Being a dad comes with challenges. There are times when my kids just do stuff wrong that I know is wrong

They know it's wrong. And, well, there needs to be a punishment

Sometimes my wife and I ask what the punishment should be. We explain that perhaps a toy should be taken away from them

or a day out that we have planned might be taken away as well

But sometimes we say even though that they should lose the day out or that toy

we're going to give it to them anyway. Why? Because that's what my wife and I believe God does for us

My kids at that moment deserve a punishment. They don't deserve a treat, a gift

However, they get it anyway. It shows how much we love them

It shows how much we care about them. But this is mercy

To be given something that you just don't deserve. My wife and I are merciful to our children because we know that we do stuff wrong all the time as well

And we believe that our Father in heaven is merciful to us

Just like Jesus says in Luke chapter 6, 36. Be merciful just as your Father is merciful
