The TB News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, I'm Brenda, vicar of St Francis Parish Church in Teesside. On the day Jesus rose from the tomb, two disciples walked to a village called Emmaus
0:17
but don't yet believe that Jesus is risen from the dead. They saw the empty tomb and listened to the women, but are in a state of utter shock and confusion
0:28
As the disciples walk, they talk about what has happened and a stranger asks what they are discussing
0:37
The disciples look sad and say, Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem that does not know what has happened in these days
0:46
Let's pause there a moment because the stranger joining them is Jesus himself
0:52
But the disciples have been kept from recognising him. I wonder if it because they are so caught up in grief Have you ever been so utterly devastated that you couldn take things in The stranger walks with them and they invite him to sit and eat with them
1:13
and when Jesus takes some bread, blesses it, breaks the bread and shares it with them
1:20
Suddenly they recognise Jesus. He disappears and they rush back to Jerusalem to tell everyone the good news
1:29
These disciples in their grief fail to recognise Jesus, yet still offer kindness
1:37
How will we treat the stranger in our midst, even in our most difficult times
1:43
The world becomes a better place when we offer kindness to the stranger
1:48
It speaks of Jesus' love for all humankind. Amen
