Penclic R3 Wireless Ergonomic Mouse - Review

The Penclic R3 Wireless Mouse is ergonomic and unlike any mouse you've ever tried before. Heck, it looks like a pencil, of all things, and you hold it quite unlike a traditional mouse or trackball. But does it work? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ tests it out and finds that the Penclic R3 Wireless Mouse is pretty cool, but might be a better experience on a Windows PC system than a MacOS system, as he explains in this review. 0:13
click hi Dave Taylor here and this time
0:16
I'm looking at the pen click R3 wireless
0:18
mouse that's this guy and you're looking
0:21
at that and thinking uh it doesn't look
0:23
a whole lot like a mouse and you're
0:25
right it's a different sort of ergonomic
0:28
design and it's really pretty
0:29
interesting so on the bottom there's
0:31
actually Optical sensors so I can do
0:34
this and that gets me my regular Mouse
0:36
functions but I can also use this so
0:38
that I can angle it so that it actually
0:41
has the least pain if you have any
0:43
repetitive stress or RSI or anything
0:45
like that going on then you know a
0:47
regular Mouse with that sort of funny
0:49
hand angle even hurts just for me to do
0:52
this gesture but if you're doing that
0:53
for hours a day that could be pretty
0:55
painful and I've watched people in tears
0:58
really debilitated from that sort of
1:00
stuff so the idea of this is it's like
1:02
holding a pencil so you just hold it and
1:05
you move it around and I can see on my
1:07
screen that I have a cursor moving
1:08
around now it's Mac and PC friendly
1:12
because it works with this little guy
1:15
this is what's called a dongle this just
1:16
a little Gizmo that you plug into your
1:19
USB port which Yes means if you're on a
1:22
USBC connection on one of the very
1:24
latest generation of laptops you'll need
1:26
an adapter I have not heard from them
1:29
whether or not they're going to come out
1:30
with the USBC
1:32
dongle my guess is that probably is
1:34
pretty far down the road with their
1:36
product plan but you never know and this
1:39
also has three buttons so here's a
1:42
closeup but the idea is there's sort of
1:44
a left and right button and then the
1:46
middle is the scroll wheel and here's
1:49
the downside the downside is that the
1:51
left and right buttons on a Macintosh at
1:54
least aren't programmable cuz there's no
1:56
software included now when I've worked
1:59
with things like k inton mice it comes
2:01
with software and you can assign
2:03
different buttons to different functions
2:05
which I really like that's when you
2:06
really get a lot of effort savings and a
2:09
lot of benefit but this guy not so much
2:12
so on a Macintosh at least it's really
2:14
the scroll wheel that you can push in
2:16
and that gives you your primary button
2:18
functionality to the point where if I
2:20
want to pull up a context menu or a sort
2:23
of a left click menu I have to hold down
2:26
the let's see which button I hold down
2:28
uh hold down
2:31
the control button while I'm clicking on
2:35
the left button on the mouse on the pen
2:38
click Mouse and that gets me the context
2:41
menu now again this is something I want
2:43
to be able to program I want to be able
2:45
to tell my Mac if I'm using this
2:47
particular mouse that the left click is
2:50
like a control click the right click
2:53
maybe is a shift click or a click and
2:55
hold and then the scroll wheel click is
2:57
a regular Mouse click on a PC you have
3:01
more flexibility cuz PCS are designed
3:03
for three button Bice so you know it's
3:06
going to be a different experience on
3:07
the PC and I will say this is it is
3:10
pretty interesting what I find
3:12
particularly interesting is that my
3:14
tendency is actually to have it upside
3:16
down so that it's my forefinger that's
3:19
on the scroll wheel but if I do this
3:21
guess what's happening on the screen
3:23
it's operating exactly the opposite to
3:26
how I want it on the mouse so I have to
3:29
actually turn it around and have the
3:30
scroll wheel under at least the way I
3:33
hold it under my second finger so that's
3:35
worth knowing too now this operates on a
3:38
single AAA rechargeable battery when you
3:41
charge it it runs for about a month on
3:43
the bottom as you can see here there's
3:45
an on and off switch and there's also
3:48
actually a sensitivity switch and this
3:51
thing can go from 800 to 600 DPI and if
3:55
you have a mouse and you actually know
3:57
this technology you know that having the
4:00
higher resolution isn't necessarily
4:02
better so I would encourage you to
4:03
experiment with different settings to
4:05
see how it goes and that is the pen
4:08
click ergonomic Wireless R3 Mouse from
4:14
pen click now it's $89.99 at pen
4:18
click. but if you go to amazon.com you
4:21
can pick it up for
4:22
$79.99 so either way if you're having
4:25
issues with your mouse with your
4:27
trackpad with your track ball then this
4:30
is a really interesting design and it's
4:32
really something that might work really
4:34
great for you I just wish they had put a
4:37
little more effort into the Macintosh
4:39
software but again that might be no big
4:41
deal to you so this is Dave Taylor and

wait before you go if you could click on
