'Michael' Film Becomes The Highest-Grossing Biopic Ever

‘Michael’ has become the highest-grossing biopic ever, earning $977 million worldwide just two months after its theatrical release. It surpassed Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning film ‘Oppenheimer,’ which grossed $975 million globally three years ago. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, ‘Michael,’ which stars Jaafar Jackson as his famous uncle Michael Jackson, opened with a record-breaking $217 million worldwide in April. The biopic has continued its strong run, topping $370 million domestically and becoming Lionsgate’s third-highest domestic grosser ever. The blockbuster has also boosted Jackson’s music catalog, with streaming numbers surging and ‘Thriller’ climbing to No. 7 on the Billboard 200. The film, which follows Jackson’s rise to fame with the Jackson 5, through to his 1988 Bad tour, was a success despite criticism over its omission of child abuse allegations against the King of Pop.
