Redemption Through the Blood Of Christ, hebrews 9:11-28

Welcome back to our study of the book of Hebrews, today we'll be focusing on Hebrews 9:11-28, redemption through the blood of Christ. Last week, we talked about the inferiority of the first covenant's temple and its practices and regulations. Every piece of furniture within the tabernacle of Moses was symbolic of a greater spiritual reality in the new covenant. The writer showed from the first ten verses of chapter 9 that the old covenant's tabernacle was indeed a shadow and a copy of the realities of the new covenant's tabernacle. In the remaining verses of chapter 9, he is going to now show that the sacrificial system of the old covenant was also inferior to the sacrifice wrought by Christ on the cross.

hello i hope you're having a good sunday and welcome back to our study of the book of hebrews we started chapter nine
0:08
uh last week and we talked about the sanctuary and its regulations and how
0:14
those regulations and the sanctuary itself communicated that it was earthly and it was inferior to the actual
0:20
tabernacle of god in the heavenly places and we talked about all the pieces of furniture within the sanctuary and how
0:27
they were symbolic of a reality that was in heaven that jesus christ acquired for
0:33
those he has called his people so now today we're going to talk about the blood of christ and how only the
0:39
blood of christ gives us true redemption now again remember when
0:44
when the writer of the book of hebrews was pending down those words he was addressing people that were going
0:50
through persecution and uh one of the things that they were facing was they wanted to go back to the old covenant
0:58
and his systems because i guess doing that would mean that they were no longer going to be persecuted so he took upon
1:04
himself on the challenge of explaining that listen that old system is over with
1:10
because god has announced it and he shows through scriptures and we've seen it from chapter one all the way to
1:16
chapter nine now that every single argument that he has presented is concise is valid and how it shows that
1:24
the old covenant was just a picture of the new and the new embodies the true
1:29
realities and the true spiritual realities that has been accomplished by jesus christ so today we're going to
1:34
talk about the blood of christ itself okay so if you want to take a look at last week's message i'll have a link for
1:40
you in the description and i would encourage you to go look at it again so i'm going to take it from verses 11
1:46
all the way to 2 verses 28 and then we are going to dissect it so bear with me i'm gonna get the verse up
1:52
on my screen and we're going to read it together
1:58
so hebrews chapter 9 verse 11 to 28 the scripture says
2:05
but when christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come
2:11
then through the greater a more perfect tent not made with hands that is not of this creation he entered once for all
2:18
into the holy places not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood
2:26
thus securing an eternal redemption four if the blood of goods and bulls and
2:32
the sprinkling the sprinkling of the of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer
2:38
sanctified for the purification of the flesh how much more will the blood of christ who through the eternal spirit
2:45
offered himself without blemish to god purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living god
2:52
excuse me therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant so that those who are called
2:59
may receive the promised eternal inheritance since a death has occurred
3:04
that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant for what a will is involved the
3:11
death of the one who made it must be established for a will takes effect only a death since it is not enforced as long
3:18
as the one who made it is alive therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood for when
3:26
every commandment of the law had been declared by moses to all the people he took the blood of calves and goats with
3:33
water and scarlet wool and hyssop and sprinkled both the book itself and all
3:38
the people saying this is the blood of the covenant that god commanded for you and in the same
3:45
way is sprinkled with the blood both the taint and all the vessels used in
3:51
worship indeed under the law almost everything is purified with blood and
3:58
without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins thus it was necessary for the copies of
4:05
the heavenly things to be purified with these rights for the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than
4:13
these for christ has entered not into holy places made with hands which are copies of the true things but into
4:19
heaven itself now to appear in the presence of god on our behalf
4:25
nor was he to offer himself repeatedly as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood nor his own
4:33
for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world but as it is he has appeared once
4:42
for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself and
4:48
just as it is appointed for men to die once and after that comes judgment
4:54
so christ having been offered offered once to bear the sins of many will
4:59
appear a second time not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly
5:05
waiting for him again this is the word of god and we are going to
5:10
try to dissect all these words today again this is heavy stuff so we're going to have to do that
5:16
one verse at a time we're going to begin with verses 11 and 12. so i'm going to read those back again
5:22
and then we're going to try to understand what the writer is telling us here and his readers but when christ appeared as a high
5:29
priest of the good things that have come then through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands that is
5:35
not of this creation he entered once for all into the holy places not by means of
5:40
the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood thus securing an
5:46
eternal redemption so let's understand that so when jesus
5:51
christ took upon a human nature through the virgin birth as we saw in the earlier chapters he began the
5:57
reformation okay he was the high priest of the better promises that god has sworn to give to his people if you go
6:04
back to jeremiah 31 verses 31 to 34 i'm gonna quickly mention it and then we're gonna see what
6:10
the scripture tells us because i think it's imperative that we talk about it so let's go to jeremiah 31 again to see the
6:17
promises the better promises of the new covenant
6:22
so the new covenant promises listen to what god says here behold the days are coming
6:29
declares the lord when i will make a new covenant with the house of israel and the house of judah
6:35
not like the covenant that i made with their fathers on the day when i took them by the hand to bring them out of
6:40
the land of egypt my covenant that they broke though i was their husband declares the lord for this is the
6:46
covenant that i will make with the house of israel after those days declares the
6:52
lord i will put my law within them and i will write them on their hearts and i
6:58
will be their god and they shall be my people and no longer shall each one teach his brother
7:04
and neighbor saying no the lord for they shall all know me from the least of them to the greatest declares the lord for i
7:11
will forgive their iniquity and i will remember their sin no more again these
7:16
are the better promises of the new covenant okay and we talk about that in chapter eight now jesus christ acquired
7:24
those promises on behalf of the people of god so he is the only reason why
7:29
those promises were made available we saw in chapter four that he has passed through the heavens and he is seated at
7:36
the right hand of god he has surpassed the levites because he went through the
7:42
tabernacle in heaven where he ministers he's not ministering in an earthly tabernacle we talked about that we
7:48
talked about him being in the true tabernacle of god in the heavenly places
7:53
so he went through the actual tabernacle that was revealed to moses the one that god himself had erected a temple that's
8:01
not defiled by man's hand and he's also going to show how this high priest jesus
8:06
was able to enter into the tabernacle of god in the heavenly places okay so how did jesus enter
8:13
so jesus christ entered the tabernacle of god by his own blood
8:19
okay i want you to pause for a second and just think about this like he went through the tabernacle by his
8:26
own blood that i mean his blood has that much worth that's the whole point here okay the
8:32
high priest under the levites they could not enter the holy of holies
8:37
okay they only were allowed to enter the holy of holies once a year on the day of
8:42
atonement and before they entered they had to use the blood of goods and and
8:48
then cars so access to the holy of holies was restricted
8:53
until the following year's day of atonement so they only were allowed to enter into that place once a year
9:00
so but jesus christ when he performed when when after shedding his blood on
9:05
the cross jesus christ was received in the heavenly tabernacle and unlike the high priest and the levi
9:12
uh he performs his duties as a high priest in the heavenly places in the holy of holies that is actually the
9:18
actual holy of holies so the writer is also showing here that the the blood of jesus has that much work
9:25
okay his blood is so worthy that he gave him permanent access let me say that again
9:31
permanent access into the holy of holies not just temporal or temporary but he's there
9:38
forever he's in the holy of holies because he has acquired it by his blood he entered the holy place by his blood
9:45
we talked about when jesus was crucified what did he say it is finished and he braved his last he
9:54
braved his last and the veil was torn from top to bottom thus giving access
9:59
into the holy of holies and when jesus entered access was now open people could see into the holy of holies because of
10:06
jesus not because of their own uh marriage but because of jesus because he acquired it by his blood his blood
10:13
finally or satisfied the wrath of god and he also what did what he expected since meaning the sins of the people
10:20
were removed from them and now we have a right standing with god because of jesus
10:25
blood okay so if you go to uh john 10 17 to 18.
10:32
why did jesus do all this we need to answer that we need to understand that he did this voluntarily he wasn't forced
10:39
to do this he wanted to do this because he said somewhere in john 10 verse 17 to 18 let's read that
10:46
for this reason the father loves me because i lay down my life that i might
10:52
take it up again no one takes it from me but i lay down on my own accord of my own accord i have
11:01
authority to lay down when i have authority to take it up again this charge i've received from my father so
11:07
no one forced him the godhead the triune god decided for all eternity and jesus voluntarily did
11:14
this because he was he he delighted in doing the will of god so he he did it with pleasure even
11:21
though it was painful he did it now and second um
11:27
why did he do it he did it to save mankind because if you go to isaiah 53 which i'm
11:32
going to read is a long passage i want to read that to you because he did it to obtain eternal salvation for the people of god
11:39
and he does fulfill the redemptive plan of god and restored our fellowship with
11:44
god because of what he did on the cross so this this portion here verses 11 and 12
11:49
shows how much the blood of jesus is worth he has
11:54
infinite worth because this is it through the eternal spirit so
11:59
it takes an if an infinite uh being to satisfy the infinite wrath of
12:05
god so of infinite value so the blood of jesus is of infinite value this is what i meant to say so basically by doing
12:12
what he did he satisfied the wrath of god and he also took away the sins from the people we talked about how in the
12:19
old covenant the sins of the people were only covered they were not taken away so their conscience wasn't clear
12:26
that's important to know that because they knew year after year that their scenes were
12:31
being piled up again and again and again so i want to go to isaiah 53 to show you
12:36
exactly what god has done in jesus listen to the scripture who has believed what he has heard from
12:43
us and to whom has the arm of the lord being revealed for he grew up before him
12:49
like a young plant and like a root out of the dry ground he had no form or
12:54
majesty that we should look at him and no beauty that we should desire him he
13:00
was despised and rejected by man a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and
13:06
as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not
13:14
surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him
13:20
stricken sweetened by god and afflicted but he was pierced for our
13:25
transgressions he was crushed for our iniquities upon him
13:31
was the chastisement that brought us peace and with his wounds we are healed all we
13:38
like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the
13:44
lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all let that sink in the lord has laid on
13:52
him the iniquity of us all that means jesus christ
13:58
upon his shoulders god laid the iniquity of all of us
14:03
all of us and because his blood has that much work he was able to do what to satisfy the
14:11
wrath of god and to also remove sins from us so this is incredible he was oppressed
14:17
and he was afflicted and yet he opened not his mouth like a lamb that is led to
14:23
the slaughter and like a sheep down before his shares he's silent so he opened the nut his mouth by oppression
14:30
and judgment he was taken away and as for his generation who considered that he was cut off out of the land of
14:36
the living stricken for the transgression of my people and they made his grave with the wicked and with a
14:42
rich man in his death although he had done no violence and there was no deceit in his mouth so again this is prophecy
14:49
that was fulfilled because joseph was armathia he gave his grave to
14:55
jesus christ so again he was crucified with two thieves on the cross so this prophecy was fulfilled
15:02
now listen to verse 10 yet it was the will of the lord to crush him
15:08
and we repeat that again it was the will of the lord to crush him he has put him to grief when his soul makes an offering
15:16
for guilt you see that his soul makes an offering for guilt he shall see his offspring he
15:22
shall prolong his days the will of the lord shall prosper in
15:28
his hand out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied by his
15:34
knowledge shall the righteous one my servant make many to be accounted righteous and he
15:42
shall bear their iniquities therefore i will divide him a portion with the
15:47
many and he shall divide the spoil with the strong because he poured out his soul to
15:53
death and was numbered with the transgressors yet he bought the scene of many and makes what intercession
16:01
for the transgressors again is right there in our faces he makes intercession
16:06
for the transgressors after making purification for sins he sat down at the right hand of the father so he went in
16:13
there and now he's interceding for us he leaves to intercede for us the scripture tells us so this is exactly what jesus
16:19
has done his blood has that much worth so if you if you think about it
16:25
if you really sit down and think about these verses they are communicating the truth that cannot be denied
16:30
god prepared this for all eternity and jesus fulfilled every single one of
16:35
these prophecies so the new covenant was inaugurated and fulfilled by jesus
16:42
excuse me so now we're going to continue
16:49
now listen to what he says in verses 13 and 14. this is incredible for if the blood of goods and booze and
16:56
the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a hyper sanctify for the purification of the
17:03
flesh how much more will the will the blood of christ
17:09
who through the eternal spirit offered himself without blemish to god purify our conscience from dead works to serve
17:16
the living god now listen to that so now again the author is showing the inferiority of
17:24
the blood of goats and bulls in comparison to the blood of christ see the old covenant rituals and
17:30
practices as we saw in chapter 8 they only put an emphasis on the external ceremonial cleansing this doesn't mean
17:38
that people didn't have like a spiritual experience as long as the worshipers obeyed the prescribed regulations they
17:44
were declared claimed but these rituals let's understand that they could not
17:50
cleanse the conscience of the worshiper that's important and he's going to talk
17:56
extensively about this in chapter 10. so we talked about the better promises of the new covenant in chapter
18:02
eight so god the holy spirit was sent to us that we may be empowered to do the
18:08
will of god okay but the spirit of god couldn't have been given to the people of god
18:14
without the initial work of jesus christ so the giving of the spirit was contingent on the obedience of jesus
18:22
shedding his blood for the remission of sins in order that the holy spirit may come and dwell in us
18:29
because mankind has a shallow view of the holiness of god we do i mean it's honestly we do have a shallow view of
18:35
the holiness of god we don't understand what the law requires because if you go to
18:40
deuteronomy 6 5 we are called to love the lord with what with all our hearts
18:46
minds and strength and our might and none of us can do that not one of us can do that
18:51
because of our sinful nature like i've been options what time today like
18:57
five o'clock or 6 30 i'm sure i've done things today that were not pleasing to god
19:03
see what god requires and demands is perfect righteousness every nanosecond
19:09
of your life should be dedicated to the will of god that's the kind of stuff that he
19:14
requires this is why jesus tells the pharisees and the people unless your righteousness exceeds that of the
19:21
pharisees you shall not enter the kingdom of god because what god requires is a perfect righteousness and no one
19:27
can do it but jesus did it and he became the second adam our representative so he
19:33
came so that we may have access by he he lived the perfect life and so now his righteousness is imputed to us
19:41
okay so god said you shall be holy for i the lord i'm holy so jesus jesus shed his
19:48
blood sins were washed away and our bodies became what the temple of the
19:54
holy spirit again the blood of jesus what it does is
20:00
it is not just cleansing us from it on externally now that the blood of god
20:05
did that but jesus christ blood cleans cleanses our conscience because
20:11
it removes the guilt that's how much the power is in his blood and that's what the the writer is trying
20:18
to drive to his readers and us today the blood of jesus only the blood of jesus can clear your conscience
20:25
when you accept it when you understand that you are guilty before a holy god and you deserve to die
20:32
to be separated forever only the blood of christ can take away the sins
20:37
nothing else okay there's a song that say uh
20:43
all other grand is seeking saint okay only the blood of christ can take away sins i want to repeat that again
20:51
only the blood of jesus can cleanse your conscience from dead works because you stand guilty before god so
20:57
there's nothing you can do to atone for your sins by the blood of jesus and then you receive his righteousness
21:04
okay and then the spirit of god comes and dwells in you to empower you to do the will of god
21:11
so this is what the blood of christ does this is the worth of the blood of christ if you go to acts 3 verse 17 to 25 let's
21:19
read the scripture and now brothers i know that you acted in ignorance as did also your rulers but
21:26
what god foretold by the mouth of all the prophets that his christ will suffer
21:32
he thus fulfilled repent therefore and turn back that your sins may be blooded
21:38
out that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the lord and that he may send the christ the he may send
21:46
the christ appointed for you jesus whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which god
21:54
spoke by the mouth of all his prophets long ago moses said the lord god will raise up for you a
22:00
prophet like me from your brothers you shall listen to him in whatever he tells you and it shall be that every soul who
22:07
does not listen to what the prophet says shall be destroyed from the people and all the prophets have who have spoken
22:14
from samuel and those who came after him also proclaimed these days
22:20
you are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that god made with your fathers saying to abraham and in your
22:26
offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed god having raised up your servant
22:33
sending for you to you first to bless you by turning every one of you from
22:38
your wickedness and i want to follow that with acts 2 verses 37 and 39.
22:44
listen to the scripture now when they heard this they were cut to
22:49
the heart and said to peter and the rest of all the apostles brothers
22:55
what shall we do that's when peter preaches the sermon after the giving of this holy spirit on pentecost right and
23:01
peter said to them repent and be baptized every one of you in the
23:07
name of jesus christ for what for the forgiveness of your sins
23:13
and you receive the gift of the holy spirit you see that for the promise is for you and for your children and for
23:20
all who are far off everyone whom the lord our god calls to himself see
23:26
the blood of jesus does what for the forgiveness of our sins he takes away the sins it clears our conscience it
23:33
cleanses us from all unrighteousness and then we receive the holy spirit to empower us to do what to do the will of
23:39
god so the writer again is contrasting the blood of christ to the blood of calves
23:45
and goats the blood of gods and goat was so limited was so small all he did all
23:51
he did was declare people ceremonially cleaned on the external he did nothing to take away the guilt
23:57
so all that bloody mess did nothing because he had that limited value
24:03
okay can you imagine how many lambs and goats were sacrificed for all these
24:08
years before jesus came many in the thousands in the millions
24:13
and all of those all of the blood spilled but all these goats did nothing
24:18
but just declare people what externally clean and jesus christ dies one time
24:25
bleeds on the cross shed his blood for our sake and that blood has that much value that he completely
24:32
obliterates the blood of goats and bud because he takes away the sting of sin
24:37
the guilt of sin he expiates our sins and he also what satisfy the wrath of god this is how much worth the blood of
24:44
christ has this is incredible and now could you imagine those those guys that were listening to the writer at the time like
24:51
listening to those words understanding the truth behind the sacrifices of jesus this is incredible
24:57
and now next we're going to go to verses um 15 just verse 15 alone for now
25:03
now listen to what he says here therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant so that those who are called
25:10
may receive the promise eternal inheritance since a death has occurred that redeems them
25:17
from the transgressions committed under the first covenant again
25:23
what's the observation here see because of all the reasons the writer just mentioned it is evident without
25:30
ambiguity that jesus is indeed the mediator of the new covenant because
25:35
under the old covenant the blessings dependent depended on the obedience of god's
25:40
people if they obeyed they were blessed and when they disobeyed god withheld his blessings
25:48
and the problem is this like not only were the blessings temporary but they were also temporal because they were
25:54
limited to like crops and rain and protection from enemies and sickness and
25:59
basically like it was almost like material possessions material like blessings but a new covenant
26:05
came with eternal blessings because it is spiritual in its nature
26:11
that's why the people of god were called to cast their gaze on what on things that are above where christ is seated at
26:17
the right hand of god see i do want to mention the key word here the writer uses the word those who are
26:23
called okay so the promised eternal inheritance mentioned is only given to
26:29
those god himself as called by his sovereign will it's not for everybody only those god has called
26:36
so i just wanted to make that point clear now and once again the writer reminds his original readers
26:42
and us like ultimately that this new covenant is possible because a death has
26:47
occurred that has redeemed the people of god from the transgressions committed under the first covenant see he reminds
26:54
his readers that those transgressions were still counting the gay youth and counting against you
27:00
as long as the first covenant was effective because again again and again it reminds them the blood of goats and
27:07
bulls could not take away the sins all he did was declared you ceremonially cleaned and externally
27:13
claimed he didn't really take away the guilt because your conscience was still not clear but the blood of christ does
27:18
away with all of that because it completely takes away the sins from us all right
27:23
so that's what he talked about in verse 15 and now we're going to go to 16 to 23. so listen to what he's saying here
27:30
for where if for where a wheel is involved the death of the one who made it must be established
27:36
for a will takes effect only at death since it is not enforced as long as the one who made it is alive therefore not
27:44
even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood for when every commandment of the law had been declared by moses to
27:51
all the people he took the blood of calves and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop and sprinkled both the
27:58
book itself and all the people saying this is the blood of the covenant that god commanded for you and in the same
28:05
way is sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship
28:11
indeed under the law almost everything is purified with blood
28:16
and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins thus it was necessary for the copies of
28:23
the heavenly things to be purified with this right but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than
28:29
these now what's the observation here see the word covenant in this sentence
28:35
also carries the idea of like will or testament see the writer in these verses he wants to put an emphasis on the
28:42
necessity and the reality and the validity of the new covenant first what
28:47
he does is he explains what a covenant entails the death of the one who made it
28:52
it will is not effective unless or until the one who made it passes away you all
28:58
know that that's like we know about the wheel here okay we all know we live in this country we know that hey what's your will did you make a
29:04
world did you make a testament in french we use the word testament okay so for the first covenant to be
29:10
effective moses sprinkled the book of the covenant and the people with blood if you go to exodus 24 verse 3-8 you can
29:19
read about it so and the second element the writer mentions is the purification of the
29:24
objects used in worship and forgiveness of sins only by blood okay that's that's
29:29
also important to mention here because those two elements must be present first
29:34
the death of the one with the the will and second the sprinkle of the
29:40
purification of all the objects of worship for the forgiveness of sin by blood so
29:47
we can recall the significance of this practice see the ceremonial uh purification meant that the people were
29:53
now what are acceptable to god it was symbolic okay we talked about that in chapter
29:59
seven and chapter eight so it's important to understand that the symbolism that's that's just that the
30:06
earthly tabernacle as we mentioned before was supposed to convey the realities of the true tabernacle
30:13
since god had ordained that remission of sins was through blood and the shedding of blood only and since purification
30:20
comes through the sprinkling of blood while the earthly weaker tabernacle was purified with the blood of goats and
30:25
bulls the heavenly tabernacle had to be purified by the death of one whose blood
30:31
was worthy okay because the earthly one we talked about his inferiority was a limited
30:37
place okay and the blood of goats and bulls again could not take away the sins all he did was allow people to perform
30:44
their duties now the heavenly place had to be
30:50
accessible through the blood of one whose blood was worthy okay so and there's none worthy about by but god
30:56
since god can die he had to take upon the human nature and shed his blood in order for the prophet for the
31:03
publication to occur so now we know that the heavenly tabernacle was perfect so people may ask
31:09
how could that be defined because it was created and erected by god so i'm glad you asked so we need to understand that
31:16
this has to do with people's relationship to god okay it has nothing to do with the tabernacle being defiled
31:22
there like that it has to do with relationships because in order for the human race to breach the gap to bridge
31:28
the gap to god we have to be right with god and sin separates us from god and
31:34
there is literally nothing we can do to earn our way back to god there's nothing so we are doomed
31:41
so we've been separated and there's nothing we can do to earn our way back so god himself
31:47
restores this relationship and restores his fellowship with the new covenant and the new covenant was
31:53
inaugurated by the blood of christ so that blood served as a propitiation
31:58
and expiation for our sins so now you see why the death of christ was essential to the effecting the
32:05
effectiveness of the new covenant okay i had to read this because it was a lot of words condensed in one thing and i
32:10
wanted to make sure you understand that so jesus had to die
32:15
there was no other way there is no other way because we are doomed
32:20
when adam and eve sinned we were separated there was a big chasm
32:27
and there's no bridge in the gap because the blood of goats and bulls cannot take away the sins so somebody had to die
32:34
and that somebody was jesus so god the son took upon a human nature and
32:40
died touching his human nature to restore our fellowship with god
32:46
so that was the only way there was no other way because he became the lamb of god that took away the sins of the world
32:53
so his blood was sufficient and was worthy to do what to expect and to appreciate
33:01
for our sins that's the only way so there is no other way there's no other alternative you can't
33:07
islam won't work buddhism won't work positivism won't work nothing that you
33:14
do works because your works are as filthy as filthy rags you already separated from
33:19
god so how can you breach the god there is no bridging that god but by jesus
33:26
so the writer was telling his audience listen you want to go back to the old system
33:31
it is weak it can't help you you won't find any salvation in that because your sins are still hanging on
33:37
to you if you want to hang on to that all he does was make you
33:43
externally clean he doesn't take away the sins your conscience is still guilty so why are you going back to that
33:49
when jesus christ shed his blood for you that's the only way
33:54
so the heavenly uh tabernacle had to be cleansed by what by the blood of christ our access back there to the heavenly
34:02
place was only possible because of jesus after making purification for sins now
34:08
he created a way for us to go back to the father now we have access into the holy of holies because of jesus
34:14
there's no other way i'm hoping that my me repeating this this is like making sense to you because
34:20
i want you to really get it because there is no other way and this is the good news that we have
34:26
in jesus so for us to keep it to ourselves is not good we need to proclaim it everywhere we go because this is the truth
34:32
and it's been factually um reliable we have evidence for it
34:37
so why do we stay quiet sometimes we have fear because we we don't want to be seen as being judgmental because we're saying
34:44
that this exclusivity in the blood of christ because without it you have no salvation
34:49
we don't want to say that to people because we don't want to hurt their feelings we think now we need to tell him the truth no
34:55
matter what it cost let's continue
35:01
verse 24 for christ has entered not into holy places made with hands
35:07
which are copies of the true things but into heaven itself now to appear in the presence of god on
35:14
our behalf was the observation see the reason why the new covenant and the
35:19
death of christ were necessary is because he entered into the true sanctuary of god on behalf of the human
35:26
race see mankind was doomed helpless hopeless and desperately needed a
35:33
representative because the first man adam disobeyed god and caused the death of
35:40
the entire human race he didn't have to do it but jesus did it voluntarily to
35:46
demonstrate the love of god you see the scripture tells us how god demonstrated
35:51
his love to us in first john while we were still sinners what happened jesus christ died
35:58
for us this is how god demonstrated his love you want to know about you people i
36:03
don't know if god really loves me oh i don't know you want to know while i was still a sinner jesus christ
36:10
died for me while you are still a sinner jesus christ died for you so don't
36:16
question the love of god because he demonstrated it there's no other proof you want to know if god loves you look
36:22
at jesus that's that's simple see christ entered into the holy places
36:28
not made with hands okay he didn't that's not where he entered he went he entered into heaven itself on
36:35
our behalf for us he didn't have to do it for us he could god could i be like i don't have
36:41
to deal with his humans why but god did it to show his love and to show that he
36:46
truly loves his creation okay for his name's sake for the glory
36:51
of his name jesus christ took upon our human nature and then died on our behalf
36:58
and we are forever thankful and verse 25-28
37:07
why did he do it the scripture says nor was it to offer himself repeatedly as the high priest enters the holy
37:14
places every year with blood not his own for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the
37:20
world but as it is he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself
37:28
and just as it is appointed for men to die once and after that comes judgment so christ
37:33
having been offered once to bear the sins of many will appear a second time not not to deal with sin but to save
37:40
those who are eagerly waiting for him what's the observation here see in the last verses of chapter nine
37:47
uh the author shows the weakness of the old covenant and its regulation see the
37:52
high priest honor errands they used the blood of goats and were only allowed to enter the holy of holies
37:58
once a year and this process had to be repeated every year they had to do the same thing
38:04
why because of his weakness and his inability to take away sins to
38:10
blood out sin it only served as a temporary remedy and we talked about it but when jesus braved his last
38:17
and then when he said it is finished which means that god's wrath is now against men was not satisfied and the
38:23
sins of the people were washed away the veil in the temple was do what happened it was torn from top to bottom
38:31
and then thus giving us access symbolically on earth to anyone who put their trust in jesus so the writer's
38:37
argument here is that jesus blood is so worthy that he only had to offer himself how many times once
38:45
you see that he's comparing one time to repeated sacrifices that did nothing
38:52
see when jesus did it the veil was torn god said yes i'm satisfied you don't
38:58
have to do it again but for the gods and the bulls eh every year the high priest had to go into the
39:05
holy of holies once a year that means god even made provision for only once a year because he was showing that this
39:11
could not really take away sins so even the earthly tabernacle which was a copy
39:17
of the heavenly it communicates that truth that the blood of gods and and and and
39:24
and lambs although offered repeatedly could not take away since because we talked about it from the
39:30
beginning that people's conscience were not clear see so
39:35
what he's saying is that jesus blood is so worthy that he only had to offer himself once the levites couldn't even
39:42
come close to this first because they couldn't offer their blood because it was defined right
39:48
and then they had to use animals blood which could only be used temporarily
39:54
so he finishes this chapter with some strong words basically he's saying to his readers listen
40:00
there is no middle ground and i i've already mentioned that earlier jesus appeared to take away sins by his
40:07
death then he ministers now in the heavenly places and he's going to come a second
40:13
time to save those who are what who are eagerly waiting for him so we only have one shot at this that's
40:20
what he's saying remember the story of the rich man lazarus and the beggar see lazarus when he died
40:26
he asked for a second chance and guess what it was too late
40:31
so i just want i just wanted to remind you of that and the writer is saying the same thing don't wait
40:36
you don't know when you're gonna die so if these words they are speaking to you
40:42
i pray that it speaks to you that the holy spirit himself uses this word
40:48
to convict you to convict you onto repentance and to say thank you jesus what you've done and
40:53
i receive it with grace see blessed are those who mourn for
40:58
their sins the kingdom of heaven we've done a poor job at preaching the
41:04
gospel in our churches we make the gospel about some kind of invitation oh if you receive jesus today
41:11
you make your life great no no no damnation for the wrath of god is coming
41:17
and there's no other way you have to know the bad news before you understand that this is good news
41:22
it's not optional that's the only thing that we have there's no other way to be saved but
41:29
but by jesus he's the way the truth and the life so what am i saying to you are you have
41:34
you made that decision yet is the holy spirit speaking to you right now don't wait
41:42
people are dying i just learned just now that virgil hablo one of the guys that there's these
41:47
sneakers called of what just died of cancer everybody's shocked
41:54
they're shocked now my question is did he know jesus before he died
41:59
see i don't care how many shoes he made how famous he is because that wouldn't matter the scripture tells us what good
42:05
reason to get in the whole world and lose your soul i hope that he knows jesus i'm praying i mean i don't know i don't know his
42:11
soul because if he died in his sins guess where he's going to hell
42:18
an eternal wrath so what did the off-white serve nothing
42:24
so this is these are true words and the scriptures right before us so have you received this offer of forgiveness
42:30
through the blood of christ or are you still waiting thinking i have time you may not have time
42:36
because if you don't receive it you're going to be eternally damned and we're not talking one day two days
42:42
in hell eternality and these are true words
42:48
see people think oh you're trying to put fear into people yes i am why not because this is real
42:55
the wrath of god is not a joke god has given us room to repent so why do we wait we don't know what we're
43:00
going to brave our last so i hope you receive this with uh grace
43:06
and that the holy spirit again uses these words to speak to you have a wonderful day and i'll see you next time thank you
