The Amazing Dual Screen ZTE AXON M Phone -- REVIEWED
1K views
May 29, 2025
Oh sure, your Android phone is the best on the market, fast, bright and light. But does it have a second screen you can flip out from the back to turn it into a light and portable tablet? That's the amazing trick of the ZTE AXON M and it works great. Not only that, it turns out that the AXON M is quite a capable Android phone on its own rights too, with a vivid screen, impressive battery life and a 20MP camera that does quite a good job with photos. Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ checks out the ZTE AXON M and finds that there's lots to like about it beyond just the gimmick of dual HD screens... a smartphone with two screens you
0:02
definitely have to check this one out

Dave Taylor here and this time I'm
0:13
looking at a smartphone specifically I'm
0:16
looking at this this is a pretty cool
0:19
device this is the ZTE axon M and it is
0:24
a foldable Android phone
0:26
it's foldable check it out now would the
0:29
screen fold it back just a regular
0:32
Android phone and I can go and do all
0:35
the things you would normally do on
0:36
Android but obviously it's really cool
0:39
trick is that it folds open and now you
0:43
have lots of different modes so this
0:45
they have M mode is what they call it so
0:47
this is mirroring why would you want the
0:50
exact same thing on both screens the
0:53
answer is because then you can do
0:54
something like this and you could for
0:57
example watch a movie and the people on
0:59
the other side could also watch the
1:01
movie I'm not sure when I'd use this but
1:03
it's a really interesting idea the other
1:05
modes are more interesting so you go to
1:07
the bottom you tap on the M and there's
1:10
a dual screen where you get sort of one
1:13
image spread across both screens and
1:15
that looks like this and again now if I
1:19
do something on one screen then both
1:22
screens are still tied together so you
1:24
can see that pretty interesting when you
1:27
get into individual apps let's see I
1:30
will go into let's go into whoops okay
1:34
we can do this so if we go into Google
1:36
then you can see again the app spreads
1:39
across both there's obviously a seam in
1:41
the middle it would have been really
1:42
cool if they didn't have a seam not sure
1:45
how you do that technologically so
1:48
that's mode number two and then mode
1:50
number three is to actually have them be
1:52
independent screens so now you can see
1:56
here I have the app running on one side
1:58
and then I have the Android homepage on
2:00
the other and we can go ahead and launch
2:02
a different app on this side actually I
2:06
think we're already running that app so
2:07
let's go and try try this so now we have
2:12
two different apps run
2:13
on two different sides and of course I
2:15
can turn it sideways and everything
2:17
reorients now where this gets super
2:20
interesting where they're really into it
2:22
is that you can actually do something
2:25
like put TV on the top while you're
2:28
working on the bottom so let's go down
2:30
here and we're back to the bottom and on
2:34
the top sling TV should be running let's
2:36
see what's going on here let's see we
2:41
will go to on now and we will pick some
2:45
soccer whoo that looks good you know
2:49
from previous videos I'm a big soccer
2:51
fan so I'll have a look and hear how is
2:54
this not fantastic I can watch my soccer
2:57
match streaming television on the top
2:59
screen while on the bottom screen I am
3:02
productive for some definition of
3:05
productive super cool and then the boss
3:08
comes along and you're like what no I
3:10
was just working what are you talking
3:11
about boss everything just magically
3:13
closes up and as you can see the back is
3:15
off now the back is automatically off as
3:19
soon as you touch the hinge you can see
3:22
here so let's get this to come back
3:26
let's see so you know as soon as I start
3:30
the hinge it will turn this screen off
3:33
unless I'm in that mirroring AAA mode
3:36
now the fourth way you can do it is and
3:38
I don't know why you would choose this
3:40
you can actually have the second screen
3:41
extended but have it turned off I'm not
3:45
sure what the use case for that one is
3:46
but that's okay really I'm a big fan of
3:50
just having it spread across both
3:51
screens it's just fascinating it's
3:53
really like a sort of fold up tablet so
3:56
modern now before we go too much further
3:58
let me give you some specs on this this
4:00
is running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 1
4:04
which is a 2.1 5 gigahertz quad-core CPU
4:07
not the very latest and greatest but
4:10
still pretty zippy has internal memory
4:13
up to 64 gig and it supports micro sd
4:16
good job ZTE I'm not sure why so many
4:19
companies are moving away from that but
4:21
with this phone you can put in a micro
4:24
SD card up to 256
4:27
that is a lot of data that's a lot of
4:29
movies even like good resolution movies
4:31
now speaking of resolution this is each
4:34
side of this is a 5.2 inch Gorilla Glass
4:37
from Corning and it's running 1920 by
4:40
1080 which is a Full HD resolution yes
4:43
there are higher resolution screens on
4:45
the market but I gotta say this is
4:46
crystal clear and bright and vivid and
4:49
text it's nice and snappy and both sides
4:53
have that same format so very nice
4:56
you're running Android seven new got and
4:58
ZTE says Android eight is on its way
5:01
we'll see when that happens but as of
5:03
now you're still running Android seven
5:06
and who one more spec that's super cool
5:10
is it has a really great battery now
5:13
it's fairly heavy and it's thick now of
5:16
course some of the thickness comes from
5:17
that second screen but even without that
5:19
second screen it's still a little
5:21
thicker and heavier than a regular
5:22
Android phone yeah two screens all the
5:25
circuitry everything you need for it I
5:27
understand I'm just saying the hand feel
5:29
is that it's a little heavier but that
5:32
does include a 3000 180 milliamp hour
5:35
battery which is pretty hefty that gives
5:38
you 28 hours of talk 11 days of standby
5:41
33 hours of playback through the speaker
5:44
system which is surprisingly good or 46
5:47
hours of listening with headphones long
5:49
and short of it at the end of the day
5:51
you'll check your battery life and it'll
5:53
be like oh yeah you got another 20 30
5:55
hours you're cool so I'm really
5:57
impressed with the battery I mean really
5:58
this is a really nice Android phone
6:00
there's a lot they did right however
6:02
actually well hold on so so let's go
6:05
back to the speakers so it's dual
6:07
speakers with Dolby Atmos how they get a
6:10
Dolby sound system into here not
6:12
entirely sure pretty neatly done but one
6:15
of the issues that this phone has is the
6:18
camera right there's no camera on the
6:21
back because you can't have it because
6:22
of this right either it would be here
6:24
and it would be covered up some of the
6:26
time or it would be here and then you'd
6:29
have two forward-facing cameras which is
6:31
great for super narcissistic selfie
6:33
people but not so good for everyone else
6:35
so what they've done is they have the
6:38
camera just forward facing
6:40
and it's a really nice camera it's a 20
6:43
megapixel camera that can shoot 4k video
6:45
to here's an example of a photo I took
6:47
with it it's very nice but the usage is
6:50
a little confusing because I have the
6:53
phone facing me for me to be able to
6:55
take a shot I have to do it this way so
6:57
you get into this sort of weird mode and
6:59
they know that so there's the camera
7:01
software includes some additional
7:02
support for dual screen so you do have
7:06
to choose which one you want to do and
7:08
honestly I don't think that's a big deal
7:10
but if you are super fanatical about
7:13
taking photos this might not be the
7:15
greatest phone for you on the other hand
7:17
when you're looking at photos and
7:19
they're spread across two screens like
7:21
this let's have a quick look and I have
7:24
to get into one big screen mode and
7:27
let's see
7:29
I actually don't seem to have any
7:30
pictures on the phone at this second so
7:32
bad demo sorry but you can imagine if I
7:36
have my picture spread across two
7:37
screens that's much more pleasant to
7:38
look at then looking at the sort of mini
7:40
version like that so you know it's
7:43
trade-offs what else can I tell you
7:45
let's do a quick tour of the ports
7:47
because that's interesting too it does
7:49
have 3.5 millimeter audio out whoot so
7:52
not only micro sd but ZTE also includes
7:56
an audio headphone jack it's a nice
7:58
thing on the side and it's interesting
8:00
because all the side buttons are on the
8:03
left not on the right because if they
8:05
were on the right they'd be in the way
8:06
of the hinge so takes a little getting
8:09
used to using the left side but one cool
8:12
thing is there's an integrated
8:13
fingerprint scanner so if you've scanned
8:15
in your fingerprint you can literally
8:17
just touch the button and it unlocks the
8:19
phone and you're good to go and that's
8:20
actually really nice and then it has
8:23
power and volume up and down and on the
8:25
bottom you can see that it is a USBC
8:30
charger so that's nice too I am so not a
8:34
fan of microUSB I just really just hated
8:37
on pretty much every device I've ever
8:38
used USB sea and lightning are both much
8:41
better because they don't have an
8:42
orientation huge improvement so there's
8:46
that and then I think the other two
8:47
things on the bottom here are the
8:49
speaker vents so there's that and then
8:51
on the very back when you have it
8:53
unhinged there's really nothing there
8:55
because why would they put something
8:58
there given that this thing is designed
8:59
to be closed and open so I mean you
9:02
wouldn't be able to get to it so there's
9:04
that now like I said 8.1 ounces so it's
9:07
it's a little hefty but there's a lot to
9:10
like about this ZTE axon em smartphone
9:13
and I'm becoming quite a fan the more I
9:16
use it the more I'm enjoying it you know
9:18
and every single time I use it out in
9:21
public people come over and are like
9:22
whoa what is that where is that second
9:25
screen come from it feels very
9:27
futuristic it sort of reminds me of the
9:29
tablets they used in the HBO series
9:31
Westworld really it's just cool I mean
9:34
check this out that's just really cool
9:36
and the fact that you can do this mode
9:38
now even if you don't care about what's
9:41
going on there it's really nice you know
9:43
like if it's blank like now now I have a
9:46
built-in stand and I'll tell you there
9:48
are a lot of phones where I wish I had
9:50
this feature but the price of it is no
9:53
camera facing backwards or forwards
9:55
whatever direction that should be and
9:58
obviously you can't use a smart case you
10:01
can't use a dumb case you can't use any
10:02
case this phone is not phone case
10:05
supported so that means there is a tiny
10:07
lil amount of risk because nothing's
10:09
absorbing shock nothing is protecting
10:12
this back screen at a minimum if I had
10:14
this I would definitely go and buy a
10:16
couple of screen protectors to put on
10:17
the front and back screens you might
10:20
lose a little bit of brightness and a
10:22
little bit of clarity but the fact that
10:24
when I'm using my phone I'm doing this
10:25
and I'm just hoping it's not gonna
10:27
scratch gives me the heebie-jeebies on
10:30
an expensive phone now speaking of
10:32
expensive that's really the only thing
10:34
we have left to talk about so before we
10:36
get there though can I ask that you
10:37
click on the subscribe button in the
10:39
corner really appreciate if you can
10:41
subscribe to my channel cool now the
10:44
only thing left to talk about is the
10:45
price and the price comes with a little
10:47
bit of a hook and the hook is you can
10:50
only buy this phone through AT&T
10:52
Wireless currently they're the only
10:54
company that's offering that in the
10:56
United States so ZTE axon em foldable
11:01
Android dual screen
11:04
dual-screen smartphone it's gonna set
11:08
you back 720 $4.99 through AT&T dot-com
11:12
sorry att.com and will it be available
11:17
with other carriers will it be available
11:18
unlocked remains to be seen for now
11:21
you're gonna have to go to your friendly
11:22
AT&T store hopefully they're friendly
11:24
and pick up one if you want to check it
11:26
out so I am become quite a fan of this
11:29
it's a really cool phone this is Dave
11:31
Taylor and I'll catch you in my next
11:33
video
11:42
