Welcome back to our study of the book of Hebrews, today we'll be looking at Hebrews 10:1-10. The writer continues to show the weakness of the old covenant and its ultimate end. Last week, we talked about the worth of the blood of Christ, and the fact that only His blood has the capacity to take away sin. In the first ten verses of chapter 10, the writer is going to show that Scripture itself proves that only Christ's blood can really take away sin.

hello and welcome back to our study of the book of hebrews today we are going to begin chapter 10
0:07
and we are only going to look at verses 1 through 10. but before i get into it i kind of want to give you a quick
0:13
synopsis of what we've been talking about ever since so basically we said in the
0:20
beginning that the writer was primarily addressing jews okay people of jewish background
0:27
and they were jewish believers and his main intent was to prove that jesus was indeed the son of god and he was indeed
0:34
the one that came to die for our sins because some of them were being persecuted and as a result of the
0:41
persecution they were going back to the old system which is the rituals and the temples and all that is
0:48
and uh basically he wrote to tell them those things cannot save you because
0:53
they have no power to take away sins and we've been seeing this from ever since from chapter one
1:00
all the way to chapter nine we've talked about how the temple itself was a replica of
1:06
the actual tabernacle in heaven and that jesus actually ministers in the heavenly places and now he talked about how he he
1:13
did the contrast between the the tabernacle on earth and the actual tabernacle 11 we talked about the
1:19
location we talked about all the pieces of furniture within the tabernacle and how every single one of the furniture
1:26
was pointing to jesus and then last week we talked about the blood of christ and
1:31
we contrasted that to the blood of goat and bulls and we said briefly that the blood of bulls and goats could not take
1:38
away sins and jesus he entered the inner sanctuary with his own blood because we
1:43
talked about the work of christ blood he was able to enter into heaven in the
1:49
heavenly places and now he's our representative before god because the son of god okay the second person of
1:55
the trinity took upon a human nature and the reason why he did it so that he could atone for the sins of the whole
2:02
world those who will accept it will be now redeemed by his blood now god is the
2:08
one who does the calling god is the one who saves god is the one who prompts our hearts to receive jesus as our lord and
2:14
savior so we talked about the blood of christ but today uh what the writer is going to do in the first 10 verses of
2:20
chapter 10 is he's going to show that the blood of christ why the blood of christ why the blood of christ is indeed
2:27
worthy and why that has completely surpassed that of the blood of bulls and
2:32
goats so we are going to dive into chapter 10 and talk about the reason why
2:38
by scripture he proves that the blood of christ is indeed uh superior to that of the goats because
2:44
the blood of good again cannot take away sins so we are going to dive into this
2:49
and uh let's go to scripture so i'm going to read verses 1 through 10 and we are going to dissect it one verse at a
2:56
time so bear with me so hebrews chapter 10 verses 1 through
3:03
10 the scripture says for since the law has bought a shadow of
3:09
the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities he can never by the same sacrifices that
3:17
are continually offered every year make perfect through those who draw near
3:23
otherwise who did not have seeds to be offered referring to the sacrifices since the
3:28
worshipers having once been cleansed who no longer have any consciousness of sins
3:35
but in these sacrifices there's a reminder of sins every year
3:41
because of four it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins consequently when
3:49
christ came into the world he said sacrifices and offerings you have not
3:55
desired but a body have you prepared for me in burnt offerings and sin offerings you
4:01
have taken no pleasure then i said behold i have come to do
4:07
your will o god as it is written of me in the scroll of the book
4:12
when he said above you have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and
4:19
sin offerings these are offered according to the law then he added behold
4:25
i have come to do your will he does away with the first in order to establish the
4:31
second and by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the
4:36
body of jesus once for all this is the word of god so
4:42
now we are going to try to understand what the writer's argument is in these verses it's imperative that we we do
4:48
that so again he says for since the law has bought a shadow of the good things
4:54
to come inside of the true form of these realities it can never by the same sacrifices that are always
5:01
offered every year make perfect those who draw near otherwise would they not have seized to be offered since the
5:08
worshipers having once been cleansed who no longer have any consciousness of sins
5:14
but in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year for it is
5:20
impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins so what is he telling us now when he talks about
5:27
the same sacrifices being offered continually every year he's talking to he's talking about the day of atonement
5:34
that was the day when the high priest was allowed into the holy of holies and he went in there with a blood of bulls
5:40
and goats and he went there yearly to atone for the sins of the people and for his own sins as well so i'm not going to
5:47
get into the details of that but i want to explain what the writer is trying to tell us here so basically like
5:53
in our day and age right we have been so desensitized to the effect of sin
5:59
the sinfulness of sin is no longer mentioned even in churches the wrath of god is seldom preached and
6:06
the gospel has been stripped of many aspects of his content because preachers spend a lot of time
6:14
boosting up their congregation self-esteem instead of preaching the word of god
6:19
and that's why a lot of people do in churches nowadays if you go to a church you would take you you think that you were listening to a
6:25
motivational speaker because no one wanted to talk about guilt and uh sin and what sin does in our
6:33
lives they don't want to preach about it because a lot of us want to just feel better feel good about ourselves
6:39
so church has been reduced to that but if you look at what the hebrew writer is saying here he's talking about
6:45
some specific things okay because what happened is this uh in our day and age
6:52
because of the way sin is not preached about the result is disastrous because people no longer feel
6:59
the guilt of sin okay and even when they feel the guilt of it it is seldom attributed to sin in their lives so
7:07
that was not the case with king david and the jewish believers the writer was addressing and i want to go to psalm 51
7:14
okay this is david and i think he wrote this psalm after he he sinned against bathsheba you all know the story
7:22
listen to what david says in psalm 51. i just want to read the entire song
7:27
okay listen have mercy on me o god according to your steadfast love
7:34
according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions
7:39
wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleans me from my sin
7:45
for i know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me against you
7:53
you only have i sinned and done what is evil in your sight so that you may be
7:59
justified in your world and blameless in your judgment behold i was brought forth
8:06
in iniquity and sin and sin did my mother conceive me
8:11
behold you delight in truth in the inward being and you teach me wisdom in
8:16
the secret heart purge me with hyssop and i shall be clean wash me and i shall be whiter than snow
8:24
let me hear joy and gladness let the bones that you have broken rejoice
8:29
hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities create in me a clean heart oh god and
8:37
renew a right spirit within me cast me not away from your presence and
8:43
take not your holy spirit from me restore to me the joy of your salvation
8:50
and upward uphold me with a willing spirit then i will teach transgressors
8:56
your ways and sinners will return to you deliver me from what from
9:02
blood guiltiness oh god oh god of my salvation and my tongue will sing aloud
9:09
of your righteousness oh lord open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise for you will not
9:15
delight in sacrifice or i will give it you will not be pleased with a burned
9:21
offering the sacrifices of god are what a broken spirit a broken and a contrite
9:27
heart oh god you will not despise do good to zion in your good pleasure
9:32
build up the walls of jerusalem then will you delight in right sacrifices in burnt offerings and whole burned
9:39
offerings then bulls will be offered on your altar again david did not have the totality of
9:46
what we know today he did not know so much about christ yes he was preached the gospel he foresaw the coming of
9:52
christ and he looked forward to that so make no mistake about it but he didn't have all the benefits that we have today
9:59
but you understand and you see how he felt the guilt of his sin he was
10:05
miserable okay he mentions his bones being crushed and his joy being gone he no longer
10:11
experienced the intimacy of god and his conscience was stricken with guilt and
10:17
david himself recognizes that his depression was a direct result of his guilty
10:24
conscience because of the sin he had committed okay so why am i mentioning all these
10:29
things why do you think i'm saying all this thing and how does this pertain to verses one through four see the writer
10:36
has been showing the weakness of the old covenant because he was weak right
10:42
and one of the main elements of the old covenant was a sacrificial system
10:48
it was made to make the worshipers externally or ceremonially claimed so we
10:54
mentioned before that the blood of bulls and goats had no capacity
11:00
to provide any moral purity to the worshipers because he could not take away sin
11:06
i'll repeat that again the blood of bulls and goats had no capacity to provide any moral purity
11:13
to the worshipers because he could not take away sin so in this portion of chapter 10
11:19
uh it deals with the the portion of chapter 10 here talks about this weakness see the old
11:25
covenant and his laws and regulations were only a symbol of the two realities
11:31
in heaven and we talked about that in chapter nine so consequently they could not deal with sin and this
11:37
the effects of sin in our lives only people's lives so to speak so the writer says that the sacrifices offered every
11:44
year on the day of atonement what he's saying is this those sacrifices could not make the worship as perfect
11:52
okay what does that mean see jesus said somewhere unless your righteousness
11:58
exceeds that of the pharisees you shall not see in the kingdom of god right you shall not enter see standing in the
12:05
presence of god requires perfect righteousness let me say that again
12:10
standing in the presence of god requires god's righteousness and the blood of
12:17
bulls and goats could not take away sins so people were still feeling this thing of sin they were still guilty
12:24
okay so how does the writer know that so you have to ask yourself how did he know that
12:29
because if he couldn't guess what he's saying that the sacrifices would have ceased to be offered and the worshipers
12:36
having once being cleaned will no longer have any consciousness of sins so because they kept on giving the
12:42
sacrifices every every year that was a reminder of sins that means that your
12:48
sacrifices didn't really work okay see the blood of boots and goats that only gave them what a temporary
12:55
relief they were declared ceremonially clean but the actual guilt of sins remained
13:02
okay the actual guilt was still there so their conscience was still stricken even
13:09
though externally they were clean so they still have they still didn't have like a right standing before god
13:16
because of the inefficacy of the blood of bulls and good and what i think is
13:21
this i think we've done a poor job at preaching the gospel because people in those days they
13:26
understood the deadly consequences of sins so they didn't take it lightly as we took we take it lightly today they
13:33
understood what that meant and they knew that listen i know that i've given my goats i know
13:39
that i've offered the right sacrifices but i still feel guilty because guess what
13:45
the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins so it was probably terrifying then for them to realize that
13:52
in the eyes of god they were still guilty imagine every year you go offer a sacrifice and
13:59
all that dirt is it reminds you of your sin that that sin is still standing and
14:04
the longer you leave the worse it gets because jesus hadn't yet died yet so
14:12
they were stealing their sins because the blood of boots was just what a symbol and a picture of things to come
14:19
so even though they offered that it didn't do anything for them
14:24
because they still felt the guilt their heart was still guilty so the day of
14:29
atonement was actually a day they probably dreaded because all he did was reminding them of their sins and that's
14:36
that's that's like incredibly overwhelming see that's because today we don't understand the
14:42
weight of a guilty conscience understanding that listen i just offered all these sacrifices and yes i'm
14:49
judicially uh forgiven but my conscience is still stricken i just don't have that
14:55
inner witness of the holy spirit just yet see animals sacrifices that could
15:00
not completely deal with human guilt it couldn't it just couldn't there was no power in it
15:06
see god promised forgiveness to believe in worshippers but this is called in christian circles
15:12
or in theology judicial forgiveness and not the removal of guilt from their conscience so that was just judicial
15:19
meaning you declare not guilty but that's all he did he didn't really deal with the the
15:26
the the inward uh peace that the blood of christ provided so
15:31
people still lacked the inward witness of fool and final forgiveness so when i was reading this chapter what
15:38
really touched me was the grace of god this is what really got me like this is
15:45
how gracious god is because he put in place a system to give them hope so that they
15:51
will look forward to jesus okay the system was meant to keep them from being hopeless but since the blood of bulls
15:58
and calves couldn't take away the guilt of sins their conscience was still not clear see it wasn't god's fault
16:06
because he provided a way but that still was insufficient because the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins
16:14
see the writer couldn't be any more clear he's saying do you know why you still feel guilty
16:20
it's because the blood of bulls and gods cannot take away sin so every year when you offered your your your boots and
16:26
your couch on the day of atonement it did nothing for you absolutely zero because it can't really
16:33
take away sins god instituted it god did it so that people could have hope and look forward to the
16:38
christ that was the the primary objective is listen i'm going to give you this to just keep your minds on
16:45
what's coming jesus is coming but didn't understand that and they still felt guilty
16:50
so to me it's like wow this is the grace of god like he still knows that the blood of bulls and goats
16:56
cannot take away sins but he gives them that just as a temporary remedy saying listen
17:02
use this as a way to be reminded that my son is someday gonna come and atone for
17:07
your sins so the worshipers were supposed to look forward to the new covenant but i don't
17:13
think they understood that so in this chapter here the writer is trying to explain these things to them saying he's
17:18
using scripture to make his point and it's so clear that you can't deny the validity and the
17:25
truth of these words now let's go to verses five and nine so listen to what he said in verses five
17:32
through nine he goes consequently nice about to show
17:38
what uh happens because the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sin he's about to show listen because the
17:43
blood of bulls and goats cannot take away since something had to happen so he uses the word consequently and he goes
17:49
consequently when christ came into the world he said sacrifices and offerings you have not
17:57
desired what a body have you prepared for me in burnt offerings and sin
18:02
offerings you have taken no pleasure then i said behold i have come to do
18:07
your will oh god as it is written of me in the scroll of the book when he said above you have neither
18:14
desire nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings these are offered
18:20
according to the law then he added behold i have come to do your will he does it with the first in order to
18:27
establish the second so now we're gonna dissect this basically um
18:33
let's go to uh psalm 40 i want to read psalm 40 verse 68 because it's it's important
18:38
that we read that the scripture says because the writer is quoting those verses all right he goes in sacrifice
18:45
and offering you have not delighted but you have given me an open ear burnt offering and sin offering you have
18:51
not required then i said behold i have come in the scroll of the book it is
18:56
written of me i delight to do your will oh my god your law is within my heart so
19:01
the writer of the hebrews he is quoting that verse for psalm 40 verses 6 to 8.
19:08
and he attributes that verse to jesus in his incarnation so basically he's saying that verse applies to jesus this
19:15
is jesus speaking okay now god is the one who put in place the sacrifices and
19:21
offerings but they were only provisional that was their the the role of it there was only there until the time of what
19:27
reformation so before we dive into this more extensively i need to look at like a variation here between
19:34
the writers quotation and verse 6 of psalm 40 right because in in the
19:39
writer's quotation he says uh if you go to verse of six he goes in burnt offering and sin
19:47
offerings you have taken no pleasure then i said behold i have come to do your will but then inver in psalm 40
19:54
the scripture says in verse 6 um in verse 6 then i said
20:00
you have given me an open ear all right so why is there a variation there i just want to give you some quick um things
20:07
that i read because some some people connect you have opened my ear with exodus 21
20:13
verses 1 to 6 you can look that up and the passage basically describes the actions of a master whose servant did
20:20
not want to be set free so the master pretty much bought a hole through the earlobe of the
20:26
servant which was a sign that the servant preferred to remain with his master
20:32
and the idea is that jesus christ our lord was it was like a willing servant who had his ears pierced okay
20:40
now that's one way so an open ear could also signify a readiness to hear and obey the will of
20:47
god because god gave his son a prepared body that his son might serve god and
20:52
fulfill his will on earth and then we can go to a couple of verses to read that let's go to john 4 verse 34.
20:59
let's go to john 4 34 real quick listen to what jesus says here i'm going to read those verses to you
21:07
listen he says jesus said to them my food is to do the will of him who
21:13
sent me and to accomplish his work so he knew why he came and then john 5 30.
21:19
listen to that
21:24
i can do nothing on my own as i hear i judge and my judgment is just
21:30
because i seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me so he knew why
21:35
he came and if you go to john 6 38 john 6 38 let's listen let's listen to
21:42
the scripture
21:47
jesus says for i have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the
21:53
will of him who sent me so basically jesus tells us why he came
21:58
he came to do the will of the father who sent him and then we we're going to finish this with john 17
22:04
uh verse 4. i glorified you on earth having
22:10
accomplished the work that you gave me to do what is the work to come and die and atone for the sins of the people
22:17
okay the human race so basically an open ear
22:23
indicates a body a person ready for service and that's exactly what jesus jesus did so the holy spirit is the one
22:30
who inspired psalm 40 so he has the right to amplify and interpret his word in hebrews chapter 10. so i don't see
22:37
any problem with this variation here now again god is the one who put in
22:42
place the old covenant and the sacrificial system but god was not pleased with it
22:49
because it wasn't good not because he wasn't good that's not why god wasn't placed with it okay because god is the
22:55
one who instituted it and god says everything that god does is good but the reason why god was not pleased
23:01
is because the sacrifices could not render the worshipers righteous obedient
23:08
he couldn't they couldn't do that they had no power and the writers keep trying to prove
23:14
this to his readers saying listen the blood of bulls and gods could not take away sins and god is not pleased not
23:21
because he wasn't good but because he had no capacity to atone for your sins he had no capacity to give you a clean
23:27
heart he had no capacity to render you obedient so there was no power in them
23:32
to achieve this end so this is why jesus said in sacrifices and burn offerings you found no pleasure
23:40
and as a result jesus offered himself he says i have come to do your will
23:47
okay so he came to fulfill that which we couldn't do for ourselves that which the
23:52
blood of bulls and goats could not do so ultimately we are saved by works
23:58
but not our works by the works of jesus so we are saved again by works but not our works but the works
24:05
of jesus and we put our faith in jesus so jesus works is what saved us
24:11
not me not you but jesus works okay so he's he's the one who did the will of
24:17
god that which pleased god and he pleased the father to pierce him the scripture says and he did it
24:25
delightfully willingly to the satisfaction of god jesus didn't frown going to the cross he
24:31
didn't go i don't want to do this yes in the scripture it's recorded that he struggled he said not my will that would
24:38
be done because he knew that he was going to be separated from god the father so it wasn't i don't want to do this no
24:45
it's like i love you so much father and this is hard for me but then what did he say at the end not
24:51
my word that will be done so god the son did this delightfully in his
24:57
human nature so and he established the new covenant and we talked about it
25:02
when he went to the table he said this is the blood of the new covenant which is my body that was
25:08
broken for you and the blood and and then we take communion and we are reminded of that because jesus
25:14
established a new covenant with his disciples he inaugurated that okay and god was pleased with his work and
25:21
how do we know that god was pleased with his work because he rose from the dead his resurrection proved that god was
25:29
pleased with him or he would have remained dead okay so if god wasn't pleased with jesus
25:34
he would have remained dead so him rising from the dead showed that the father was pleased with his sacrifice so
25:42
he automatically took away the first covenant by doing what he did so to the people that were reading that for
25:48
the first time that meant why go back to a system that is obsolete
25:53
and can do nothing to take away your sins why go back to that
25:58
and the writer was trying to prove that here he's saying even the scriptures testify to the coming of christ and he's
26:04
deaf on the cross even the scriptures show that the blood of bulls and gods could not take away sins even the
26:09
scripture shows that jesus had to come and die to atone for the sins so that your conscience could be clear so that
26:16
you can be declared clean and know the internal weakness of that and the reason why you feel the way you
26:22
feel is because the blood of bulls and goats could not make you right before god it gave you no right standing all he
26:29
did was declared you ceremonially claimed so if you go to isaiah 53 it
26:34
tells the entire story of what jesus came to do let's go i know i read this isaiah 53
26:40
several times this week like in the past several weeks but i think it's important that we go back to it
26:47
listen to what the scripture says i'm going to try my best to read it as accurate as possible
26:53
accurately as possible the scripture says who has believed what he has heard
26:59
from us and to whom has the arm of the lord been revealed
27:04
for he grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of the dry ground he
27:10
had no form or majesty that we should look at him and no beauty that we should
27:15
desire him he was despised and rejected by men a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief
27:23
and as one from moon men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not
27:28
surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him
27:34
stricken smitten by god and afflicted but he was pierced for our transgressions
27:41
he was crushed for our iniquities upon him was the child's husband that brought
27:46
brother's peace and with his wounds we are healed all we like sheep have gone astray we have
27:53
turned everyone to his own way and the lord has laid on him the iniquity of us
27:58
all he was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth like a lamb
28:05
that is led to the slaughter and like a sheep that before he shares his silence so he opened not his mouth by oppression
28:12
and judgment he was taken away and asked for his generation who considered that he was cut off out of
28:18
the land of the living striking for the transgression of my people and they made his grave with the wicked
28:24
and with a rich man in his death although he had done no violence and there was no deceit in his mouth yet
28:32
listen to this it was the will of the lord to crush him he has put him
28:39
to grief why when his soul makes an offering for guilt
28:46
you see that he shall see his offspring he shall prolong his days the will of the lord shall prosper in
28:55
his hand see the will of the lord did not prosper in the hands of the sacrifices and the old system he
29:00
couldn't but the will of the lord prospered in jesus's hand
29:06
out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied and listen to the next verse
29:11
by his knowledge shall the righteous one my servant make many to be accounted what righteous
29:19
and he shall bear their iniquities see the blood of bulls and goats could not do that
29:25
he couldn't because people still felt the guilty conscience
29:31
he couldn't do it but then when christ came as a uh
29:36
better off the the good things to come the guilt was taken away and there was that inward witness of the holy spirit
29:42
people knew now i know that i know that i'm guiltless before god
29:48
and they could see that back then they couldn't because the blood of bulls and gods cannot take away the sins okay
29:55
now listen to the rest of the verse therefore i shall divide him in portion with the many and he shall divide the
30:02
spoil with the strong because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered
30:07
with the transgressors yet he bought the sin of many and makes intercession for
30:13
the transgressors you see that the blood of bulls the gods can do that the goats
30:18
and the cows they couldn't they couldn't deceive the sins of the people all they did was make them ceremonially clean as
30:23
a matter of fact on the day of atonement people probably felt
30:29
the dread of god because it was a reminder of their sins every year it's almost like we're in 2021 and today's
30:37
the day of atonement i go there i'm reminded of all the sins that i've committed since i was born and then the following year in 2022 that's like i'm
30:45
40 years old so 41 years of sinning and i'm remembering all the stuff that i've done because the
30:50
blood of bulls and goats can't take away the sins could you imagine living for like 80 years knowing that your sins are
30:57
still piling up all these years knowing that listen this blood of bulls
31:02
and goods can't take away the sins and you feel the guilt of it no wonder why when people when jesus told people
31:09
whoever is without sin let him cast the first stones they all dropped their sons and left because they were reminded of
31:15
what they had done you see they were not guiltless they were guilty
31:22
and that's the way it was so now the advent of christ and his death on the cross the veil was torn
31:27
from top to bottom accessing to the holy of holies was accept was was permitted because now
31:33
people had a right standing before god and we can enter into the holy of holies this is what the blood of christ has
31:39
done and the writer is trying to prove this to his readers listen jesus himself proves it in in a in
31:48
in isaiah 53 and then he quotes psalm 40 it's all about the lord and his work
31:54
so he's showing his readers now listen i'm not just saying something that sounds good to my ears it is
31:59
scripturally true because the scripture proves it and that's what he's trying to show to his readers it's incredible
32:06
it's incredible and then we go to verse 10 he goes and by that will we have been sanctified
32:13
through the offering of the body of jesus christ once for all see with the new covenant
32:19
the worshipers have now been set apart once and for all god has set them apart saying now this
32:26
he's he belongs to me she belongs to me because they've been set apart by the blood of christ
32:32
because now they are holy unto the lord see in the old covenant the sacrifices
32:37
had to be offered repeatedly and all they did was declare the worshiper
32:43
ceremonially clean for that day until the next day of atonement but in the new covenant the saint is set
32:51
apart finally and completely listen to that again in the new covenant the scent is set
32:58
apart finally and completely right so we are now vessels of god to be
33:06
used for his glory we are declared just before him even though we may still experience the effects of the sinful
33:12
nature guilt and shame that may still happen we are right before god and we have access
33:18
because of the blood of christ see the bloody mess had to be stopped and the slaughter of animals had to be stopped
33:24
because he did nothing and now with jesus accessing to the holy of holies
33:30
is permitted so he's proving to his readers listen don't go back to that old system it does
33:37
absolutely zero for you because the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins see i'm not jewish i'm a
33:44
gentile right i mean it's clear and when i was reading these things i
33:49
wanted to to feel what it felt like to be a worshiper in those days understanding this for the
33:55
first time even i read this today i'm like wow the grace of god what really touched me was the grace of god that god
34:02
actually instituted the sacrificial system to keep people hopeful
34:08
he didn't have to do that god did it again to keep the eyes on christ say listen i'm gonna show you
34:14
a provisional thing here to keep your eyes on jesus because he's gonna come eventually and i'm gonna set you free
34:20
from this so god is good and then when i saw that i was just
34:26
overwhelmed with just thankfulness so i hope this ministers to you today i
34:33
don't know what you're going through but i'll say this i wish that more preachers
34:42
will spend quality time talking about the wrath of god not because i have
34:47
pleasure in talking about the wrath of god but because people don't understand what jesus has done the more you
34:52
understand the wrath of god the more you understand the bad news the sweeter the good news sound to you
34:59
because if you don't understand that your sins are actually piling up to the point where god is ready to burn you and
35:05
he has the right to do so because the wages of sin is death then jesus blood
35:11
on the cross means nothing to you because when you truly understand i am
35:16
made right before god because of jesus so all my sins are actually
35:21
been atoned for now i'm not guilty because if i die
35:26
tonight i'm going straight to heaven i'm not saying it because i have confidence in myself because there's
35:33
still struggles sometimes okay and the scripture tells us even if when our heart condemns us
35:40
god is greater than our hearts and he knows all things but if i were to die tonight i would be
35:45
right in the presence of god because i am now declared not guilty because righteousness of
35:51
christ has been given to me because he shed his blood and i'm the blood of christ takes away the sins and
35:58
now i have it right standing before god so and then guess what
36:04
we saw in chapter 9 that god say that he will put his spirit in us okay some people say well you can
36:09
still be a christian and still live a life of sin because you haven't made jesus the lord of your life there's no
36:15
such thing scripture tells us clearly that god says that in those days once the sins are
36:21
forgiven the spirit of god comes and what indwells us and now he he he gives us the capacity to do the work of god he
36:29
gives us the capacity to love the law of god so you can be a christian and live a
36:35
life of sin i'm not saying you won't sin i'm saying if that's the habit of yours then maybe
36:40
you've never been saved and i don't want to play games with you
36:45
so examine yourself to see if you're in the faith all right but jesus christ again
36:51
one time he did he he died on the cross and that was sufficient he satisfied the wrath of god and our sins were removed
36:58
from us so we no longer are guilty so we can go into the presence of god that's amazing news
37:04
so have a wonderful day and i'll see you next time thank you
