Hi, it's David George Brook, That Gratitude Guy
0:11
Can gratitude cure depression? Well, the short answer is, I don't know, but I know 10 things that can help
0:19
These are all important things when done individually and combined together can make a huge difference
0:24
in dealing with depression. Number one, exercise every single day. Try to exercise
0:30
I know there's times when you're depressed. I've gone through it when you don't feel like exercising, but if you could even get out
0:36
for a walk, it can make such a huge difference. Gets the blood circulating, gets the muscles moving, gets the body moving
0:43
Motion equals emotion. So it makes such a big difference. Next, meditation, preferably a guided one if you can
0:50
I do a 15 minute meditation, which guides me and talks me through the whole thing
0:54
Take the breath in, the breath out. Really makes the time go by fast, but it really helps your brain to take a break for just
1:00
a second. And speaking of your brain, next, feed your brain. Read inspirational books or podcasts or audible books or whatever you can
1:09
Feed your brain good information. It's just like gas in the car
1:12
If you put old gas in the car, you wouldn't expect the car to run really well. So put really good information into your brain every single day. Sleep
1:21
So important to get seven, eight, nine hours of sleep. Do whatever it takes
1:25
Get to bed early. Try to get some hot chocolate before you go to bed or whatever it might be, but get your sleep
1:31
It's so important. The chemicals in the brain get recreated for the next day and it cleans out all the toxins
1:36
from the day that you just had. Sleep is a time the rest of your body shuts down so your brain can do the work and get
1:41
you prepared for the next day. Gratitude journal. I'm that gratitude guy
1:46
Talk about a gratitude journal. So important to write in a gratitude journal
1:50
I have that gratitude guy's daily gratitude journal. Five minutes every single day
1:55
It's all about reporting your blessings and abundance. As I say so many times, gratitude turns what you have into enough
2:02
So, so important. And there's the highlight of your day. There's your daily number
2:06
There's gratitude for the day. There's gratitude for tomorrow. Takes just five minutes, but makes such a big difference
2:13
Positive friends. You know, you're known by the company you keep. You know what they say, one bad apple will spoil the whole bunch
2:19
Hang around with people that are positive, that lift you up. Rising tide raises all boats as they say
2:24
If you've got some negative friends, get rid of them. Don't make a big deal about it
2:28
Just move on for somebody else. It's just like going to Starbucks and you have coffee with somebody
2:32
When you walk away, if you feel worse after the coffee, that's probably somebody you don't
2:36
want to have a friendship with. If you feel the same, that's okay. But if you feel better, that's somebody you want to spend more time with
2:42
So think about that. So, so very important. Breathing. Take the time to breathe and take for granted our breathing all the time because it's just
2:50
in and out, in and out. And we don't think about it, but you sit down and you take three deep breaths in and out
2:56
about 10 seconds apart or so. You will notice immediate difference in your attitude
3:00
You can just feel it in your body. It's so important. Diet is next
3:05
You know, once again, like the bad gas in the car, you put junk into your body, you're
3:09
going to get junk out in terms of performance and how you feel. So eat healthy, healthy and nutritious things, vegetables, fruits, all those things
3:17
Limit fast food. Limit red meat. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, as I said, are so, so very important
3:23
Again, like gas in the car. Supplements. I'm a big believer in vitamins and supplements
3:28
I don't believe you can get everything you need in a standard three meals a day
3:33
Sometimes you don't get as much of the nutritious stuff that we need. I happen to believe have those supplements
3:38
They make up for some of the things that you don't get. And sometimes they can get the things that bolster you like vitamin D is a huge thing
3:44
that helps you if you don't get out in the sun and in the sun every single day where
3:48
it naturally produces vitamin D for you. So and lastly, hydration. I'm about 200 pounds
3:54
I drink a gallon of water a day. So you want to be drinking a lot of water
3:58
It's so important. Yes, you have to go to the bathroom a lot, but think of it as this way
4:02
You're constantly flushing out your body, the toxins, getting rid of the things you
4:06
don't need. You wouldn't go wash your hands and just wash it with just soap and then not rinse them off
4:12
You got to get rinse off all the dirt and everything. Well, it's the same thing with hydration through your body
4:16
So think about those things. Exercise, meditation, feed your brain, get your sleep, gratitude journal, positive friends
4:23
breathing, diet, supplements and hydration. It can't necessarily do everything you need, but they can take a good shot at curing depression
4:32
I've been down that road before. It is not pleasant. There's some days it's hard to even get out of bed
4:37
And so when you deal with that, try these 10 things. It can make a big difference, but at least give it a shot
4:44
And you may see a difference. So that's the answer. Can gratitude cure depression
4:48
I don't know, but these things can make a difference. Thanks a lot
4:52
I'm that gratitude guy. Remember, be grateful and never quit
