Feb 19, 2025
Welcome back to our study of the book of Hebrews, today our focus will be on Hebrews 7:11-28. Last week, we talked about the identity of Melchizedek as we looked at verses 1 through 10. We established that he was the only one ever allowed to assume both the role of a priest and a king. We also talked about the meaning of his name; Melchizedek meant King of righteousness but He was also king of Peace. Righteousness and Peace go hand in hand, without them we have no relationship with God. We also mentioned the endless life of Melchizedek, His superiority over Aaron and the legitimacy of His priesthood. In the following presentation, we will see the connection between Jesus and Melchizedek and the implications thereafter

hello good morning and uh welcome back to our study of the book of uh hebrews
0:05
today we're gonna look at look at chapter 7 verses 11 through 28. last
0:11
week we looked at verses 1 through 10. in those verses we talked about the identity of a melchizedek now
0:18
melchizedek appears the first time in the book of genesis in genesis 14 and
0:23
he meets abraham so we talked about his name and what his name meant we also
0:28
talked about why he was so significant now melchizedek he was the only one as we saw to be
0:35
allowed to be to assume both the the role of a king and a priest now we talked about how that exceeded already
0:42
on the levites because the leavers were not appointed as kings they were only appointed as high priests and priests
0:48
now melchizedek is both called the priest of god the most high and he's also called king of salem and we also
0:55
talked about the meaning of melchizedek now melchizedek means king of righteousness we also mean king of peace
1:02
and we looked at those two elements how they are so important into our relationship with god because without
1:07
righteousness we don't have peace with god so melchizedek is that bridge and we
1:12
also talked about his superiority to aaron's uh priesthood because abraham
1:17
paid him a tithe okay everyone pays a tied to melchizedek and melchizedek as
1:23
we saw was not after the order of levi the levite so
1:28
him accepting a tithe from abraham shows that he is superior to abraham and
1:33
abraham is the patriarch so in that way he exceeds the levite because the levites and we talked about how
1:42
jewish people believe in racial uh solidarity in the sense that they paid their tithe to melchizedek himself
1:49
through abraham even though they were not born yet they were part of the 12 tribes so we talked about that and then
1:54
now we're going to go into more details because melchizedek priestly order
2:00
is so important to understand because jesus is going to be likened to melchizedek and jesus is a priest as a
2:07
scripture says after the order of melchizedek so that's so important we also talked about how melchizedek's uh
2:13
when we look at the scripture the scripture and the records there's no record about his genealogy and the
2:20
scripture is silent about it and that's for purpose because the scripture wanted to show his uh
2:26
basically they wanted to they wanted melchizedek to resemble jesus because his priestly order is
2:32
endless because he has an endless life so now today we're going to look at verses 11 through 28
2:37
and we're going to see how jesus is likened to melchizedek and how that's important for us today and for
2:44
the people back then so what i'm going to do is i'm going to read verses 11 through 28 and then we're
2:49
gonna try to break this down okay so let's get to it now
2:54
so hebrews chapter 11 verses 11 through 28 so let's do that
3:02
the scripture says for this melchizedek king of salem
3:07
actually this is you know verses one i'm gonna start from verses 11 verse 11.
3:13
now if perfection has been attainable through the levitical priesthood
3:18
for under it the people received the law what further need would there have been
3:24
for another priest to arise after the order of melchizedek
3:29
rather than one named after the order of aaron from when there is a change in the priesthood
3:34
there is necessarily a change in the law as well for the one of whom these things are
3:39
spoken belonged to another tribe from which no one has ever served at the
3:46
altar for it is evident that our lord was descended from judah
3:51
and in connection with that tribe moses said nothing about priests
3:57
this becomes more even evident when another priest arises in the likeness of melchizedek who has become a priest not
4:05
on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent but by the power of an indestructible life for it
4:13
is witnessed of him you are a priest forever after the order of melchizedek for on
4:20
the one hand a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness
4:25
for the law made nothing perfect but on the other hand a better hope is introduced through which we draw near
4:31
the god and he was not without an oath for those who formerly became priests
4:36
were made such with without an oath but this one was made a priest with an oath
4:42
but the one who said to him the lord has sworn and will not change his mind you are a priest forever
4:49
this makes jesus the guarantor of a better covenant the former priest where many in number
4:55
because they were prevented by death from continuing in office but he holds his priesthood permanently
5:02
because he continues forever consequently he is able to save to the utmost to the outermost those who draw
5:09
near god through him since he always leaves to make intercession for them
5:14
for he was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest holy innocent
5:19
unstained separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens
5:24
he has no need like those high priests to offer sacrifices daily first for his
5:30
own sins and then for those of the people since he did this once and for all when he offered up himself
5:36
for the law appoints men in their weakness as high priest by the word of the oath which came later later than the
5:43
law appointed his son who has been made perfect forever this is the word of god
5:50
and let's now i'm trying to understand and unpack all these words so in verse 11
5:57
we read the following now if perfection had been attainable through the levitical priesthood for under it the
6:03
people received the law what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the
6:09
order of melchizedek rather than one named after the order of heaven now we just learned that melchizedek's
6:15
priestly order is greater than that of aaron like we learned that like in from verses 1 to 10 last week if you were
6:22
here with me now what the writer is trying to do now he's trying to build another case
6:27
now that he has set the ground argument he's already given his foundational argument which is melchizedek's order is
6:34
greater and higher and more superior superior to that of aaron so now he's going to establish something
6:41
else but before we do that we need to understand what the word perfection means in this sentence in this verse
6:47
here now perfection means complete fulfilled okay that's the meaning of it
6:52
in this verse because the levites they could not fulfill the work of god to the his full extent their ministry was uh a
7:00
shadow of things to come we talked about it in earlier chapters and we say that under the levites the
7:06
people's scenes were not uh washed away they were only covered and people were only ceremonially clean we talked about
7:12
how the priestly order after aaron was limited it was weak in that sense because
7:18
people's sins could not be made uh could not be washed away they were only covered so that people could be
7:24
ceremonially claimed so he was he dealt with the external he didn't deal with the actual sins being removed from the
7:31
people this is why he says now if perfection has been attainable to the levitical priesthood that is why the
7:37
perfection that carries that meaning completeness fulfilled complete and done that's what it means
7:44
now we thought we already talked about that so and we talked about the old and the weakness of the old systems and
7:50
under the levites now what i want to do now is i want to go to jeremiah 31 verse 31 to 34 because this verse verse 11
7:58
finds his root in that verse in in that passage so let's go to jeremiah 31 31-34 now scripture says here
8:07
behold the days are coming declares the lord when i will make a new covenant with the house of israel and the house
8:14
of judah not like the covenant that i made with their fathers on the day when i took them by the hand
8:20
to bring them out of the land of egypt my covenant that they broke though i was their husband declares the lord for this
8:27
is the covenant that i will make with the hearts of israel after those days declares the lord
8:32
i will put my law within them and i will write it on their heart and i will be their god and they shall be my people
8:39
and no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each other each and eve and each his brother
8:45
saying lord the lord for they shall all know me from the least of them to the greatest declares the lord for i will
8:52
forgive their iniquity and i'll remember their sin no more so you see god says here
8:57
there will come a day where he will make a new covenant so keep that in the back of your head as we um look at this verse
9:05
okay so basically uh what we learned from jeremiah is that uh god declared that he was
9:11
going to make a new covenant with the house of israel and judah because of the weakness of the old covenant let me
9:19
repeat that again god made a promise that he was going to make a new covenant with the house of
9:25
israel and judah because of the weakness of the old covenant and so we are going to look
9:31
uh into depth into this portion later on in later chapters but right now all we need to know is we
9:36
just needed to know why god declared that he was going to uh um change um um
9:42
the covenant okay that's all we needed to know that another priest would arise after the
9:48
order of melchizedek so he's saying here that um if you go back to verse 11
9:53
what further knee would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of melchizedek rather than one
9:58
name named after the order of aaron we just read the reason why because god said that he was going to make a new
10:05
covenant with the house of israel in the house of judah so now we need to know the implications
10:10
of these verses okay the new priest under the order of melchizedek was an everlasting one okay one whose life was
10:17
endless therefore he has not only surpassed aaron but he has replaced him
10:24
pay attention to that he not only has surpassed aaron but he has replaced him because his life is what and less
10:31
his life is endless meaning there's no need for aaron and his um the levitical priesthood anymore
10:39
consequently now that he's priest namely jesus has come there is no longer a need for the
10:45
levites and their priestly order because they are done with okay now for me and for you it may not mean much because we
10:53
have never seen a high priest we've never had to deal with going to the temple and and and taking our blame or our goals
11:00
and and then going through the rituals we didn't we've never had to do that so for us it may not mean that what you
11:05
mean okay well you hear this and you go yeah so what now if you are a levite okay and your whole
11:12
life and your whole life was dedicated to serving at the temple as a priest hearing those words it's like
11:19
uh life-changing words because at that moment the levites are no longer needed
11:25
meaning their ministry has come to an end so basically listening to this as a levite and as a priest is like so what
11:32
am i gonna do with my life because that's all i existed for because if you look at the old covenant they were
11:38
supposed to be the priest but now with this new covenant their job is no longer
11:43
valid or available and for the jewish people the people who delay people that hear this is like wow
11:50
there is a change there is a change there is something new something new has come this is why the scripture said now if
11:56
perfection has been attainable through the levitical priesthood and perfection is basic basically unfulfilled complete
12:03
if this the vertical priesthood function was sufficient god would never had said that he would
12:09
have he would establish a new covenant he would bring another priest because he
12:14
was showing by that that the levites were insufficient and their work was not complete it was just a shadow of things
12:21
to come and we talked about how even though jesus hadn't come just yet god still
12:27
made provisions for the people so that they could go into the temple and they could still have a way to have an
12:32
ongoing relationship with him so the levitt was supposed to be the precursor they were supposed to point us to jesus
12:39
so now that jesus had come their job was now over
12:44
because jesus has an endless life now we're going to talk more about this in verses to come
12:49
listen to verses 12 to 14 from when there is a change in the priesthood there is necessarily a change
12:55
in the law as well for the one of whom these things are spoken belong to another tribe from
13:01
which no one has ever served at the altar for it is evident that our lord was
13:07
descended from judah and in connection with that tribe moses said nothing about priests
13:13
so what is he saying here the author is saying listen the new priest the one that was established after the
13:20
order of melchizedek melchizedek he could not be priest under the law of moses because he was not from the tribe
13:26
of levi so this is an indication that the law itself had to change in order for the
13:32
priest to be legitimate so basically the author is saying listen under the law
13:39
no one other than any man on the of the tribe of levi could be priest so if this
13:45
priest now is established as a priest in order of mercy in the order of medicine this is
13:50
the means this means that the law itself has changed so this is the point that
13:56
the writer is trying to make here he's saying that the change in the priesthood is the byproduct of the change in the
14:02
law so the change in the priesthood is pretty pretty much a consequence of a change in the law so jesus is of the
14:09
tribe of judah touching is his humanity and under the law of moses only levites
14:15
were allowed to be priests so since jesus has now been established as a priest after the order of melchizedek by
14:22
god's own uh oath in psalm 110 verse 4 we're going to see that in a minute god himself is saying to the people and
14:28
to all of us there is a change in the law so the change in the priesthood is a
14:34
byproduct of a change in the law so the law itself had to change in order for jesus to be priest
14:40
so this is what the scripture is saying to us now if you go to verses 15 to 19
14:46
we'll read the following this becomes more evident when another priest arrives in the likeness of
14:51
melchizedek who has become a priest not only not on the basis of legal illegal requirement concerning
14:58
bodily descent but by the power of an indestructible life for it is witness of him you are a
15:05
priest forever after the order of melchizedek for on the one hand a former command when he
15:10
set aside because of his weakness and uselessness for the lord made nothing perfect but on the other hand a better
15:17
hope is introduced through which we draw near the god so the writer is saying that this change
15:22
in the law and the priesthood has become even more plain and certain because the new priest that has come and has been
15:29
appointed namely jesus has become a priest because of his endless life
15:36
he cannot die anymore okay an endless life means what an
15:42
endless ministry and an endless ministry means that the law has certainly changed
15:47
and consequently the levites priesthood has come to an end and god himself
15:52
approves of this by his word in psalm 10 verse 4. listen to what he says in psalm 10 verse 4
15:58
the lord has sworn and will not change his mind
16:03
you are a priest forever after the order of melchizedek
16:10
you see what god himself is saying here so the writer again gives his listeners
16:15
and us ultimately the reasons why he had to be this way okay he reiterates his point the law and
16:21
his regulations and practices made nothing perfect because under the law
16:27
sins could not be atoned for and the holy of holies was not accessible and we also talked about if you go to romans
16:33
chapter 7 and romans 8 we see that the law made nothing perfect because sin because of
16:39
our sinful nature the law even made it even worse for us because by the law now sin took advantage of the law to
16:46
work in us all types of um craziness because of that the law the
16:52
law was imperfect in the sense that even though the law is perfect because this is the spiritual law of god this is the
16:57
law is perfect but the law was imperfect in the sense of his function he could not save us all he did was just allow sin to
17:05
use the law to kill us so in that way the law did not help
17:11
the law could not help us okay and under the law the whole system was powerless because
17:17
the under the old system as we talked about sins could not be atoned for sins could not be washed away and the holy of
17:23
holies was not accessible the the high priest only went into the holy of holies once a year
17:31
okay so we talked about how the priests were so weak because some of them were callous they could not serve properly
17:38
so the priest under the old system and they ministered in an earthly tabernacle okay it was earthly what
17:44
jesus has passed through the heavens and he's seated at the right hand of god then he adds to his argument that is the
17:51
author the benefit of the new hope that has been brought to everybody to us to the readers and to us
17:58
today this hope that we have allows us to draw near to god we are allowed into the
18:03
inner sanctuary in the holy of holies okay at the throne of grace that's where god tells us to come come to the throne
18:09
of grace with confidence to receive what mercy and grace to help in times of need because if you go to
18:15
matthew 27 verse 45 to 54 we will see how that happened let's go there
18:21
listen to the scripture now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the 9th
18:27
hour and about the 9th hour jesus cried out with a loud voice saying
18:32
eli eli lama sabachthani that is my god my god why have you forsaken me
18:39
and some of the bystanders hearing it said this man is calling elijah and one of them at once ran and took a
18:45
sponge filled with saw wine and put it on the reed and gave it to him to drink
18:51
but the other said wait let us see where elijah whether elijah calm will come to save him and jesus cried out again with
18:58
a loud voice and yielded up his spirit and behold the curtain of the temple was torn in
19:05
two from top to bottom and the earth shook and the rocks were split and the tombs
19:11
were all where the tombs also were opened and many bodies of the saint who had
19:16
fallen asleep were raised and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to
19:23
many when the centurion and those who were with him keeping watch over jesus saw the earthquake and what took place they
19:30
were all filled with all and said truly this was the son of god
19:35
now you see what happened when jesus gave up the spirit the scripture says that the the temple the cursing of the
19:42
temple was thrown into from top to bottom this is
19:47
how the holy spirit was indicating that the holy of holies was open now for everyone to come everyone will put their
19:53
trust in jesus okay since her family had finally been atoned for and the wrath of god had been
20:00
satisfied we talked about jesus being the propitiation and the expiation for our sins the
20:06
propitiation is in the sense that he satisfies the wrath of god and the expiation because by his blood
20:14
sin is removed from us the stain of sin is removed the guilt of sin is removed
20:20
now is removed is not just covered so that we can be ceremonially claimed but is removed completely
20:26
so as a result those who put their trust in jesus this new high priest whose resurrection proved that he was the son
20:33
of god could draw near the god and because he leaves he leaves to intercede
20:38
for us and he doesn't uh in the sense that he's he's alive he's not going to die like
20:44
the other priest see the other peace they had their life came to an end and they had to be succeeded okay jesus
20:51
is alive he leaves today to enter seed for us so we can call to the throne of
20:56
grace because he's always available he is a perfect high priest and we're gonna see that in verses to come
21:03
just pay attention to what the scripture is saying here in verses 20 to 25 listen to what the author is saying he's
21:09
given more ammunition here to his argument he says and it's not it was not without an oath
21:14
for those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath but this one was made a priest with an oath but
21:21
the one who said to him the lord has sworn and will not change his mind you are a priest forever
21:27
this makes jesus the guarantor of a better covenant the former priests were many in number
21:33
because they were prevented by death from continuing in office but he holds his priesthood permanently
21:39
because he continues forever consequently is able to save to the uttermost
21:45
those who draw near the god through him since he always leaves to make intercession for them see at this point
21:52
the writer could have concluded his argument since all the evidences presented were like sufficient but he
21:57
doesn't do that he continues he doesn't stop there because the holy spirit once gives us assurance and his reader's
22:03
assurance through the argument so as a result and the writer shows that god declared
22:10
jesus a high priest after the order of melchizedek with an oath okay and we saw
22:15
in earlier chapters that god god's word alone is sufficient god says this and he goes
22:21
but for god to really drive his point he names jesus
22:26
priest forever with an oath which means an end of all debates he's saying he's
22:31
settled once and for all and that by god himself so the former priest they were appointed
22:38
without an oath when when aaron was appointed there was no off guard didn't say i have sworn and i will not change
22:43
my mind god does not change his mind but god is making sure we understand he's saying he's i've sworn and i will not change my
22:50
mind you are a priest forever after the order of melchizedek that was not said of aaron's and his and the levite that
22:57
was not said of them god just appointed them for the mean time until the time of reformation came okay
23:03
so jesus is definitely superior and has certainly replaced the levites as a
23:08
guarantor of a better covenant see the other priests were weakened by their sin they're weakened by death and they could
23:16
not continue in their office because they had they died okay but jesus tasted
23:21
death once and for all to atone for our sins and now he ministers forever
23:27
therefore he's the only one that can restore our fellowship with god and ensures that we have an ongoing
23:33
relationship with god because he leaves to entertain for us if you want to understand more of this
23:39
let's go to first john 1 verse 5 to 10 and see what scripture says there listen to the scripture
23:45
this is the message we've heard from him and proclaimed to you that god is light and in him there is no
23:50
darkness at all if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do
23:56
not practice the truth but if we walk in a light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the
24:02
blood of jesus his son cleanses us from all sin if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not
24:09
in us if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins that to cleanse us from all
24:15
unrighteousness we if we say we have no sin we make him a liar and his word is not
24:22
in us see this is what jesus does for us the scripture says but if we walk in the light that says in the light we have
24:28
fellowship with one another and the blood of jesus his son cleanses us from all sin
24:34
you see we have an ongoing fellowship with god not because of the high priest on the
24:39
levi but because of jesus blood because of what he did for us so this is why we can approach the throne of grace because
24:47
when we confess our sins god literally removes it so that we can have fellowship we talked about without
24:53
righteousness we don't have access to god so we we stand before god not on the
24:58
basis of our righteousness but on the basis of jesus righteousness we which is imputed to us so we have
25:05
received his righteousness and as a result we can stand in the presence of god because his blood cleanses us from
25:11
all unrighteousness so now we are declared righteous before god that's what his blood does so i have like a
25:18
passage here that i wanted to read for you in this is in zechariah chapter three listen to what the scripture says here
25:25
i'm just gonna read it and maybe give you a couple of um make a couple of comments
25:30
then he showed me joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the lord and satan standing at his right hand to
25:38
accuse him and the lord said to satan the lord rebuked you o satan the lord has who has
25:44
chosen jerusalem rebuke you is not this a brand plucked from the fire
25:49
now joshua was standing before the angel clothed with filthy garments and the angel said those who are standing before
25:56
him remove the filthy garments from him and to him he said behold i have taken
26:03
your iniquity away from you and i will clothe you with pure investment and i
26:09
said let them put a clean turban on his head so they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garment and
26:15
the angel of the lord was standing by and the angel of the lord solemnly
26:21
assured joshua and the angel of the lord solemnly assured joshua thus says the lord of
26:28
hosts if you walk in my waist and keep my charge then you shall rule my house and have charge of my court and i'll
26:34
give you the right of access among those who are standing here hear now o joshua high priest
26:40
you and your friends will sit before you for they are men who are assigned behold i will bring my servant the branch for
26:47
behold on the stone that i have set before joshua on a single stone with seven eyes i will engrave its
26:53
inscription declares the lord of hosts and now remove the iniquity of this land in a single day
27:00
in that day declare the lord of hosts every one of you will invite his neighbor to come under his vine and
27:07
under his fig tree so this scripture has basically given us a picture of what happens in the
27:12
heavenly friends joshua was clothed with filthy garments and the angel of the lord jesus comes and says i've removed
27:20
those filthy garments that i put on him pure vestment and then they also put a clean turban on his head so god not only
27:27
removes our sin but he also gives us a clear conscience okay so
27:32
joshua was standing there with filthy government he was guilty and satan was standing right there to
27:38
accuse him but what does god do god himself removes the sin now when god removes forgive
27:44
sins and removes the sin god is the righteous god so he has to punish sins so it's not like god just forgives and
27:50
he's like it's over with no there is justice because god put those sins on jesus and jesus when he died on the
27:56
cross he took the penalty so it's not like god just forgives and he forgets now those sins are put on jesus somebody
28:03
has to pay for it somebody has to pay for the sins and that high priest
28:08
after the order of melchizedek he paid for those for one single sacrifice he made us
28:14
perfect forever one single sacrifice satisfied the wrath of god and his resurrection proved that
28:20
he god was pleased with him so it wasn't like god just forgives and forget now god in order for god to forgive somebody
28:27
else has to pay the price and that's that somebody was jesus on the cross
28:32
and if you go to verses 26 to 28 listen for it was indeed fitting
28:38
that we should have such a high priest a holy innocent unstained separated from
28:44
sinners and exalted above the heavens he has no need like those high priests to offer sacrifices daily
28:51
first for his own sins and for those of the people since he did it once for all
28:56
when he offered up himself for the law appoints man in their weakness as high priest but the word of
29:02
the oath which came later than the law appoints a son who has been made perfect
29:07
forever did you hear that now the writers now are saying that everything that happened had to be this
29:14
way the high priesthood of jesus after the order of melchizedek was essential
29:19
necessary for our salvation it was necessary it had to be this way it wasn't optional it had to be this way it
29:27
was necessary for mankind to have a higher peace like jesus or we could not be saved and the writer gives the reason
29:33
why he's the perfect high priest he is holy because he's the son of god innocent
29:38
unstained therefore he can appear before god okay he's separated from sinners
29:44
he's separated he doesn't he's not isolated he's not isolated from sinners but he's just separated set apart that's what
29:50
that means there he's exalted above above the heavens because he has passed
29:55
through the heavens not on earthly tabernacle and we saw this in in the earlier chapters that jesus
30:01
unlike the high priest and the delivered he didn't have to offer sacrifices for his sins because he is without sin okay
30:08
and he entered the inner sanctuary with his own blood and the inner sanctuary that he entered was not an earthly one
30:14
it was the heavenly one the heavenly sanctuary is right there at the throne of grace and as a result he has opened
30:21
the way for mankind by his blood so when the veil was turned from top to bottom
30:26
the holy spirit was showing then that now mankind could approach god's actual throne before he was just a replica on
30:34
earth now we actually have access into the throne of grace the holy of holies we have access in that place so under
30:41
the law the priests were appointed by god and they were weak because of their sinful nature they only served as a
30:47
shadow of things to come okay but because under them the work of god was not complete this is why because under
30:53
them the word the work of god was not complete it was only uh fracked it was it was fragmented
31:01
it was just they were just a picture of things to come they were supposed to serve as listen prepare
31:06
yourself because i'm bringing the messiah i'm bringing the high priest i'm bringing my son i'm bringing the lamb of god so they were supposed to be a
31:12
picture of that so god declared on earth that he was going to establish another priest his
31:18
own son after the order of melchizedek a priest whose ministry is endless because of his indestructible life he cannot die
31:25
touching his um touching his uh his deity okay he died once and he was
31:32
raised from the dead because he had to be that way he had to be that way god had to make provision and god had to
31:39
make provision through a man and that man he became man he took upon the fleshly nature he took upon that human
31:45
nature so that he could be the perfect atonement because somebody has to die someone has to die and that someone has
31:51
to be able to absorb the wrath of god it takes an infinite being to absorb an infinite wrath and jesus sacrifice had
31:59
that value it was infinitely valuable so therefore he's the only one that can atone for the sins
32:05
of the world this is why this is so important because nobody else can do that but jesus
32:10
because god himself had to pay the price through his son and it was an agreement for all eternity
32:17
that god the son had to pay the price and then god the holy spirit is the one that changes our heart and god god the
32:22
father he's the one that chooses us so they they the three they are in agreement
32:28
okay they are in agreement so for all eternity it had to be this way
32:33
so we have there's no other way to be saved but the blood of jesus you know
32:39
today i feel like i've struggled a lot to to kind of like explain myself and you'll probably see that but i hope
32:45
you get the point because what we have in jesus is uh
32:51
such a high priest that we there's no other like him that we can't we don't have any there's no other way
32:57
and for me i've been struggling to to wrap my head around it like i want to see i don't want to see like a vivid picture
33:03
but i want that to become part of my dna where i understand that listen
33:08
i want to go to this to this high priest
33:13
because he not only does he understand the human experience but he's compassionate because he is a sinless uh
33:20
he's sinless separated from sinners set apart innocent unstained
33:26
so he's not affected by sin in that way but he's affected because he truly understands my condition
33:33
so when i go to him and i cast my burdens upon him he understands he doesn't tell me get away i don't have
33:38
time for this he listens but i have to come with humility
33:43
you know there's no cavalier attitude when you come to the throne of grace you have to come home humbly because jesus
33:50
himself says unless uh you you come into the to the kingdom of god crawling like a child
33:57
you can't come i didn't quote the verse correctly but you you get my point blessed are those uh the meek
34:04
okay blessed are those with thirst and hunger after righteousness blessed are the poor in spirit
34:10
poverty and spirit is a prerequisite if you don't understand that you are bankrupt that you need him desperately
34:16
then the gospel doesn't sound like good news but when you truly
34:21
come and understand who you are before god how wretched you are how you are
34:27
completely broken without hope without help that's when you you you bow and say lord please have
34:33
mercy on us that's the point is understand that this high priest understands our condition he
34:40
knows how depraved we are because we come we come out of our mother's womb shaking our face at god we don't want
34:46
god in our life we don't want to retain the knowledge of god in our minds even when we are saved through our sanctification there is
34:52
still a process in which we still struggle with the old nature even though god has crucified our old
34:58
nature there's this residue of it left where we continue to struggle until the day jesus comes back and completely we
35:04
are clothed with the perfect body okay created holy
35:09
to worship god right now we are still struggling but we are looking forward to the city of god
35:15
we are looking forward to that day where we won't have this anymore and all this has been possible because of the high priest after the order of melchizedek
35:22
jesus who leaves to end the seed for us so today if you are struggling i said go
35:28
to him i am struggling i'm going to him i've been going to him you know and now don't give up continue
35:34
to go until you hear from him because he you know he sometimes he allows us to be stretched
35:40
scripture says consider pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds for the testing of
35:46
your faith produces perseverance those people that the writer was talking to they were going through persecution and
35:51
a lot of them would be tempted to go back to the old system so he wrote that to reassure them listen he's like don't
35:58
go back to a system that cannot save you why waste your time on something that that cannot save you
36:03
so for for them he was trying to reassure them listen we have a high priest who's in the heavenly realms
36:08
who's in the place of the throne of grace sitting at the right hand of god go there that's where you need to go
36:15
stop going to the temple because those priests their job is done they can't help you
36:20
there's nothing for them they can't do anything for you they were supposed to be a shadow of things to come now that the real thing
36:27
has come do not waste your time because those priests cannot help you anymore they served as a shadow and today we
36:34
have substituted god by a lot of things i'm not saying that there's no such
36:40
thing as going to say psychiatrists but people we've we self-medicate when we are
36:45
struggling instead of going to god we want to go through everything else for god we could talk to our friends the
36:51
doctors which is fine but then we never say lord please give me wisdom what do i need to do at
36:57
this moment but we want to substitute because it makes us feel good we want something that we can hold on to you know like we
37:03
want we want to build our own little uh strides and we want to worship those shrines now we don't do it like the
37:09
other people but we still have our own little shrines frames um whatever we use as a substitute
37:16
instead of going to god through jesus the high priest who understand the scripture says that
37:21
he is able to help us he is able to help us with anything
37:28
now i'm not saying just go to god because when you need something no we have to have an ongoing relationship with him we have to be at rest
37:35
so that way we are we are now we have a fellowship ongoing fellowship so when we sin we ask him please forgive us
37:41
today our fellowship with god is not broken i don't want anything else but to be in the presence of god
37:47
because he knows me he knows everything that i'm going through he knows my mind he knows everything that i think about so why not go to the person that knows
37:53
all things about you rather than going to a substitute that cannot even help you if you come to me and say i need i need
38:00
help with sessions i don't i'm limited in my understanding i don't know all things
38:05
and and chances are i don't have the same compassion that jesus has unless the holy spirit himself is using me at
38:11
that moment but jesus is perfect compassionate truly compassionate i
38:16
understand the human experience because he became one so that he could be the perfect high priest
38:22
so that's all i wanted to say today and we're gonna continue with uh chapter eight next week but hopefully this has
38:28
helped you okay have a wonderful day and i'll see you next time thank you
