0:06
hi everyone I'm Kell oh' horo and this
0:09
is adaptable Behavior
0:15
explained it's hard yeah so you can't
0:20
fix it you're busy trying to figure out
0:25
school nice yeah got your degree
0:30
and well like I said and then um and
0:32
then you know I did that kind of talk
0:34
therapy for a couple of years and of
0:36
course got into my own therapy yeah and
0:40
uh I got so far doing talk therapy but
0:44
then I kind of hit this plateau and okay
0:47
great you know I'm not my mom he's not
0:49
my dad why do I keep acting the way I'm
0:50
acting you know I understood it and I
0:53
know why so I I transitioned at that
0:56
point over to an EMDR therapist and I
0:59
mean a couple sessions I'm like holy
1:02
oh I can't believe how different
1:05
this is because I could feel the changes
1:09
happening in my body as we were doing
1:11
the work and and everything made so much
1:13
more sense and then I went through this
1:14
weird experience where I felt guilty
1:16
about having been a talk therapist
1:19
because I spent two years doing that and
1:20
I was like all these people are still
1:23
stuck and I didn't know and I can't seem
1:25
to make anything better no matter how
1:26
much I love Anam and how much I'm there
1:28
and validating and and using all the
1:30
skills that I learned and so I got hot
1:33
soon as I soon as I um went to my own
1:35
therapy I was like oh this is this is
1:37
the stuff absolutely got to happen and
1:40
so I went right into the uh basic EMDR
1:44
training and started started my trauma
1:47
therapy specialy career path and it was
1:49
just a fit I mean being on that side of
1:51
the couch as a client was revolutionary
1:55
for me and how I could conceptualize
1:56
cases and also just knowing what we're
1:59
asking of our clients as therapists and
2:01
what we're expecting of them and having
2:03
it having the opportunity to um really
2:07
help people to create lifelong
2:09
meaningful change like I was
2:11
experiencing really reinvigorated me it
2:14
made me feel so um purposeful and
2:19
relevant and excited and so I mean the
2:22
rest is history when it comes to my
2:24
passion for this topic for sure
2:25
absolutely we'll get into that too yeah
2:27
thank you for for sure yeah absolutely
2:29
so you became a trauma therapist yeah
2:32
okay so what next what happened after
2:34
that um well I opened infinite healing
2:37
in Wellness about a little over two
2:40
years in soon as I got my license I was
2:42
ready to open Infinite and we are an
2:44
EMDR Center for excellence here in
2:46
Arizona we've got a location in Gilbert
2:49
and in Phoenix and over the years we've
2:53
uh cultivated a culture where we have
2:55
you know 18 therapists at this point
2:57
that are EMDR Specialists yeah we've had
3:00
the luxury of helping you know many
3:02
thousands of people heal on their
3:04
journeys of becoming their best selves
3:06
and uh of course I've taken my passion
3:09
from EMDR therapy and uh my teaching
3:12
history and melded them together so now
3:14
I do a lot of consultation and training
3:17
and help other therapists become better
3:20
therapists so that's kind of what I've
3:22
been doing with my heart and passion for
3:24
EMDR along with raising my family and
3:28
along the way having now five
3:29
grandchildren and my awesome son so very
3:32
busy with my wonderful family and love
3:34
love that the most of course first but
3:37
um but career-wise I've been plugging
3:40
plugging uh into teaching and
3:43
essentially yeah yeah so you were you
3:46
started your own business infinite so
3:48
now you're wanting to start a podcast so
3:50
tell me about that what's your vision
3:52
behind that well let's see uh I'm always
3:55
looking for a challenge but I think
3:57
primarily what motivates it is I can't
4:00
even count how many hundreds of clients
4:02
that I've had that have said after their
4:05
session everything makes so much more
4:07
sense or why didn't we learn this in
4:09
school or how come no one ever told me
4:11
this or even more heartbreaking you know
4:13
you have a 65-year-old client and
4:15
they've had a 30-year marriage and
4:18
they're like had I known this stuff
4:20
everything would have been so different
4:22
in my whole life and so there's grief
4:24
about that so honestly um I wanted to be
4:28
able to provide a platform where I can
4:30
teach about things that I teach my
4:33
clients in a way that's accessible you
4:35
know not everybody can afford therapy or
4:37
maybe not everybody's ready or maybe
4:38
even sometimes just having the education
4:40
about how we work and how we show up
4:42
absolutely that's enough to help
4:44
cultivate change and meaningful uh uh
4:48
awareness in our lives and in our
4:50
relationships and so my hope is that
4:52
people can tune in and not that this is
4:54
a replacement for therapists by or
4:56
therapy by any means but that they can
4:58
get some of the education components
5:00
that really should be taught in school
5:02
starting young because we learn from our
5:05
caregivers and let's be honest most of
5:07
our caregivers are doing the very best
5:09
they can with what they know and most of
5:11
them don't know about this topic they
5:13
don't understand mental health they
5:14
don't understand that it's not separate
5:16
trauma yeah from physical health so
5:19
ultimately I want to have a platform to
5:21
help educate to help people uh grow to
5:24
help people get excited and learn
5:26
something new and um just kind of pay
5:29
forward what I've been so fortunate to
5:32
experience in my own personal therapy
5:33
for a decade now and then what I've
5:36
learned from the in the gifts of getting
5:38
to to have my clients teach me so much
5:40
over the last you know 13 years of doing
5:43
this so you want to share it with the
5:44
world yeah like it seems right seems
5:47
like the thing you're supposed to do
5:48
right yeah so you're starting a podcast
5:51
um what can viewers expect from this and
5:54
what themes and topics do you want to
5:56
explore with them um you know although
6:00
I'm an expert in trauma therapy I'm
6:02
really hoping to bring an authentic
6:05
compassionate amalgamation of both my
6:08
personal life experience the lived
6:10
experience of my clients that I'm so
6:12
lucky to listen to every day um the
6:15
education and the training that I've
6:17
been um been through and kind of bridge
6:20
a lot of that together and so I want to
6:23
talk about marriage and relationships
6:25
and dating and you know parenting and
6:29
adoption and depression and anxiety and
6:32
you know EMDR therapy and how that's so
6:35
effective and helpful mindfulness I
6:37
really I don't really think any topics
6:39
necessarily off limit limits as long as
6:41
it relates to the Human Condition how we
6:44
show up why we show up the way we do and
6:46
if there's things that we can talk about
6:48
to help make that better for people so
6:50
that they can have like a new way of
6:53
thinking they can adopt a more uh
6:55
wholehearted approach to their Liv
6:57
framework yeah yeah and and really just
6:59
be able to um improve and and ultimately
7:04
getting back to the most original selves
7:06
that we were meant to be before things
7:09
happened that helped us to adapt in ways
7:11
that may or may not be very helpful so
7:13
hopefully they can learn about that and
7:16
and even maybe start the process of un
7:18
shaming ourselves when we do things or
7:20
we act in ways that we're not proud of
7:22
and have that be almost a relief that
7:26
maybe they don't need to yeah that's
7:28
exciting that's the hope all right so
7:31
those are awesome topics I'm excited to
7:33
hear about those can you give us an
7:34
example maybe of something specific that
7:36
our viewers can expect and that would
7:38
really resonate with them and something
7:40
that they'll like yeah um for sure you
7:43
should see my podcast planner I'm like
7:45
oh that could be an episode you know and
7:47
I'm in there you know typing up
7:48
something I'm so there's so many things
7:50
to talk about there's I get so many
7:52
ideas every day that I work with someone
7:54
and they you know they have their aha
7:56
moments and I'm like this is just a lack
7:58
of data they just didn't know and
8:00
they're smart adaptive well educated
8:02
people and they just didn't get taught
8:04
this stuff so um one one I mean I think
8:07
that one of the most important episodes
8:10
needs to be on emotions and how we're
8:12
wired how it's chemical you know this is
8:15
this should be taught in in biology in
8:17
school and it's not it's like we skip
8:21
the thing the mental health side yeah
8:22
like we skipped the thing that runs at
8:24
all the the computer is the brain and
8:26
we're like side note right like inside
8:28
out the movie feels like exactly like we
8:31
really need access to that so I think
8:33
we'll do an episode on emotions how
8:34
we're work we'll talk about some
8:36
researchers um that have really informed
8:38
the topic um and mental health and and
8:41
just the biology and the neurobiology of
8:43
of humans um oh that's cool yeah that be
8:46
yeah but so that's just one idea of
8:48
something that I would want to bring
8:50
awareness to and give us a new framework
8:53
to to to interact and and move through
8:55
the world with awes with other humans
8:57
awesome well thank you Kelly for talking
8:59
with us and having a conversation I'm
9:01
excited to see what's coming forward I'm
9:02
excited to do this and I really
9:04
appreciate you taking some time to give
9:06
me a hand with this and absolutely bring
9:08
our viewers a little bit about what they
9:09
can expect from absolutely from our new
9:12
project so heck yeah thank you so much
9:14
everybody for tuning in I really
9:16
appreciate your time and don't forget to
9:18
like And subscribe and please share to
9:20
pay it forward if you think this is an
9:22
area that people can learn from and heal
9:24
from and don't forget to lead with love
9:27
it'll never steer you wrong
