The Chibi News Daily Reflection
0:04
Hi, I'm Brenda, vicar of an Anglican church. There's a story Jesus told of a rich young man who said
0:13
Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life? And Jesus says, if you wish to be perfect
0:20
go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven
0:26
We hear the man went away sad because his possessions were more important to him than Jesus
0:32
Our church is called St. Francis and Francis was also a rich young man
0:38
But unlike the man in the story, Francis found his love for Jesus was more important than riches
0:45
He was an unexpected Christian finding the truth of Jesus after hearing the voice of God
0:52
Francis realised though, his riches were a stumbling block to following God's call
0:57
so he gave everything away, even his clothes. Francis loved Jesus with all his heart
1:04
and wanted nothing to be a stumbling block to his faith. He was full of joy and especially loved the poorest
1:12
the sick and the unloved, just like Jesus. After giving up his riches, Francis humbly knelt before God
1:21
and served the poor for the rest of his life, without the distraction of wealth
1:27
I sometimes wonder in this modern world what things get in the way of us living that perfect
1:34
life following Jesus. What comforts we cling to that block us living life his way in all its freedom
