The event is recorded in the 18th chapter of the book of Kings. Elijah had been living in Sidon with a widow for some time, hiding from Ahab. God finally commands him to leave Sidon and confront Ahab. At this point the people of Israel under Ahab’s leadership are living in sin and completely oblivious to their depravity. Elijah is basically sent to restore them; but to do so God commands him to call fire down from heaven. We are going to be looking at the significance of this event in today’s presentation.

good afternoon guys and this is tired
0:02
again and I have another presentation
0:04
for you today and this time we're gonna
0:06
be diving into first Kings chapter 18
0:09
verse 20 to 40 and again this is Elijah
0:13
and the prophets of bale that's the
0:15
title of the presentation and I'm gonna
0:18
give you a quick intro now I don't know
0:20
if I'm gonna be able to squeeze both on
0:21
this this thing in like 15 minutes
0:23
because they did tool that I'm using
0:25
only allows me to 15 minutes so we'll
0:27
see as we go okay let's go to the next
0:30
slide I'm going to give you a quick
0:31
introduction so the event is recorded in
0:34
the 18th chapter of the book of Kings
0:36
Elijah had been living inside armed with
0:39
a widow for some time hiding from a hub
0:42
and God finally commands him to leave
0:45
side and in confront a hub now this
0:47
point in Israel is three on the people
0:49
of Israel under a house leadership are
0:52
living in sin and completely oblivious
0:54
to their depravity like they are totally
0:56
just gone at this moment so a light is
0:59
basically sent to restore them but to do
1:01
so God commands him to call fire down
1:03
from heaven so we are going to be
1:06
looking at the significance of this
1:08
event in today's presentation so I just
1:10
gave you a quick introduction so let's
1:12
go into the next slide so before I do
1:15
this I want to read the entire passage
1:18
so I'm gonna expect see the screen and
1:20
we're gonna go into Scripture okay and
1:23
this is first Kings verse eight chapter
1:26
18 verse 20 to 40 now I have an accent
1:30
so when I read this just follow with my
1:32
screen if you can understand my words
1:33
sometimes so I'm gonna read on the ESV
1:37
English standard version
1:39
he reads like this so a hug were sent to
1:42
all the people of Israel and gathered
1:44
the prophets together and mount our
1:46
camel and Elijah came near to all the
1:49
people and said how long will you go on
1:51
limp in between two different opinions
1:52
if the Lord is God follow him but if
1:55
they all don't follow him and the people
1:58
did not answer him a word then Elijah
2:00
said to the people I given I only am
2:02
left a prophet of the Lord the bills
2:05
profit of 450 let two bulls be given to
2:08
us and let them choose one bull for
2:10
himself and cut into pieces and laid on
2:12
the wood
2:13
but put no fire to it and I'll prepare
2:15
the outer ball and laid on the wood and
2:17
put no fire to it and you call upon the
2:19
name of your God and I'll call upon the
2:21
name of the Lord and the God will
2:22
answers my fire He is God and all the
2:25
people answered it is well spoken then
2:27
largest hit about the Prophet or field
2:28
choose for yourself one bullet prepared
2:30
first for you a mini and caught up on
2:33
the name of your God and put no fire to
2:35
it and took the board that was given to
2:37
them and you prepared it and call upon
2:39
the name of bail from morning until noon
2:41
saying all will hear us where there was
2:43
no voice and no one answered and they
2:46
limped around the altar that they had
2:48
made and at noon Elijah mocked him
2:50
saying cry aloud for he is God is a God
2:53
either he is musing or he's relieving
2:56
himself for his only journey or perhaps
2:57
ease asleep and must be awakened when we
3:01
cried out and cut himself after their
3:03
custom swords and Lance's onto the brush
3:06
gosh gushed out upon them and a midday
3:09
past and as me they passed they raved on
3:12
until the time of the offering of the
3:13
oblation but there was no voice no one
3:16
answered no one paid attention then
3:18
Elijah's say to all the people come near
3:20
to me and all the people came near to
3:23
him and he repaired the altar of the
3:24
Lord that had been broken down Elijah
3:27
took twelve stones according to the norm
3:29
of the tribe of the sons of Jacob to
3:30
whom the word of the Lord came saying
3:32
Israel shall be your name and with the
3:34
stones he built an altar in the name of
3:36
the Lord
3:36
and he made his tragic body altar asked
3:38
readers would contain two seeds of seed
3:41
and he put the wood in order and cut the
3:43
pool in pieces and laid it on the wood
3:45
and he said fill four jars with water
3:47
and pour it on the burnt offering on the
3:49
wood and he said do it a second time and
3:52
they did it a second time and he said do
3:54
it a third time and he did it a third
3:56
time and the water ran around the altar
3:58
and filled the trench also with water
4:01
and at the time of the offering of the
4:03
oblation Elijah the prophet came here
4:05
and said O Lord God of Abraham Isaac and
4:08
Israel let it be known this day that you
4:10
are God in Israel and I am your servant
4:12
and I've done all these things at your
4:14
word answer me O Lord answer me that
4:17
these people may know the Chujo Lord our
4:19
God and that you have turned their
4:21
hearts back and then the fire of the
4:23
Lord fell and consumed the book the
4:25
burnt offering in the wood and the
4:26
stones
4:27
Dustin licked up the water that was in a
4:28
trench and when all the people saw it
4:30
they fell on their faces and said the
4:33
Lord he is God the Lord he is God and
4:35
Elijah said to them seize the prophets
4:37
of beer and let no one of them escape
4:38
and he seized them and like I brought
4:41
them down to the brook Kishon and
4:42
slaughtered them there so let's go back
4:45
to the slide so you just read the story
4:48
and I just wanted to be down pick up
4:50
some key verses now in verse 21 says and
4:53
Elijah came near to all the people and
4:55
said how long will you go on limping
4:57
between two different opinions if the
5:00
Lord is God follow him but if pale and
5:02
follow him and the people did not answer
5:04
him a word now the question is why do
5:07
people not answer him a word and the
5:09
people did not answer him because they
5:10
couldn't scriptures say in first
5:13
Corinthians 12 verse 3 therefore I want
5:16
you to understand how no one speaking
5:17
the Spirit of God ever since Jesus is
5:20
accursed and no one can say Jesus is
5:22
Lord except in the Holy Spirit so those
5:25
people could not answer Elijah because
5:28
they couldn't they just couldn't they
5:31
didn't know because the only way they're
5:33
gonna say God is the Lord or the Lord is
5:36
God is wonderful spirit gives them the
5:39
ability to do so so they couldn't do it
5:41
let's go to the next slide now the
5:43
question is why did Elijah call fire
5:45
down from heaven what no water what not
5:47
anything else for fire and we need to
5:50
understand why now God said that John
5:52
was going to baptize with water what
5:55
Jesus was going to baptize with the Holy
5:56
Spirit and the baptism or fire now the
5:59
people's heart were divided and when
6:01
Elijah called affirmative failed and it
6:03
Israel like to come and watch his
6:04
performance or rather God's performance
6:07
he was intended to circumcise their
6:08
heart
6:09
He pours water on the pool and wood
6:12
polluting the baptism of Jesus by John
6:14
in a river and then fire comes out
6:16
consumed everything shown that Jesus was
6:18
going to baptize with the Holy Spirit
6:20
now John was supposed to come in the
6:22
spirit of Elijah to show the baptism of
6:25
water but God in Jesus himself had come
6:28
to restore people's heart you see that
6:31
let's go to the next slide now verse 38
6:33
39 no response right then the fire of
6:36
the Lord fell and consumed the burnt
6:37
offering and the wood and the stones and
6:40
and licked up the water that was in a
6:42
trench and when all the people saw it
6:44
they fell on their faces and said the
6:47
Lord he is God the Lord he is God you
6:50
see that now the people's heart did not
6:53
change til the fire came down and licked
6:55
up all the water
6:56
remember Elijah asked him whose god is
6:59
he the Lord and he can answer because
7:01
they didn't they couldn't he just
7:02
couldn't basically no one can come to
7:05
God
7:06
unless the sphere of God draws him or
7:08
her this is why when Elijah asked the
7:10
people but who is the Lord in verse 21
7:13
they didn't respond because they
7:14
couldn't he is the same today no one can
7:18
believe in Jesus unless the Holy Spirit
7:20
prompts their hearts you see Elijah
7:23
Elijah couldn't change a people's mind
7:25
or heart because he didn't have the
7:27
power to do so neither can you and I
7:29
unless the Holy Spirit the fire burns
7:31
their hearts to respond like people are
7:33
gonna respond when God Himself drops
7:36
their heart because no one can come to
7:37
God and no one can say Jesus is Lord
7:40
unless the Holy Spirit Himself prompts
7:43
them to do so he can beat them down with
7:46
a gospel you can shove it down their
7:47
throat they're not gonna respond until
7:49
God Himself gives them that desire to do
7:51
so okay you see what I'm saying
7:54
next supporting passages in Matthew 3
7:58
verse 11 yan says about touch me water
8:03
for repentance but he was coming after
8:05
me meaning Jesus is mightier than I
8:07
whose sandals I am not worthy to carry
8:10
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit
8:13
and Fire and that's kind of what Elijah
8:15
was showing there in the Old Testament
8:17
so you could see that the New Testament
8:19
is in an old concealed and in the old is
8:23
in the new revealed you see so it's not
8:25
by accident that Elijah was calling down
8:27
fire from heaven because God is the one
8:30
that changes the people the holy spirit
8:32
the one that does the changes man can do
8:34
it Elijah could not do it because Elijah
8:36
did not have the power to do it but God
8:38
is the one that prompts us to say yes
8:41
Lord we don't respond to God's
8:43
invitation because we want to because by
8:45
nature we hate God no one can come to
8:49
God unless card draws them
8:52
he looked 316 John John answer them and
8:54
say about those of you water but he was
8:57
mightier than I is coming the strap of
9:00
whose sandals I am not worthy to untie
9:02
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit
9:04
and Fire
9:05
so basically John was Prelude in
9:08
everything I was going to take I mean
9:10
John a John Elisha was even I said
9:12
picture what John was gonna come and do
9:14
and then Jesus coming ultimately so that
9:17
I said that's an important passage of
9:19
the Old Testament that I think we need
9:21
to really pay attention to because no
9:24
one can change unless God Himself the
9:27
Holy Spirit represented by the fire
9:29
burns your heart to respond to it
9:31
so what our prayer should be when we
9:34
pray for people is that the Holy Spirit
9:36
Himself tells the prompting because
9:38
regeneration comes from the Holy Spirit
9:40
he comes from God it's not something
9:42
that man can do now we are used by God
9:44
in a process maybe we present the gospel
9:47
we speak the word and God uses those
9:49
word and he changes their heart he makes
9:51
them understandable to the person so
9:52
that they can respond to it it's not
9:55
nothing that we can do because remember
9:56
of John Paul say Apollo's or Apollo's
10:01
preached i watered and God caused the
10:04
increase maybe I didn't cook that right
10:06
but you get the point
10:07
we are just uh the instrument that God
10:10
is using for God Himself is the one that
10:12
does the prompting okay now I hope this
10:14
helps you guys out I don't want to keep
10:16
it too long so hopefully you learn a
10:18
couple of things from this and you have
10:20
a blessed day
10:21
thank you
