Ridley Scott’s ‘Legend’ placed Cruise in an enchanted forest filled with elaborate sets, alongside Tim Curry as an unforgettable Lord of Darkness. Audiences, however, largely stayed away. The 1985 fantasy earned only about $23.5 million worldwide against a reported production budget of around $25 million. While the movie later developed a devoted cult following, that resurgence came far too late to help its theatrical performance. ‘Rock of Ages’ gave Cruise the chance to unleash his inner rock star as Stacee Jaxx. He got plenty of attention for his wild performance, but the 2012 musical struggled commercially. With a $75 million budget, the movie earned just $59.4 million worldwide, including $38.5 million domestically. It opened to a disappointing $14.4 million from 3,470 theaters.
