Welcome back to our study of the book of Hebrews, today we’ll be looking at Hebrews 6:9-12. It’s important to constantly recall the background to this letter in order to properly interpret the Scriptures. The writer was writing to Jewish believers who were undergoing severe persecution as a result of their belief in Jesus. Many were being tempted to go back to Judaism to avoid the current persecution. After giving his readers a strong warning about the dangers of spiritual immaturity- falling away and a rejection of the perfect for the imperfect. The writer is now shifting gear and writes to encourage his readers.

hello good morning and uh welcome back
0:02
to our study of the book of hebrews
0:04
today we're going to continue with
0:05
chapter 6 and we're going to look at
0:07
verses 9 and 12.
0:09
and uh
0:10
i want to recall what we've already
0:12
talked about now before we get into it
0:14
it's important to recall on the
0:16
background to this letter excuse me
0:20
because if we don't recall the
0:21
background it's hard to like interpret
0:23
the scriptures and to properly
0:24
understand um what is going on
0:27
so
0:28
the writer of the letter of hebrews who
0:30
i believe is paul again that's what i
0:32
believe i'm i'm not sure if it's part
0:34
but i think it is paul because the way
0:36
he writes is consistent with paul's uh
0:39
letters
0:40
so he was addressing jewish believers
0:43
and those people were going through a
0:45
severe persecution
0:47
and that's because they believe in in
0:49
the word of god in jesus and many were
0:51
being tempted to go back to the old ways
0:54
and to judaism
0:56
because they wanted to avoid the current
0:58
persecution
0:59
so
1:00
we saw last week that the writer has
1:02
been giving his readers and warnings
1:04
about spiritual immaturity because he
1:07
told them that listen at this time you
1:09
guys need to know
1:11
about certain things certain basic
1:13
things about the doctrine of jesus and
1:15
he talked about repentance from dead
1:17
works and faithful to god and then
1:19
baptism and washings and then eternal
1:21
damnation and also he talked about the
1:24
resurrection he said at this point you
1:26
guys have been believers for a while so
1:28
those things should be the basics your
1:30
abc's you need to know this if you don't
1:32
know this and there are consequences and
1:34
we talked about the dangers of our
1:36
spiritual immaturity and some of the
1:38
dangers those people were facing was
1:40
falling away
1:42
and a rejection of the perfect for the
1:44
imperfect so since the beginning he's
1:46
been proving that jesus is indeed on the
1:48
son of god and he's also proved that
1:50
jesus is a greater high priest in the
1:52
order of melchizedek
1:54
now he wanted to talk to his audience
1:56
about melchizedek because melchizedek
1:59
priesthood was far higher than the
2:01
levitical priesthood so he wanted to
2:04
tell them about it but unfortunately
2:06
some of them were still at the level of
2:08
an infant in christ so he talked to them
2:10
he said listen you guys need to stop
2:12
because spiritual immaturity is not
2:14
without consequences and the
2:16
consequences are falling away because
2:19
when you you are spiritually immature
2:22
you don't have a strong foundation and
2:24
we looked at uh
2:26
the parable of the soil and we talked
2:28
about how those that don't have strong
2:31
roots can fall away because they believe
2:33
for a while and in terms of persecution
2:35
they may fall away as a result of their
2:37
lack of
2:39
foundation so now
2:41
at this time you can imagine that his
2:43
readers are like frightened they're
2:45
probably questioning their own uh
2:46
salvation maybe they're saying am i not
2:49
saved what's going on yeah am i falling
2:51
away
2:52
what's going on so there is fear
2:54
probably okay so now the right is going
2:56
to shift gear and i is going to write to
2:59
encourage his uh reader so we're going
3:01
to look at um verses 9 to 12 today we're
3:04
going to see how he encouraged his
3:06
readers because it is important for us
3:08
because we all
3:10
have times where we grow weary and we
3:13
we may face persecution and we need to
3:16
see how the writer dealt with it so we
3:18
can also encourage one another so i'm
3:20
going to read verses 9 through 12 and
3:23
again i'm reading from the esv version
3:25
and then after that we are going to look
3:26
at the verse the verses one at a time
3:29
so now listen to what he says
3:31
though we speak in this way
3:34
yet
3:35
in your case beloved we feel sure of
3:39
better things
3:41
things that belong to salvation
3:44
for god is not unjust
3:47
so as to overlook your work
3:49
and the love that you have shown for his
3:51
name in serving the saints as you still
3:54
do
3:55
and we desire each one of you to show
3:58
the same earnestness to have the full
4:01
assurance of hope
4:03
until the end
4:04
so that you may not be sluggish
4:07
but imitators of those who through faith
4:10
and patience
4:11
inherit
4:12
the promises
4:14
so this is the word of god and now let's
4:17
get into it
4:19
so the first set of verses we're going
4:21
to look at are verses 9 through 10.
4:23
so i'm going to read those again
4:25
the writer says though we speak in this
4:27
way
4:28
yet in your case beloved we feel sure of
4:31
better things
4:32
things that belong to salvation for god
4:35
is not unjust so as to overlook your
4:37
work and the love that you have shown
4:40
for his name in serving the saints as
4:42
you still do
4:44
again
4:45
it's important to recall the background
4:47
to this letter
4:48
to um interpret the scriptures okay
4:52
these are people that are going through
4:53
persecution
4:54
and they are like being tempted to go
4:56
back to judaism because that's more
4:58
comfortable for them and that's because
5:01
if they go back then they won't be
5:02
persecuted so a time of testing have a
5:05
way of like showing what's inside of us
5:07
so they want to go back to goes listen i
5:09
can't i can't put up with this
5:10
persecution so i want to go back to the
5:12
old way because that way the persecution
5:15
will stop so that's like an easy cop-out
5:18
so the writer like if we say
5:20
he issues a strong warning about the
5:23
dangers of spiritual immaturity because
5:25
some of them were spiritually immature
5:27
they didn't have strong roots they
5:28
didn't have their abcs
5:31
in place yet so when that happens it's
5:34
easy to fall away because you don't have
5:36
a strong foundation
5:38
so this is what was happening so he
5:40
tells them listen
5:41
you guys are in danger of falling away
5:44
okay and i'm sure by this time like i
5:46
said in the introduction that they were
5:48
probably frightened so now he's to shift
5:51
gear
5:52
and he writes to encourage his uh
5:54
readers
5:55
okay we talked about the elements of
5:57
spiritual immaturity which is um
5:59
basically not knowing the basics of the
6:02
the doctrine of christ we just talked
6:03
about that so now he's saying to them
6:05
that
6:06
even though
6:07
i might have frightened you with my
6:09
words
6:10
okay i'm very confident that your
6:12
salvation is genuine and as a result is
6:15
going to continue to be evident because
6:18
it will be characterized
6:20
with things that accompany salvation i.e
6:23
like things that go hand in hand with
6:25
salvation uh things that have like a
6:27
symbiotic relationship with salvation
6:30
mainly your sanctification and the
6:32
fruits of the spirit so listen he's
6:34
telling his readers listen
6:36
i know what i've told you earlier i know
6:38
that i've said you may fall away and if
6:41
if if you fall away there's no going
6:43
back to repentance because in your state
6:45
of being falling away you are again
6:48
crucifying christ
6:49
and putting him to public shame but
6:52
i imagine being a listener and reading
6:55
those words in a letter so the tendency
6:57
is to be frightened and to go whoa maybe
6:59
i'm i'm i'm not a true christian maybe
7:02
i'm
7:02
maybe i'm not even saved
7:05
but then he goes back and says listen i
7:07
know what i've said to you but in your
7:09
case beloved i feel sure of better
7:12
things things that accompany salvation
7:15
things that go hand in hand with
7:17
salvation meaning the fruits of the
7:20
spirit he's saying for example for you
7:23
i know that i may have said those things
7:25
but i'm sure of better things i'm sure
7:28
that you are truly saved and is going to
7:30
show because there's going to be the
7:32
fruit of the spirit and god is going to
7:33
sanctify you now he's stretching you and
7:35
now i'm sure i have your attention now
7:38
that i've said those things i know that
7:40
now i have your undivided attention and
7:42
as a result i know that uh i'm going to
7:45
exalt you and i'm going to encourage you
7:47
because the things that are going to
7:48
happen now are going to be things that
7:50
are going to follow salvation
7:52
which is your sanctification okay
7:55
so
7:56
basically uh in the next verse
7:59
which is the next one in verse 10 he
8:01
goes for god is not unjust so as to
8:04
overlook your work and the love that you
8:06
have shown for his name in serving the
8:08
saint as you still do
8:10
so it seems as if uh the writer is
8:13
suggesting that he's suggesting that his
8:15
readers will be recompensed by god
8:17
because of their law for him and the
8:19
things that they have been doing
8:21
to have advanced the kingdom that's what
8:23
it seems like he goes listen i know i'm
8:26
sure of better things for you because
8:28
god is not unjust has to overlook what
8:30
you've done for him
8:32
but that's not the case because it is
8:35
god himself who authenticates us because
8:38
he started to work in the first place
8:40
according to philippians 2 13 the
8:42
scripture says for it is god himself who
8:45
works in you both to will and act
8:48
according to his good purpose so god's
8:51
not unjust to forget the love and hard
8:53
work that the people have done
8:55
and i've shown him
8:57
because his spirit is the one
9:00
working in them to that end because
9:03
because god started the work
9:05
is not unjust because he's going to
9:07
finish where he started so basically uh
9:10
it seems as if like uh
9:12
it's a little hard to explain because on
9:14
the one hand
9:15
we have to be responsible for the things
9:17
that we do but on the other hand uh it
9:20
is god who enables us to work for him
9:24
okay it is god who initiates the faith
9:26
it is god who wields it in us and he's
9:28
god who does the work so again it's like
9:30
two to like it's like
9:32
a simultaneous at the same in the same
9:34
way we have to be responsible but it is
9:37
god ultimately
9:38
through his grace who enables us to work
9:41
on his behalf by his spirit so this is
9:43
why god is not unjust as to overlook
9:46
their work and the lord that they've
9:48
shown him because it is him who plants
9:50
those desires and he continues to plant
9:52
those dessert until the end
9:54
so for example to truly understand like
9:57
both both of these verses i want to look
9:58
at the life of peter and his instance
10:01
okay he denied jesus three times on
10:04
three occasions okay and he surely
10:06
denied the faith and and indirectly he
10:09
crucified jesus as well so he knew the
10:12
truth okay peter knew the truth he had
10:14
been with jesus for three years he
10:16
tasted the holy spirit because
10:18
uh he actually was one of those who also
10:20
casted out demons and stuff like that so
10:22
he did all those things but
10:24
his fear of the persecution led him
10:28
to turn away from jesus okay he was
10:30
still spiritually immature after even
10:32
after three years of being with jesus
10:34
there's still uh immaturity to some
10:36
extent because he denied the faith and
10:39
even after those three years spent with
10:41
jesus
10:42
but guess what happened he was restored
10:45
by jesus after the resurrection
10:47
and though peter fall away he was
10:49
restored so we can take some kind of uh
10:52
relief in that like hope that even when
10:54
we having
10:55
we are in a situation like that god is
10:58
able to restore his children like so
11:00
peter had shown on several occasions his
11:03
zeal for the lord again and yet at the
11:06
most pivotal moment
11:08
he fell away just like the other 11 10
11:12
disciples that were there judas already
11:14
we know about judas
11:16
okay but the fall in the way of peter
11:18
was
11:19
temporal it wasn't
11:21
going to be like that it wasn't going to
11:23
be lasting it was temporal because jesus
11:25
restored peter after and the
11:27
resurrection and jesus also restored the
11:30
other disciples that also fell away they
11:31
ran away from him okay and they were
11:33
strengthened and gained um boldness
11:36
through the spirit to serve god in the
11:38
same way the writer of the book of uh
11:41
hebrews he's telling his readers listen
11:43
i know what i've said about you i know
11:45
what i said
11:46
but
11:47
i know that for you there are going to
11:49
be better thing because i'm going to now
11:51
encourage you and exalt you to better
11:53
things because i know that it is god
11:55
himself who started to work and god is
11:58
not unjust asked to forget what you've
12:00
shown him the lord that you've shown in
12:02
the work that you've done and you still
12:04
do because it is god's spirit who still
12:06
works in you so god is faithful to his
12:08
word and whatever he started in you he
12:10
would take it to full completion
12:13
so basically uh he's he's
12:16
encouraging his readers because they are
12:18
the one that have truly entered the rest
12:20
of god which we talked about in earlier
12:22
chapters in chapter three and four we
12:24
talked about the rest of god so
12:26
again this is like a way to tell them
12:29
about godly sorrows because godly
12:31
sorrows as we know lead to repentance so
12:35
he's writing here to lead them to
12:36
repentance he's not saying it's not he's
12:38
not leaving them hopeless or condemned
12:41
okay so that's that's that's uh there's
12:43
like two things
12:44
condemnation gives no
12:47
hope but conviction
12:49
leads you to repentance
12:51
and that repentance leads you to
12:54
a better sanctification okay
12:57
so in this way the writer when he writes
12:59
to his readers he's leading them to
13:01
repentance godly sorrows because they
13:04
have fallen away and some of them were
13:07
pretty much
13:09
i've turned away from christ he's
13:11
telling them listen
13:12
don't do that
13:14
if you have ears to hear hear what i
13:16
have to say to you and though some of
13:18
those people probably heard it and were
13:19
like you know what i don't even care but
13:21
those that god has chosen
13:23
these words will resonate within their
13:25
ears and they will change and there will
13:27
be repentance because it's gonna cause
13:30
godly sorrows so that's what he's saying
13:32
here
13:33
now we're going to jump on to verses 11
13:35
and 12. now listen to the scripture
13:37
and he goes and we desire each one of
13:40
you to show the same earnestness to have
13:42
the full assurance of hope until the end
13:46
so that you may not be sluggish
13:48
but imitators of those who through faith
13:50
and patience inherit the promises
13:53
so what are we told here
13:56
see the people were probably growing
13:58
like wary okay tired and overwhelmed by
14:01
the persecution and trials they were
14:03
facing
14:04
so the temptation to go back to the old
14:07
system was always always working around
14:10
it was always in the back of their head
14:12
okay you know it's easy to grow weary
14:13
like when you go through
14:15
life and and you read the scripture you
14:17
see how
14:19
god promises um us uh eternal life and
14:22
he promises that he will be with us but
14:24
sometimes he feels as if where is god
14:27
in the process what is god i'm tired you
14:29
know why do i have to go through this i
14:31
just want to go back to what is
14:32
comfortable so they wanted to go back to
14:34
what was comfortable but he said to them
14:36
listen
14:38
i want you i decide that each one of you
14:41
shows the same earnestness don't grow
14:43
weary i like the way this verse is
14:45
reading uh the niv translation i'm gonna
14:48
read that to you listen to how the niv
14:50
translation reads this
14:52
we want each of you
14:54
to show
14:56
the same
14:57
diligence to the very end so that what
15:00
you hope for
15:01
may be fully realized
15:03
so
15:04
uh
15:05
so the writer is basically telling his
15:07
readers to not grow weary
15:09
but to show the same earnestness and
15:11
zeal they had in the beginning until the
15:13
end
15:14
why in order that they may obtain the
15:17
goal of their faith which is the
15:18
salvation of their souls okay what they
15:20
hope and and what we hope for is our
15:23
ultimate deliverance from this body of
15:26
death
15:26
we've been trapped in you know you know
15:28
i don't know about you but there are
15:29
many days where i feel like lord i can't
15:32
take it anymore
15:33
and i was actually talking to one of my
15:35
uh our friend in church the other day
15:38
and and it's easy to to to like think uh
15:41
you are sanctified and you really love
15:43
god like i remember a couple of weeks
15:45
ago we were at church
15:46
and we had um
15:48
um
15:49
communion
15:50
and the day we have communion church
15:52
seems to be a little longer
15:55
and in my mind i'm complaining i'm not
15:56
ah we have communion today ah man that's
15:59
that means that we're gonna have more
16:01
time in church
16:03
and i have to catch myself and go what's
16:05
wrong with me
16:07
like
16:08
this is supposed to be a time where i'm
16:10
like longing
16:12
for for to know what god has done for me
16:14
in jesus but why am i feeling this way
16:16
is because of
16:18
the sinful nature
16:19
there's still that battle so my hope is
16:22
that i can't wait to be clothed with the
16:25
perfect i can't wait to have a body in
16:28
which i can no longer sin
16:30
because the temptation is always here
16:32
like whenever you think oh man i've made
16:35
i'm man i've grown spiritually
16:37
that's a dangerous place to be because
16:39
pride can settle in and this is when you
16:41
can easily fall so
16:44
we have to constantly
16:46
come under the like the holy spirit's
16:48
power because without him we can do
16:50
nothing jesus said it
16:51
apart from me you can do nothing
16:54
so
16:55
the hope that we have and the hope that
16:57
the writer is telling his readers is
16:59
listen you know what you hope for okay
17:01
keep working towards that goal keep
17:04
working don't lose your fervor now don't
17:07
grow weary now because you are right
17:09
there continue to show the same
17:10
diligence to the end because it is the
17:12
spirit of god himself who works in you
17:15
and i want you to continue to move
17:16
forward if you go to romans 8 verse 22
17:20
to 25 we read on the following because
17:23
it redefines the hope that the writer is
17:26
mentioning and i think it's important to
17:28
bring it up listen to the scripture
17:30
we know that the whole creation has been
17:32
groaning as in the pains of child birth
17:36
right up to the present time
17:38
not only so but we ourselves will have
17:40
the first fruit of the spirit
17:43
grown inwardly as we eagerly await
17:46
we eagerly
17:48
we wait eagerly for our adoption to
17:50
sonship
17:52
the redemption of our bodies
17:54
for in this hope
17:56
we were saved but hope that is sin is no
17:59
hope at all with hopes of what they
18:01
already have
18:02
but if we hope for what we do not yet
18:04
have
18:05
we wait for it patiently
18:07
so basically the writer is saying to his
18:09
readers the evidence of your faith will
18:12
be determined by your endurance until
18:14
the end your long suffering it is not
18:17
how someone starts but it is rather how
18:20
their faith is sustained until the end
18:22
so he's insane here like you have to be
18:24
self-determined like this is not like
18:26
self-willer i'm gonna do this today and
18:28
i'm gonna try to listen i'm gonna try
18:30
and follow god that's not something you
18:32
can do
18:33
because it is the spirit of god himself
18:35
who works in you
18:36
so basically the writer is saying to
18:38
them listen your genuine faith will be
18:41
tested by your endurance you'll get to
18:43
the end and this is the work of the
18:44
spirit of god and we enables you and we
18:47
enables all believers to endure till the
18:50
end so do not grow weary because your
18:52
endurance your patience is being tested
18:55
we read in james chapter one what did
18:57
you say consider the pure joy whenever
19:00
you face trials of many kind because the
19:03
testing of your faith produces what
19:06
patience and let patience run its course
19:08
so that you may be mature and complete
19:11
lacking in nothing so basically this is
19:13
the same thing the writer is saying to
19:15
these readers here show your the same
19:17
earnestness to the end that's what we
19:19
want so that you may not be sluggish
19:22
but emitted those who through faith and
19:24
patience inherit the promises now paul
19:27
said it best when he say that i worked
19:29
harder than all the other apostles yet
19:32
not i but the grace of god in me if you
19:35
go to first corinthians 15 listen to
19:37
what paul says in first corinthians 15
19:39
verse 9 to 10
19:40
for i am the least of the apostles
19:43
unworthy to be called an apostle
19:46
because i persecuted the church of god
19:49
but by the grace of god i am what i am
19:52
and his grace toward me was not in vain
19:55
on the contrary i worked harder than any
19:59
of them though it was not i but the
20:02
grace of god that is with me so paul
20:06
understands that his work and his desire
20:08
to show the same earnestness to have the
20:10
full assurance of hope until the end
20:12
even though he's the one doing the work
20:14
he understands that it has been made
20:16
possible
20:17
by the spirit of god it is the spirit of
20:20
god who does all the work so these words
20:22
are meant to tell their readers and to
20:24
tell the readers and to tell us today
20:27
listen don't grow weary depend on the
20:29
spirit of god keep going back to the
20:31
source because the scripture says when
20:33
we believe in him
20:35
rivers of living water will flow out of
20:37
us that's the spirit of god it is the
20:40
spirit of god who gives us that
20:41
earnestness it is the spirit of god
20:43
which gives us the desire to be to not
20:45
be sluggish it is the spirit of god who
20:47
enables us not enough to not fall away
20:50
so this is the call to depend on the
20:52
holy spirit it's a call to to reassess
20:54
where we are in our lives and say lord
20:56
where am i today am i following am i
20:59
enduring or am i growing worry and is
21:02
there stagnation in my life so he's
21:05
telling his readers please
21:08
wake up
21:09
and then in verse 12
21:11
we just read it
21:13
um
21:14
he's saying here like resting in god
21:16
doesn't mean laziness or stagnation
21:19
and we already talked about the dangers
21:21
of idleness and consequences of
21:24
spiritual immaturity we've been talking
21:25
about since chapter six now since the
21:28
beginning of this letter he's been
21:30
warning his readers against drifting
21:32
from the world neglecting this great
21:34
salvation god worked through jesus
21:38
and now he's telling them
21:39
he's giving them an exhortation and he's
21:42
saying
21:42
imitate your predecessors okay imitate
21:45
those who are before you the older and
21:47
the other sent because they exuded the
21:49
kind of faith that is typical of the
21:52
children of god those are the one who
21:55
inherited the promises of god and in the
21:57
next verses which we're going to look at
21:59
next week
22:00
is going to give them the example of
22:02
abraham who demonstrated the kind of
22:04
faith and endurance and patience the
22:06
writer is mentioning so in chapter 2 we
22:09
talked about the multi purpose of our
22:11
salvation because one day okay we will
22:15
reign with jesus christ okay because he
22:17
came to restore the mandate that god has
22:19
given to mankind in the beginning to
22:21
have dominion over all this creation so
22:24
we talked about that in chapter two but
22:26
right now
22:27
this isn't the case because we are
22:29
subjected to what suffering
22:31
pain
22:32
death
22:33
persecution and all these things might
22:35
have made like
22:36
the people that he was talking to the
22:38
jewish believers doubt the promises of
22:40
god so in the next verses uh which we're
22:42
going to look at next week he's going to
22:45
show abraham example and he um basically
22:48
showed the kind of patience and
22:49
endurance and faith that pleases god
22:53
so what am i going to say in conclusion
22:54
here in conclusion all we can say is
22:56
this
22:57
i don't know what you're going through
22:58
today and i don't know what your
23:00
spiritual maturity is like i don't know
23:03
you and a lot of you guys if you're
23:05
watching this i don't know maybe maybe
23:07
you know me maybe i don't know but
23:10
the exhortation is to keep moving
23:12
but this is not possible in our own
23:15
strength we have to depend on the spirit
23:17
of god so the call really is to go back
23:20
and to say to the lord i am weak but you
23:22
are strong
23:23
so please help me because god said
23:25
somewhere
23:26
and when paul asked him to take away the
23:28
thorn in his side in his flesh he said
23:31
my grace is sufficient for you i think
23:33
it's in ii corinthians 12 9
23:35
for my power is made perfect in your
23:37
weakness so when we are weak this is the
23:40
best place to be in our weakness that's
23:42
when we find strength in god
23:44
this is why persecutions have a way and
23:47
in trials of life have a way of growing
23:50
us because in those moments that's when
23:52
we see the grace of god at work the best
23:55
when everything is comfortable you don't
23:57
feel like well i don't need god why do i
23:58
need god so he has to really stretch us
24:02
so
24:02
but in the stretching
24:05
some people fall away and they're
24:07
stretching uh we are sifted and the true
24:11
christians are gonna come to the surface
24:13
okay and those that are not really saved
24:15
or those that are still immature we also
24:18
made evidence so
24:19
the the persecution and the trials are
24:21
meant to really um um pretty much
24:25
filter the church
24:27
and then and it stretches so
24:29
the spiritual immaturity is something
24:31
that is pretty rampant in our societies
24:33
today if you go to many churches
24:36
the level of immaturity is at an
24:39
all-time high but i will also say that
24:41
this is this has been a good time
24:43
because a lot of people have also grown
24:44
deeper
24:46
in their commitment to to serve the on
24:48
the gospel
24:49
so
24:50
i don't want to be those who always
24:53
find something negative to say about the
24:54
church any state but i believe these
24:57
times have really
24:59
confirmed and also
25:01
um tested on the entire church since
25:03
kobe started it's been like a
25:05
a shift
25:07
okay if you look at the main churches
25:08
like there's been like the global like a
25:11
lot of the churches have been really
25:12
tested and and somehow fell away and and
25:15
some have stood the test but even if
25:18
you're one of those who have capitulated
25:19
and i've kind of given giving in to the
25:21
temptation to to just
25:23
be um stagnant and and
25:27
pretty much idle i would say
25:30
uh if these words of from the the right
25:32
of on the hebrews are touching your
25:34
heart and it's not too late to restart
25:36
because god is waiting
25:38
and then and when i say wait and i'm not
25:40
saying god is like oh yeah come no
25:42
because you have to without without
25:45
truly mourning over your sins you cannot
25:47
understand the grace of god because
25:50
the scripture says blessed are those who
25:52
mourn for they are the one that will
25:54
receive comfort if you don't mourn over
25:56
your sin if you're not shameful
25:58
of what you've done in the things that
26:00
you've done
26:01
then
26:02
you won't understand
26:04
the grace of god
26:06
because
26:07
it would be something superficial it'd
26:09
be something just easy believism so we
26:11
have to get to the place worth
26:12
understanding that we've offended god
26:14
that sin in god's sight is ugly he hates
26:17
it
26:18
in whatever form it is he hates it and
26:20
he's infinitely
26:22
uh he hits it
26:26
infinitely he's not like saying well
26:27
it's okay like god is not like your
26:29
cosmic mr rogers or he's not like uh
26:32
santa claus that's like oh your granddad
26:34
who's like nice and that
26:36
he's a holy god
26:38
only in two ways he's holy because he's
26:40
in a category of himself there's not
26:42
like god
26:43
he is he's a self-existent self-existent
26:46
one
26:46
okay and not only that but he's also
26:48
morally pure so
26:50
in within him there is no darkness at
26:52
all we read that in first chapter first
26:54
john chapter one
26:56
he says god is light in him there is no
26:58
darkness at all
27:00
so
27:01
we have to take sin very seriously
27:03
because he hates it so if these words
27:05
are like talking to you this morning i
27:07
would encourage you to repent
27:09
following your knees following your face
27:11
before a holy god and realize that what
27:12
you've done have offended him
27:15
all right so next week we're gonna talk
27:17
about abraham
27:19
and the promise that he received from
27:21
god and how that ties into this passage
27:23
today okay so have a wonderful day and
27:26
i'll see you next week god willing thank
27:29
you
