How to build a clothing store with the Shopify starter plan
0:04
Hey guys, welcome back. In this video, I'll show you guys step by step how you can get started with building your Shopify store with a starter plan
0:13
So let's get into it. Now, the first thing you need to do is sign up on Shopify and choose your plan
0:19
I have chosen the starter plan. Now, after you do that, you're automatically going to have the dawn theme, which I don't think is a bad theme at all
0:27
A lot of people like to change up their team. That's totally up to you
0:31
But you can leave the theme as it is and begin your customization
0:35
So the first thing I like to do is click on customize over here into my Dawn theme
0:41
And then I've added my business name. Now, if you have a logo, you want to add your logo over here
0:47
I don't have one, so I'm not going to edit. You guys can see the content in my announcement bar as well
0:52
And in my basic announcement bar, I can go into the content section on the
0:57
the left and then i can add maybe like this so i have added my new content in this and then after
1:04
that i have my header now in the header we have a navigation panel and we're going to switch this up
1:09
later but after that we have a basic banner section which has the image now this can be customized
1:15
if you want you can go on ahead and you know add different blocks within your header i can click on
1:21
select image over here and upload the image that i want for my header you can also click on add
1:27
images over here and upload your own image if you want to if you want to add your own image as well so
1:34
if i want to add this image i can click on open and then wait for this image to complete the upload
1:41
process and now that it has been uploaded i can click on over here and now this image will be added
1:47
now once you add an image obviously you have to adjust the size the opacity of the overlay
1:52
you can add a second images so it's a scroll image then you have the banner height so
1:57
I want to adapt to the first image or you can also do a small banner like this
2:03
You can also do a medium banner and you can also do the large one
2:07
Let's say I want to go with a small one over here and I want to edit the image to make it of this painting over here
2:14
I'm just going to choose that over here and then I'm going to edit the content on top
2:19
I'm going to add like our tagline or whatever you want and then you have your shop all button
2:24
Now this shop all button is not very distinct So I can click on the button over here And then on the left side on the panel there will actually be the section where I can get started with editing the appearance of our button
2:37
So just clicking on this button over here, we have the button label, which I might want to change to shop now
2:44
Instead, shop now, like this. So after I have added this, I can go back
2:52
and I can also click on add block to add more blocks
2:56
Below that we have our featured products, and these are just some sample products that I'll show you guys how to create
3:02
but I'm going to leave it as it is. Let's say I want to change the title
3:06
so instead of featured products, I want to add hot sellers like this
3:11
Now, you can also add a small description if you want, but I'm going to leave it as it is
3:15
So this is like a basic homepage. Now, after this, you want to enable certain things in your homepage
3:21
This includes your privacy. policies so you can go into these settings and you can click on your footer over
3:27
here once you click on your footer this will directly open the footer section
3:30
and you can scroll down and show your payment icons enable the language
3:35
selector enable country slash region show your policy links and you can add to more
3:39
margins if you want as well so you can start building on those as well they can
3:44
also add or reduce the padding that you have I want to add some top padding while
3:50
removing some of the bottom one like this So after you've, you know, edited the basic appearance of your homepage, you can get started with the rest of your pages
3:59
But before that, we're going to edit our navigation panel. So we're just going to save this on the top right over here
4:05
And once we've saved it, we're going to click on exit on the top left. Then within your online store on your left toolbar, you're going to click on navigation
4:12
Once you click on navigation, you have your main menu. So you want to click on your main menu
4:18
And instead of it's saying catalog and contact, I will click on edit
4:22
and instead of contact, let's say I don't want my contact page, then I can remove it from over here
4:28
Now, this really depends on your personal preference. I don't want a contact page, so I'm going to remove it because this is an e-commerce store
4:36
Obviously, you can add a About Us page, and within that, you can add your contact info
4:40
If you like it in e-commerce stores, you can add it as well. But instead of the catalogs page, I want to add the categorizations of products
4:49
So instead of having the catalogs, I will just have. all products like this so this is the categorization I like to add instead of catalog because that just sounds really weird for a clothing store now after that I like to go into products and we going to save the new menu and then we going to go into product and click on collections now over here we going to click on create collection and we can start creating collections so let say I have a tops collection and then if a product tag is equal to tops
5:24
and I can just add this particular tag. So automatically, whenever I add the tops tag to a item
5:30
it would be added to the tops collection. And I can click on save over here
5:35
Then I can go into my second section, which might be bottoms
5:39
And then whenever the tag of bottoms is added, then the product would automatically be added to this collection
5:47
Now, these are just two sample categories. Now, I can go into my product section
5:52
and I'll show you how to add a product. So the first thing you have to do is click on add product on the top right
5:56
If you already have a pre-existing inventory of products in the form of a CSV or Excel file
6:02
you can click on import over here and upload your file, but we're going to manually add our product
6:07
which might be, let's say it's going to be blue skinny jeans
6:11
And then on the bottom, we can add our image, the pricing of this item, the cost per item
6:17
the cost per item tracking our quantity, so we're just going to add our quantity
6:23
and then after that we can add the physical product we can add variance as well so you're going to click on variance and you have four basic types of variants you can add size color material and style so for us we're going to add sizes and we're going to add the option so it's a size for jeans you can also add waste instead of size you know you can label it as waste later on but let's say it's going to be 28 30 and then 32 let's say these are the three sizes available
6:53
maybe 34 and then maybe 20 26 as well then i can move 26 up top like this now after that we can add the five variants
7:06
and then the amount each variant is available as so i can click on edit quantities and we're going to
7:14
add our quantities like this think this and click on done over here and once you have completed this
7:20
information on the right side on the top right you can add the product as the active product and then you going to add your product type so from here we just going to add the collection it should be present in and you can click on view all to see your
7:34
collections currently our collections have not synced up so i can just save over here like this and we have
7:42
our quantities that i can add like this so i'm just going to click on save over here and add the sku for this
7:53
as well and then after that we have our values we have all of the product info added making sure
8:01
that we have all our variants as well i'm going to accept this suggestion and i'm going to add
8:09
the relevant information so our blue skinny jeans have now been added and i can go into the
8:16
collections and i'm going to go into the bottoms collection and i am going to take
8:23
a look at some of our product so I'm going to go into product and taking blue skinny
8:27
jeans I can click on this to make sure that I add my tags so I can click on view all
8:34
tags and I'm going to search for bottoms add bottoms click on save you can click on
8:41
collections and choose your collections as well but once you've added your product you
8:46
can go into your online store and you're going to be able to find the product
8:51
within your all product section. So once this has been added in your all product section
8:56
you want to go into online store on the bottom left and then click on pages
9:01
And for all of the categories that you've built within your clothing
9:05
so tops, bottoms, skirts, dresses, whatever it is, you're going to click on Add Page
9:11
and then you're going to create a separate page for that category. So if I have bottoms, I would add that and click on Save
9:18
And then what I'm going to do is I am going to do. is I am going to add it to my store's navigation over here and I'm going to click on my main menu once more
9:26
add menu item and this is going to be bottoms and then I'm going to choose the collections page of bottom
9:33
I'm going to click on add and now I'm going to click on save menu and now if I go back into my store I have my
9:40
bottoms collection and my blue skinny jeans which were tagged as blue skinny jeans are now available
9:45
So this is just like a basic overview of how you can get started with building on Shopify
