Bob Fratta, a former Houston police officer, was convicted of orchestrating the murder of his estranged wife, Farah Fratta, in 1994. Fratta hired two men, Joseph Prystash and Howard Guidry, to carry out the killing during a contentious divorce and custody battle. The case became highly publicized due to Fratta's position as a police officer and the cold-blooded nature of the crime. He was initially sentenced to death in 1996, but his conviction was overturned on appeal in 2007 due to improper jury instructions. However, Fratta was retried, convicted again, and resentenced to death in 2009. He remained on death row in Texas, where his appeals were exhausted, and he was executed on January 10, 2023.
