We have to always remember that when the author was penning down his letter under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, there was no chapter division. Chapter 12 mostly dealt with how God treats those He calls his sons and daughters, the discipline of the Lord, which is meant to lead us to share in his Holiness. Chapter 11 dealt with the concept of faith, and in chapter 12, the writer basically showed us and the original readers how God works in our lives to bring about the Faith that pleases Him. Today we’ll begin Hebrews 13. The writer’s thought patterns continues in this chapter with more exhortations and reminders.

hello good morning and today is uh
0:03
thursday june the 9th
0:05
and uh welcome back to our study of the
0:08
book of hebrews we are going to begin
0:10
chapter 13 today
0:12
and then we are gonna look at verses one
0:14
through six
0:15
so basically before i start i just
0:16
wanted to give you a quick um rundown of
0:19
what we talked about last week
0:21
again uh when we do these studies
0:24
especially the book of hebrews when the
0:27
writer
0:28
and i suspect he's the apostle paul but
0:30
i may be wrong i'm just saying i suspect
0:32
because the writing is kind of similar
0:34
to his writing we don't know the author
0:36
but when he was writing the letter we
0:38
have to remember there was no chapter
0:40
division it wasn't like he goes this is
0:42
chapter one chapter two there was a
0:44
something that he was conveying today on
0:47
the audience in this case hebrew
0:49
believers and his strain of thought
0:51
never ceased it was one thing to the
0:53
next thing so to help us today we have
0:55
the chapter division so originally the
0:58
scriptures were not written like that
1:00
the epistles were not written in
1:02
chapters there was no chapter division
1:03
it was just
1:04
him writing and then sending that to the
1:07
to the
1:08
um hebrew church and then they had to
1:10
read it and then people had to
1:11
understand what paul was i said paul it
1:13
wasn't paul or he may have been paul but
1:16
whoever was writing that letter
1:18
um he wanted to convey something so
1:20
chapter 12 as we saw last week uh as we
1:23
ended it uh he mostly dealt with how god
1:26
treats those he calls his son and
1:28
daughters and we talk about the
1:30
discipline of god which is meant to lead
1:33
the believer and us
1:35
to share in his holiness again we have
1:37
to remember that that's key
1:39
god disciplines us for our good that we
1:42
may share in his holiness he doesn't
1:44
just do it for the sake of doing it
1:45
there's a purpose behind it okay in
1:47
chapter 11
1:48
dealt with the con the concept of faith
1:51
in chapter 12
1:52
the writer basically shows us and the
1:55
original readers how god works in our
1:57
lives to bring about the faith that he
1:59
that pleases him so that's the whole
2:01
thing chapter 11 talked about faith in
2:03
chapter 12 talked about how
2:05
faith comes about because of the
2:07
discipline of the lord he brings about
2:09
faith he brings about this attitude
2:11
attitude by which we begin to rely on
2:13
god and share in his holiness that's the
2:15
whole purpose of the gospel the gospel
2:18
we came to be saved that we might be
2:20
what the first fruit of god we might be
2:23
like his son jesus so he saved us so
2:26
that we might be made in the likeness of
2:28
his son that's the whole reason why
2:30
jesus came to die for our sins so that
2:33
we might be the righteousness of god
2:35
that we might be indwelled with the holy
2:36
spirit of god that we might be called
2:39
sons and daughters of god that we may
2:41
have the spirit of god living in us so
2:43
that we may love the things of god
2:45
that's the whole purpose god talks about
2:48
in the book of
2:49
in the old testament in ezekiel he says
2:51
he will put a new spirit in us and that
2:54
spirit he will write his laws on our
2:56
hearts and our minds that we might do
2:58
what pleases him
2:59
so jesus came to be the propitiation and
3:02
expiation for our sins so
3:04
the the writer of the book of hebrews
3:06
the entire time he has been trying to
3:08
prove that to his readers the old
3:10
covenant was meant to lead us to the new
3:13
covenant under christ so that's the
3:15
whole when he gave us the law god gave
3:17
the torah the five books of moses so
3:19
that people as they saw their depraved
3:22
condition will look to the promised
3:25
messiah because he was the abraham seed
3:28
that was promised in the old testament
3:30
and through him we have access into the
3:33
holy of holies because of his work on
3:35
the cross that's the whole pretty much
3:37
what the writer was trying to
3:38
communicate to his readers now he talked
3:40
about faith and how does faith come
3:42
about
3:43
faith comes by hearing and hearing by
3:45
the word of god but god works through
3:48
the discipline through the trials that
3:50
we face to bring about this faith now
3:52
today we're going to begin chapter 13
3:54
and chapter 13 is basically um he goes
3:57
from
3:58
teaching to like encouraging so there's
4:00
like a
4:01
there's a pattern that has continued
4:03
throughout the entire um book of hebrews
4:06
there's exaltation of reminders and then
4:07
teaching and then he exhort so i'm so
4:09
glad that god does that because he
4:11
doesn't always pound us down yes there
4:13
is conviction but the conviction comes
4:16
encouragement because god has given us
4:18
his spirit so that we might live in a
4:20
way that pleases him so the title i
4:22
think that's fitting for this uh today's
4:24
session should be how to live to please
4:26
god okay from the the book of hebrews
4:29
perspective so we're going to be looking
4:31
at chapter
4:32
13 and we're going to look at verses 1
4:34
through 6 so let me read this in the i'm
4:37
going to read this in english standard
4:39
version so the scripture says and you
4:42
can follow along on my screen
4:44
the script the scripture says let
4:47
brotherly love continue
4:49
do not
4:50
neglect to show
4:52
hospitality to strangers for thereby
4:56
some have entertained angels unawares
5:00
remember those who are in prison are
5:03
still in prison with them
5:05
and those who are mistreated since you
5:07
also are in the body let marriage be
5:11
held in honor among all and let the
5:14
marriage bad be undefiled for god will
5:18
judge the sexually immoral and
5:20
adulterous
5:21
keep your life free from love of money
5:24
and be content with what you have for he
5:27
has said
5:28
i will never leave you nor forsake you
5:32
so we can confidently say
5:34
the lord is my helper i will not fear
5:38
what can man do to me
5:41
this is the word of god
5:43
take it as such
5:45
so now let's try to unpack all this this
5:48
is a lot of stuff here okay so in verses
5:50
one
5:51
and 3 he tells us
5:53
let brotherly love continue don't
5:56
neglect to show hospitality to strangers
5:58
because by doing that some have
6:00
entertained entertained angels unawares
6:03
and to remember those who are in prison
6:05
as though they were in prison themselves
6:07
and those who are mistreated since you
6:09
are also in the body so basically
6:12
once he tells his original readers about
6:14
the discipline of god
6:15
and that discipline as we defined works
6:18
in a believer to bring about holiness
6:20
and the faith that pleases god
6:22
now he also warned them about unbelief
6:25
that's in earlier chapters chapter 6 78
6:27
you talked about unbelief and he used
6:30
esau's rejection of his inheritance as
6:32
an example now he's going to encourage
6:35
his readers again and the encouragement
6:37
we can apply that to ourselves as well
6:39
so the heart this has been like a
6:41
recurring pattern in this letter and
6:43
that reminds us of the love of god okay
6:46
so god disciplines us for our good and
6:48
doesn't always accuse us so he god is
6:51
not how to condemn you and i if you are
6:53
a child of god if you have the holy
6:54
spirit living in you then you are no
6:56
longer under condemnation but there is
6:59
conviction and that conviction is to
7:01
lead us to repent and a child of god
7:03
will listen to the voice of god because
7:05
we are keen to his voice because we are
7:08
of god
7:09
by by the holy spirit
7:12
so they
7:12
excuse me
7:14
the pattern of warning warnings and
7:16
encouragement should always make you you
7:18
and i rejoice because that shows us that
7:19
god loves you okay the scripture tells
7:22
us god disciplines the one he loves
7:26
so now the exhortation is brother
7:28
brotherly love is a must amongst
7:30
believers
7:31
and the writer
7:33
starts his exaltation with that very
7:35
word let brotherly love continue and
7:38
what does this brotherly love look like
7:40
and to find the answer we can go to
7:42
first john 5
7:44
verse 2 to 3. listen to what john says
7:47
in
7:48
the book of first john he goes
7:50
by this
7:51
we know
7:52
that we love the children of god
7:55
when we love god and obey his
7:57
commandment for this is the love of god
8:00
that we keep his commandment and his
8:03
commandments are not burdensome so
8:05
basically
8:06
the way you and i
8:09
show love to each other is by obeying
8:12
god and by by doing what places god
8:15
before
8:16
our brothers and sisters in christ so
8:18
basically the way i show you love is by
8:21
obeying the word of god and doing what
8:22
the scripture tells me to do so if i
8:24
want to if you want to show love to a
8:26
brother or sister in christ
8:28
we've misunderstood the word love
8:31
love
8:32
properly defined comes first by loving
8:34
god and doing his comment that's what
8:36
the scripture says this is how we show
8:38
that we love the children of god so the
8:40
way i show you that i love you is if i
8:42
obey god
8:43
and do what pleases god that's premium
8:46
and that's how it starts so in ancient
8:48
times um another thing that he talks
8:51
about here is hospitality okay so in
8:53
ancient times
8:55
hospitality was premium and the writer
8:57
exhorts uh his readers to show a lot of
8:59
hospitality to strangers and to drive
9:02
his point he tells them and he tells us
9:04
today that sometimes we even entertain
9:07
angels without even knowing it now this
9:10
happened in genesis 18 when the angel of
9:13
the lord accompanied by two other angels
9:16
visited abraham and i still think it
9:18
happens today
9:20
or the book of hebrews would not mention
9:21
that so that still happens this is
9:23
something that's there's still a
9:24
possibility
9:26
so basically we are told to show
9:28
hospitality now hospitality should be
9:31
um a characteristic of all believers we
9:34
need to show hospitality
9:36
and we live in a day and age where
9:38
everything is is about itself and we
9:40
don't really show hospitality in ancient
9:41
times it was premium and it needs to be
9:44
something that we practice today yes we
9:47
are not of jewish background but it
9:48
doesn't matter hospitality is something
9:50
that we are commended to do so if the
9:53
scripture says this then we have to
9:55
practice hospitality that's just what it
9:58
is
9:59
and the next thing that he talks about
10:00
is to remember those who are in prison
10:03
are still in prison with them and those
10:05
who are mistreated since you also are in
10:07
the body see
10:10
when we started this book of hebrew we
10:12
talked about the persecution a lot of
10:14
the hebrew believers were being
10:15
persecuted because some of the
10:18
traditional judaizers saw them as uh
10:22
being um i guess
10:24
what was the word i wanted to use
10:27
did they committed treason you know
10:29
because they embraced uh jesus they were
10:33
seen as being traitors
10:34
because listen the traditional judaizers
10:37
if you want to understand this you have
10:38
to go back to the book of galatians the
10:40
traditional judaizers they were saying
10:42
that to be saved you also have to be
10:44
circumcised this is they were adding to
10:47
the work of christ so as a result some
10:49
who said no
10:50
we are not going to
10:53
espouse this kind of teaching we are
10:54
being persecuted and paul was
10:56
was persecuted because
10:58
he was former formerly before his
11:00
conversion he was a traditional judaizer
11:03
and he said um that to be saved and to
11:06
be made right before god he also had to
11:08
do the works of the law now
11:11
there's a whole thing about inhalation
11:13
so i want you to read that so basically
11:15
those traditional judaizers were
11:17
persecuting the jewish convert so it was
11:19
a time of persecution and some of the
11:21
brothers and sisters had been put in
11:23
prison some of them were being put in
11:24
prison and paul actually was
11:26
participating in that before his
11:27
conversion
11:28
so the writer is now saying to his
11:30
readers
11:31
continue to show your solidarity to
11:33
those who are in prison because you want
11:35
to identify with them don't be ashamed
11:38
of them and paul even tells us in one of
11:40
his letters that uh on the sephiroth was
11:43
not was not ashamed of his bonds paul
11:45
was in prison and somehow deserted power
11:47
because they were ashamed of it but
11:50
as believers we are told when someone is
11:52
put in prison because of the work of
11:55
because of the the name of jesus we
11:57
should be willing to identify with them
11:59
now isn't it prison is that is not just
12:02
the only thing it could be shame it
12:04
could be
12:05
somebody being persecuted because of the
12:06
name of jesus we have to identify with
12:08
these people we don't have to be ashamed
12:10
of that because this is how we show our
12:12
solidarity now we live in a day and age
12:15
where
12:16
the woke church has pretty much poisoned
12:19
a lot of our churches and now people get
12:22
so funny and they can't even talk about
12:24
the word of god boldly they have to
12:26
always play this game of trying to be
12:28
nice and trying to be uh i don't even
12:30
know what word to use so that's not what
12:33
we are told to do yes i don't mind if
12:35
i'm being
12:36
persecuted because of the name of christ
12:38
because of righteousness that's okay i
12:41
don't care if i'm being bullied or you
12:44
know your job as a believer is to
12:46
identify with those who have been
12:47
bullied and were being thrown in prison
12:50
for the name of christ if they're doing
12:52
it the right way
12:53
now i'm not saying you can go out there
12:54
and just being a big rude and stuff like
12:57
that and expect people to to show
12:59
solidarity now in this case it was a
13:01
persecution because these people had
13:04
made the resolution that they were not
13:06
going to to to um
13:09
to espouse
13:10
a salvation by works
13:13
so i think it was the primary objective
13:16
so they were being persecuted so
13:18
basically how do you show solidarity he
13:20
was telling them you should visit them
13:22
you can visit them you can intercede for
13:24
them and more importantly
13:26
don't give up your profession of faith
13:29
just because somebody's thrown in jail
13:30
just because somebody's suffering
13:31
doesn't mean that we get afraid and we
13:34
begin to like oh no i don't want to do
13:35
this christian thing anymore so the
13:36
writer was telling them listen
13:38
identify with them all the way don't be
13:40
ashamed of their bonds identify with
13:43
them remember them and the only way you
13:45
can do that is by praying interceding
13:47
visiting them and then also don't give
13:49
up your professional faith and he was
13:51
also saying that some were being
13:53
mistreated
13:54
and he was exhorting them to also
13:56
identify and remain united with those
13:58
who have been mistreated for the cause
14:00
of the gospel of christ and we ought to
14:02
do the same in our day and age
14:04
because there are christians worldwide
14:07
that are being persecuted and the way we
14:09
show our support is by standing firm and
14:12
not capitulate under pressure
14:15
we have to stand firm and that's what we
14:17
have been told in verses one through
14:19
three here
14:20
now the next thing that he talks about
14:22
in verses four through six again this
14:24
hits home is let marriage be held in
14:27
honor among all and let the marriage
14:29
bear be undefiled for god will judge the
14:33
sexually immoral and adulterous and keep
14:36
your life from the love of money and be
14:38
and be content with what you have
14:40
because god has said i will never leave
14:42
you nor forsake you so therefore as a
14:45
result the scripture says that we can
14:47
confidently say the lord is my helper
14:49
i would not fear what can man do to me
14:53
basically he moves to more personal
14:55
matters in verses four through 6
14:58
because there may have been somewhere
15:00
being tempted to follow the perfect like
15:02
the perversion of the
15:03
their time the the sexual perversion so
15:07
paul um keeps saying paul the writer
15:10
reminds his readers and you and i about
15:12
the christ exalting
15:15
marriage it must be free of any
15:17
impurities and full of loyalty
15:20
and we can go to ephesians 5 verse 23 to
15:23
37 to read about the marriage that
15:25
pleases god listen to what the scripture
15:27
says how do you leave to please god he
15:30
gives exhortations and he gives
15:32
instructions to both husbands and wife
15:34
listen to what the scripture says
15:37
for the husband is the head of the wife
15:39
even as christ
15:40
is the head of the church his body and
15:43
is himself his savior now as the church
15:46
submits to christ so also wives should
15:50
submit to in everything to their
15:52
husbands husbands love your wives as
15:55
christ loved the church and gave himself
15:59
up for her
16:00
that he might sanctify her having
16:03
cleansed her by the washing of water
16:06
with the word of god so that he might
16:08
present the church to himself in
16:10
splendor without spot or wrinkle or any
16:14
such thing that she might be holy and
16:17
without blemish in the same way
16:20
husbands should love their wives as
16:23
their own bodies he who loves his wife
16:26
loves himself for no one ever hated his
16:29
own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it
16:33
just as christ does the church because
16:35
we are a member for members of his body
16:38
therefore a man shall leave his father
16:41
and mother and hold fast to his wife and
16:43
the two shall become one flesh this
16:47
mystery is profound and i'm saying that
16:49
it refers to christ and the church
16:52
however let each one love his wife as
16:55
himself and let the wife see that she
16:58
respects her husband now you see how the
17:00
scripture tells us how a marriage a
17:03
christ and a god exalting marriage are
17:06
to look like now marriage has been
17:08
redefined in our society you have men
17:13
lusting after other men
17:14
women lusting after other women and just
17:17
perversion in in the marriages there's
17:20
crazy madness going on and the society
17:22
just sits and relax like i was sick into
17:25
my stomach
17:26
you go on foot locker's website you go
17:28
on finish line website you go on all
17:30
these retailers website and all they are
17:32
promoting now
17:33
is the
17:34
um
17:36
same-sex
17:37
marriage
17:38
they have all this thing shoving i mean
17:40
they're putting in your face to the
17:42
point where you become desensitized it
17:44
doesn't make us go this is an
17:45
abomination before god we don't even say
17:47
that anymore because we're getting used
17:49
to it we've been groomed to accept it
17:52
but as christians we have to stand firm
17:55
the scripture tells us that the marriage
17:57
bed must not be defiled okay there must
18:00
not be any hint of sexual perversion
18:03
within the marriage relationship
18:05
and both parties must not engage in any
18:09
extra marital relationship the marriage
18:12
must be pleasing in the sight of god
18:14
and this exaltation comes with a warning
18:17
because the scripture says that god will
18:19
judge those who are sexually immoral and
18:22
the adulterous people if you go to
18:24
romans 1 verse 24 to 27 listen to what
18:27
the scripture says
18:28
therefore
18:30
god gave them up in the lust of their
18:32
hearts to impunity to the desiring of
18:35
their bodies among themselves because
18:37
they exchanged the truth about god for a
18:40
lie and worshiped and served the
18:43
creature
18:44
rather than the creator who is blessed
18:46
forever amen
18:48
for this reason god gave them up to
18:50
dishonorable passions for their women
18:52
exchange natural relations for those
18:55
that are contrary to nature and the men
18:57
likewise gave up natural relations with
18:59
women and were consumed with passion for
19:02
one another
19:03
men committing shameless acts with men
19:05
and receiving in themselves the two
19:07
penalty for their error basically what
19:10
we see now
19:12
is the result of god saying you want to
19:14
leave your way i'm reviewing i'm
19:16
removing my hand and i'm going to give
19:18
you up to the lust of your own heart
19:20
this is why we see the senseless things
19:21
that we are seeing right now
19:23
now the next
19:24
warning is that the love of money we all
19:27
fall prey to this okay notice that the
19:29
writer isn't against money but he's
19:32
against the love of money
19:34
and the scripture itself warns us about
19:36
the love of money in first timothy 6 9
19:39
to 11 the scripture says
19:41
but those who desire to be rich
19:43
fall into temptation into a snare into
19:47
many
19:48
senseless and harmful desires that
19:50
plunge people into ruin and destruction
19:54
for the love of money is the root of all
19:57
kinds of evil it is through this craving
20:00
that some have wandered away from the
20:02
faith and pierced themselves with many
20:06
pangs but as for you oh man of god
20:10
flee
20:10
these things and what should you do
20:13
pursue pursue righteousness
20:16
godliness
20:18
faith
20:19
love steadfastness and gentleness
20:22
so this is what we are told so basically
20:25
this is very interesting that the writer
20:27
follows his exaltation against the love
20:29
of money
20:30
by teaching his readers about
20:32
contentment so you can see he's saying
20:35
he went from talking about the love of
20:36
money to being content
20:38
and then if you go to the book of
20:40
ecclesiastes solomon spends a lot of
20:43
time talking about chasing after the
20:45
wind in the book of in that book because
20:48
contentment is being totally
20:50
satisfied with the lot god has given us
20:53
it's been totally consumed with
20:56
loving god that's how contentment comes
20:59
and actually i talked about uh
21:02
satisfaction last week at my church i
21:04
will share a link with it um maybe
21:06
shortly
21:08
basically uh to avoid the love of money
21:11
and to live to pursue righteousness
21:13
godless faith love steadfastness and
21:15
gentleness
21:17
that's a result of finding our pleasure
21:19
and satisfaction in god it is basically
21:22
coming to a place of rest where we no
21:24
longer live to fulfill our own desires
21:27
but basically what we do is we surrender
21:30
everything we are we are and everything
21:32
that we have to god
21:34
and paul teaches us in philippians 4
21:37
verse 10 to 13 how to be content
21:39
let's read uh philippians 4 verse 10 to
21:42
13. listen to what paul says here
21:44
i'm gonna find the verse for you guys i
21:47
should have pulled that up philippian
21:50
for
21:54
let's listen to what the scripture says
21:55
about contentment
21:57
he said
21:59
that um
21:59
[Music]
22:02
i know
22:05
how to be brought low and i know how to
22:07
be a bound to yet to abound in any
22:10
now let me read it again
22:13
verse 12 to 13 i know how to be
22:17
brought low
22:20
and i know how to abound in any and
22:22
every circumstance i've learned the
22:24
secret of facing plenty and hunger
22:27
abundance and need i can do all things
22:29
through christ who strengthens me
22:32
basically paul is saying contentment is
22:34
being able to
22:36
be to find satisfaction in god to be
22:38
able to be content in every situation
22:39
because he's going to give us the
22:41
antidote he's going to tell us why this
22:43
is possible
22:44
basically he teaches us in philippians 4
22:46
verse 10 to 13 how to be content
22:49
right and
22:50
the writer was actually quoting either
22:52
deuteronomy 31 6 8 or joshua 1 5
22:56
and he tells us why we should be content
22:59
because
23:00
god promises
23:02
never to leave nor forsake us so because
23:05
god says i would never leave you nor
23:07
forsake you and the lord is our helper
23:10
we ought to be content with what he has
23:13
given us in life
23:15
why because god himself has become our
23:17
treasure
23:18
in him we have everything that we need
23:21
and jesus talks about contentment in
23:23
matthew 6
23:24
verse 19 to 34
23:27
right
23:28
because because of god's promise to
23:30
never leave nor forsake his saint the
23:32
writer says that we can say with total
23:34
confidence the lord is my helper i will
23:37
not fear what can man do to me now
23:40
basically this is the bold statement of
23:42
the rested believer
23:44
and we can only speak like this when
23:46
we've come to the place where we are
23:48
totally
23:49
surrendered to god and the original
23:51
readers they had grown weary they were
23:53
they were faithful for their lives and
23:55
he wanted them to he wanted them to come
23:57
to a place of peace
23:59
now i'm not talking about peace where
24:00
there's there's no conflicts or there's
24:02
no struggle or trouble but the peace
24:04
that says that no matter what happens
24:07
god is sovereign
24:09
god is in control this is the peace that
24:11
paul mentions in philippians 4 verse 67
24:13
when he says
24:15
be anxious about nothing but in
24:17
everything by prayer and supplication
24:19
with thanksgiving
24:21
let your requests be made known to god
24:23
and the peace of god which surpasses all
24:26
understanding
24:27
will guard your hearts and minds in
24:29
christ jesus so again the writer was
24:31
quoting psalm 118 6.
24:33
and i wanted to i wanted us to like read
24:35
that real quick 118 6.
24:37
let's go to what psalm 18 6 says
24:41
i kind of want to read that to you guys
24:44
18 6.
24:46
the lord is on my side
24:48
i will not fear
24:50
what can man do to me basically if god
24:53
is on your side
24:55
what should you fear
24:57
you see what i mean if god is on your
24:59
side
25:00
what should you fear anything basically
25:02
the lord was their helper that's what
25:04
the writer was trying to communicate to
25:06
them and to us also
25:08
he that created everything the entire
25:10
heavens and the earth he was sovereign
25:12
over all things he is the one who is
25:14
their help right and then he
25:16
personalizes it when he uses the word my
25:19
so you can go to the lord as i help her
25:21
to the lord is my helper
25:23
god is not just the whole congregation's
25:25
helper but he's also each
25:27
individual's helper he knows your need
25:29
he knows my need he knows exactly what i
25:31
need to hear
25:32
so he's a personal god who's involved in
25:35
the daily
25:36
lives of his people god is very involved
25:39
god is an ever-present help in times of
25:41
trouble the scripture tells us and there
25:43
are many scriptures that are back to the
25:45
the back of that claim if you go to
25:47
psalm 46 1 we're going to read that
25:49
psalm 46 1 matthew 10 30. see psalm 46
25:53
1.
25:54
this is what the scripture says god is
25:56
our refuge and strength a very
25:59
present hell in trouble that's psalm 46
26:04
verse 1.
26:05
and we're going to go to matthew
26:07
10 30.
26:09
let's see what matthew 10 that he says
26:12
listen to the scripture but even the
26:15
hairs of your head are all numbered
26:18
basically god knows
26:20
they had
26:21
the number of hair on your head and in
26:23
luke 12
26:24
7.
26:26
let's go back to there too
26:28
luke 12
26:29
verses 7
26:32
why even the hairs of your head are all
26:35
numbered fear not you are of more value
26:38
than many sparrows so this is what this
26:40
this was jesus discourse he was talking
26:42
to his disciples that their hair
26:45
is numbered god knows them by name
26:48
so basically according to the writer the
26:51
lord is our helper and why should we
26:53
fear anything or anyone now this is
26:56
again a rhetorical question and you can
26:58
answer that yourself
27:00
you shouldn't fear so to wrap this up
27:02
what have you learned
27:04
we have learned a lot today to show
27:06
brotherly love right to show solidarity
27:09
to those who are in prison and
27:11
struggling and those who have been
27:12
persecuted for the name of christ
27:14
to keep the marriage life and the
27:16
marriage bad on the fire and i talked
27:18
about it intensively and to also
27:21
keep ourselves from the love of money
27:23
but to pursue what righteousness
27:25
god
27:26
godliness
27:27
faith love and steadfastness and then
27:30
finally to be not afraid of anything to
27:32
be content because to to to be able to
27:34
be
27:35
to not have the love of money we have to
27:37
find our satisfaction in god himself
27:40
this is how we need to live to please
27:41
god there's so much more that we can
27:43
talk about but i don't i don't want to
27:44
over talk here so i would encourage you
27:47
to go back and read the book of
27:48
ecclesiastes
27:49
and also we'll encourage you to to go
27:51
back and read this scripture again
27:53
it's just so much that god is trying to
27:54
tell us
27:55
i am struggling with this idea of
27:57
satisfaction because i get rest less
28:00
every day i get up and i feel like i
28:02
have so many things to do and i don't
28:03
know what to do
28:05
to the point where you can get torn
28:07
in different places you can get pulled
28:09
in many directions so the goal is to
28:11
find that sweet tweet spot where
28:14
the thing that fills you with worship
28:16
and praise
28:18
is what you need to be doing how do you
28:20
know that you are satisfied are you
28:23
filled with worship and praise
28:26
when you complete your task when you are
28:28
doing your tasks are you filled with
28:31
worship and praise
28:33
if that's the case then i would say that
28:35
you are pretty much
28:37
doing what you're supposed to be doing
28:39
but you if you're constantly frustrated
28:42
then it's time to ask the lord
28:45
is this what you want me to do i'm
28:46
feeling it right now
28:48
you know and i'm i'm sharing with you so
28:52
i'll encourage you again to go back and
28:53
to read the scripture all right so have
28:55
a wonderful day
28:57
and i'll see you next time thank you
