Hi, I'm Jordan and I'm a vicar in the Church of England

This week we've been exploring the parable of the prodigal son. Jesus tells us a story of a father with two sons
0:19
The younger one takes the inheritance and squanders it all and returns destitute, asking for forgiveness
0:25
The older is diligent and works really hard for his father. The older is offended that the father forgave and celebrated the younger brother
0:36
So the father comes out to plead with his older son to engage in the party he's thrown for his younger brother
0:42
Jesus tells us the older son replies, Look, all these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your royal orders
0:51
yet you never gave me even a young goat to celebrate with my friends
0:54
the son is so angry at his father but he misunderstands who his father is and what
1:02
he's like the son worked for his father but never really got to know his father's heart
1:07
the father replies my son you are always with me everything I have is yours
1:13
as Christians we believe God is like this extravagant father and by this Jesus suggests
1:21
that sometimes we can assume negative things about people because we don't really know them
1:27
But by engaging in real relationship, we might begin to see otherwise
