Dave Taylor of AskDaveTaylor.com demonstrates how easy it is to use Screen Recording Suite -- http://www.screenrecord.net/ -- to capture and simultaneously narrate what you're doing on your Windows PC, then upload the resultant video to YouTube. Competitors in this space include the considerably more expensive Camtasia.

hi this is Dave Taylor and I want to
0:02
give you a quick demo of screen
0:05
recording suite and I gotta say for
0:08
recording what's going on on your
0:10
computer screen it's pretty darn easy so
0:12
let's go ahead and launch it and I've
0:15
obviously already installed the program
0:16
which includes adding a video driver
0:18
because it needs to be able to capture
0:20
things now here we go here's the main
0:22
menu and as you can see if you really
0:24
want to just jump in and get going it's
0:26
as easy as clicking the start button but
0:29
I'll suggest there are two options that
0:31
you need to adjust and or at least look
0:33
at so let's start with options
0:36
and the first one is as you're seeing
0:38
the cursor has a little yellow circle
0:40
around it as I'm moving around I think
0:43
it's really good on screen captures
0:44
because it helps people see where the
0:46
cursor is if you don't like that you can
0:49
turn that off here with show Mouse
0:51
hotspot or alternatively if you do like
0:54
it but you wish it was bigger you can
0:56
also adjust it with the radius size and
1:00
you can make it bigger smaller whatever
1:02
the other thing I think it's important
1:04
for you to go and check actually well
1:07
let's change one thing here
1:09
okay so I know what function keys what
1:11
the other thing that I think it's
1:14
important to check is your input device
1:16
and it's a little confusing because
1:18
that's under video file this is where
1:20
you can change your output format and
1:22
such I'm going to leave it as a wvm WMV
1:25
file because it works fine but here you
1:29
can make sure it's a system sound or
1:31
microphone and here's what I've found is
1:33
if I do both system sound and microphone
1:36
this third option then I get a sort of
1:38
weird Echo thing and it's distracting
1:40
when I'm recording so I use just
1:42
microphone and seems to work great so
1:45
there are other options I'll let you
1:47
explore them
1:48
so here we are and I'm just going to do
1:51
a real quick little demo and hopefully
1:52
I'll be able to record within a
1:54
recording we'll see how that works so
1:56
I'm going to push start
1:59
and it gives me a heads up on what's
2:01
about to happen and as soon as I'm ready
2:03
then I can do this and say go
2:06
and so now I'm recording and I can say
2:09
for example so here's how you use Google
2:11
Drive once it's installed on your
2:13
desktop you double click to open things
2:15
and there it is and here are the files
2:18
that I have that are part of Google's
2:20
new Google drive system and that's all
2:24
there is to it it's pretty easy and you
2:25
can just close it and use it as like any
2:27
other folder on your computer
2:29
so now I've made that little tiny demo
2:32
video and I want to stop so I push F7
2:35
and now it's finished the recording so I
2:38
can play the recording to preview it but
2:40
what I'm going to do instead I'm going
2:42
to show you real quick I'm going to just
2:43
close this and it's like okay we're good
2:45
so now I'm going to go into my web
2:47
browser
2:49
and I'm going to go to YouTube and
2:52
you're going to this is cool hold on and
2:54
I'm going to go to upload
2:56
and excuse me what I want to show you is
3:00
that I can directly upload the file that
3:02
was just recorded
3:03
so
3:05
if it lets me do this here we go
3:09
so I go to my documents
3:11
I go to screen recording suite and I'm
3:14
noticing my computer slowing down I
3:16
think it's getting confused and I can
3:18
just pick the recording
3:20
and open it
3:22
and as you can see it directly uploads
3:24
to YouTube so in terms of recording and
3:28
just getting a quick demo out there or
3:31
showing tech support or showing your
3:33
friends or your mom here's how to do it
3:35
Mom it's super easy it really couldn't
3:37
be any easier so while this uploads I'm
3:40
going to go ahead and wrap up and if you
3:42
have any other questions or if you're
3:44
just looking for good technical
3:45
information I encourage you of course to
3:48
check out askdavetaylor.com thanks a lot
