The Chibi News Daily Reflection

Hi, I'm Mark and I'm a vicar in the Church of England in Middlesbrough
0:09
This year is the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. At Nicaea, a bunch of bishops and church leaders gathered together to debate the big issue of the day
0:19
which was whether there was any sense that Jesus was less than God
0:23
The council concluded that what the church had been already teaching for about 300 years
0:28
was true to what was found in the Bible, that this person Jesus was indeed God
0:33
One of the arguments for this was that Jesus does miracles with the exact same power and authority as God
0:39
So when he makes bread multiplied to feed the thousands, or heals the sick, or makes the dead rise
0:44
he's doing it with the authority and the power of God. But there's an interesting thing if you read the stories of Jesus feeding the thousands
0:52
Mark's Gospel tells us that once Jesus had given thanks and broken the bread in two
0:56
he then gave it to his disciples and it was as they passed out the bread
1:00
that it never ran out. As the council of Nicaea affirmed Jesus doesn't need to use his disciples in the miracle
1:06
he's God but he gets his friends involved in serving others and in doing so those friends are blessed
1:14
Christians believe this is still true today that Jesus calls all who follow him
1:18
to serve in his power and the church believes that in doing so people find great blessing
