
through that corner chain space and then we're going to move on to the next
17:21
squares again through that chain space crochet those both together and then starting in that first
17:30
stitch and i'm going to continue single crocheting them both together all the way across once you get to the end of
17:37
the row you're going to finish with single crochet in that last space and then fasten off and this is what it
17:43
looks like with the join across here so we're now going to join the next row so we'll just put these squares
17:52
together like so pop a slip knot on my
17:59
hook and then go in with a single crochet through both those
18:05
corners and i'm going to join this exactly the same as i did that one so i'll meet you back once i finished so
18:12
there we've got our joins going all the way across both sides we're then just going
18:17
to turn it around and then we're going to start working across these joins here
18:22
in exactly the same way and when you get to the corner
18:30
you're going to put your single crochet into that corner space and if you want to you can put a
18:36
chain one cuz there's a bit more of a bit more bulk here now just to get across that gap and then single crochet
18:44
in that next corner space and then continue single crocheting across so
18:49
that's that seam done as well we've just got this last one to do and you'll go ahead and do all of the rest of your
18:54
your rows on your blanket seaming the sides together so you can crochet them together if that's if that's the way you
19:00
prefer but my personal preference and the way i think that these particular squares look best is by using an
19:06
invisible join and so i would recommend joining them using the mattress stitch so we will join them in the same order
19:13
as we did when we crochet them together we're going to work in rows along one side and then in rows along the other
19:19
side so you're going to start by getting yourself a piece of yarn that is three times the
19:25
length that you're going to be working
19:32
across and then you want to thread that onto your darning needle so you're going to
19:38
go for your first two squares you're going to have them wrong sides
19:44
together in this first square you're going to put your needle through the back loop in the
19:51
corner chain chain stitch and then coming up through the other corner chain
19:57
stitch that's how you will start off can then leave an end then you'll
20:03
sew that in later and then if you want to you can just secure that by going through once more
20:12
like so and then you're going to do exactly the same in the corner of the
20:17
other square so through the outside loops like
20:31
so then you're going to look you're going to go in where you
20:37
came out of last time and then out into the next
20:43
stitch and then on the other square you're going to go in where you came out
20:48
last time and then across to the next stitch always going through those back
20:56
loops and just going to keep repeating
21:07
this you want to go for a few
21:13
stitches and then we'll draw it together every now and
21:26
then once you've worked through a few stitches you just want to hold your squares and then gently pull
21:35
so that closes everything up you don't want to pull too hard you should feel
21:40
once you get to the end and you there's more tension there so then you stop pulling once you feel that
21:46
tension and you as you can see the way that closes the squares up you can't see
21:52
any stitches at all you could even do this with a completely different color and you probably wouldn't notice it
21:58
so i'm going to continue working all the way
22:05
across and every few stitches just draw the two sides together and once you get
22:11
to the corner you're going to just carry on doing exactly the same so you're going
22:18
to go through those back loops into that first corner
22:26
stitch and then from that first corner stitch to that
22:34
second and the same on the other side let's just draw those
22:48
together and then we're going to move on to the next squares and we're going to just do that ex in exactly the same way
22:56
so into the back loop of the first corner stitch and out on the second corner
23:05
stitch and exactly the same in this
23:18
corner so you're going to keep working all the way across until you get to the
23:24
end of that row and then you'll start on the next row so once you get to the end
23:29
you can just go ahead and sew that end in i'm going to show you now how to join this way and show you what we do when we
23:36
get to this corner here so you go ahead and join your square in exactly the same
23:41
way and i'll meet you back once we get to this corner point so once you get to the corner what you're going to see is
23:47
where you've joined these corners here those back loops have been kind of pulled close so you can't really see
23:53
those so the best way that i find to join just the corner is to go around
23:59
this time in the front loops so this was where our yarn's come out from this
24:05
purple square so i'm going to go through the front loop of the corner stitch on
24:11
this square and then the front loop of the other corner stitch and pull that
24:19
through and i'm going to do the same on the next stitch through those front loops i'm just going
24:26
to work around until i get back so i've gone through all of those so front loop
24:32
and the front loop and then finally on this purple one
24:39
here and here and then when you just give that a
24:46
bit of tug it closes up those corners and you get perfect corners
24:53
now i do find that i then want to go through again to get because we're going
24:59
to be joining these two so i just go through these ones
25:05
again and then i'm ready to carry on joining so we're going to go
25:12
through that back loop there up until that next
25:19
stitch and then the same through that back loop and out through the next back
25:26
loop and then you're just going to continue all the way along so i really
25:31
do think this gives you a really nice neat join once you've joined all your squares
25:37
it should look something like this and now we're ready to add on our
25:42
border so i'm going to be using the darker color for the border you're going to have a lot more of this left this
25:47
color left over so it's you know you're going to have enough yarn for the border if you go with that color but you could
25:53
use any of the other colors really it's really up to you so i'm going to put a slip knot on my
26:00
hook um you can start in any corner of your blanket so in this corner
26:05
here we're going to do a single
26:12
crochet and then chain two and another single crochet and
26:18
you're going to do that into all of the corners all of the ones will be the same now we're going to start working
26:24
along the side of this first square so you're going to skip this first stitch this one here chain one and then we're
26:32
going to put single crochet into that next stitch chain
26:38
one skip a stitch single crochet into the following stitch chain one skip a stitch single
26:48
crochet into that next stitch chain one skip a stitch and we're going to keep doing this all the way
26:53
across chain one and in this chain space here from the corner going to put single
26:59
crochet chain one and then in the corner of the next square single crochet chain
27:06
one and then we're going to do the same across each square so we're going to skip this first
27:13
stitch single crochet chain one skip
27:19
one single crochet chain one skip one and we're going to work this all the way
27:26
across and just each time you get to the corners of the granny squares just do the same as you did here and once you
27:31
get to this corner we're going to be skipping that next stitch and in the corner space single crochet chain
27:38
two single crochet and you're just going to repeat across the last three sides
27:44
exactly what you've done along this side and i'll meet you back when we're at the end of the round get back to the
27:50
beginning we're just going to slip stitch into that first single crochet now when i'm doing a line stitch border i like to flip the crochet over and and
27:59
switch the side that i'm working on alternately um this keeps the corners really nice and straight but if you really don't want to do that you don't
28:06
have to but i am going to do that so i'm just going to turn over to the other side going to chain
28:13
one and then i'm going to slip stitch into this chain space here
28:20
like so chain one and single crochet into
28:26
that same space then chain one and now we're looking for the chain one spaces from
28:31
the previous round so we're going to put a single crochet chain one into each chain one
28:39
space from the previous round
28:45
so single crochet chain one single crochet chain one
28:55
oops single crochet chain one and just keep going until you get to the corner so i'm just coming up to the corner here
29:01
and just like we did in the last round we're going to put single crochet chain two and a single crochet and then we'll
29:08
start with a chain one and then we'll look for that next space put a single crochet in there chain one single
29:15
crochet in the next space chain one and we're just going to repeat that all the way around and once you get round to the
29:22
corner going to put a single crochet chain two and a single crochet in that
29:28
last chain space and then join to that first
29:33
stitch like so and then we're going chain one and turn
29:39
so now we're working from the right side again so we'll just slip stitch into that corner
29:47
space chain one and then we'll have a single crochet chain two and a single
29:53
crochet in that corner chain one and then again we're looking for the chain spaces from the
29:59
previous round so single crochet chain one into each
30:04
space all the way around and in each corner single crochet chain two single
30:09
crochet so we're just going to end again with a slip stitch into that first single crochet and then you can fasten
30:16
off and weave in your ends now if you like you can make this border wider you can add you can keep adding as many
30:22
rounds as you want to just make sure you end on a right side round
30:27
now your blanket will benefit greatly from blocking if you're using acrylic yarn steam works really well on acrylic
30:33
or you can wet block it and if you enjoyed this tutorial then be sure to check out my blanket playlist right here
30:39
on youtube bye-bye now
