The truly wireless headphone category is dominated by Apple's AirPods, with their small form factor, long battery life, and solid sound. That doesn't mean other companies aren't vying to dethrone the king and take over, and that's exactly what Crazybaby has with the Air 1S truly wireless headphones. But are they better than Apple's offering? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ has a close look at the Crazybaby Air 1S and finds that there's lots to like about them, but... yeah, you knew there was going to be a "but", right? Watch and find out the final judgment. Check 'em out at https://www.crazybaby.com/

wireless headphones how do they compare
0:01
with the Apple air pops Dave Taylor here
0:11
and I'm looking at wireless headphones
0:13
you know the little tiny earbuds you put
0:15
in your ears and there's no other wires
0:17
there's nothing right
0:18
obviously the reference mark here are
0:20
these these are the Apple earpods and
0:23
these are pretty sweet devices so let's
0:26
compare them with this these are the
0:29
crazy baby air 1s this is the second
0:33
generation of the crazy baby air and I
0:36
wanted to keep it in the box to start
0:37
because they've done such a good job
0:39
with their packaging I want to do a
0:40
little mini unboxing so we will pull the
0:44
box out from its sleeve and then you
0:47
whoop stand there well we'll see maybe
0:50
this won't be cooperative come on how
0:55
hard can it be just and there we go
0:57
so now I'll open the box and it's all
0:59
like modern boxes are so tightly
1:02
engineered it's very nice and there is
1:05
the charging unit so this is the crazy
1:09
baby and in the packaging it also comes
1:12
with sticker so in case you want to put
1:15
stickers on your car with the crazy baby
1:17
logo and a booklet and underneath that
1:21
there are some little hidden things in
1:23
the very bottom there is a USB C
1:26
charging cable which I suppose I can
1:28
take out so you can see what it is
1:29
and there are a ton of ear tips so it
1:34
includes a set of three different sizes
1:38
of silicone ear tips and in the little
1:41
silver bags are what they call their
1:43
sport sleeves which is literally rubber
1:46
that goes around the entire ear piece
1:48
now let's put all that aside because I
1:51
know what you really want to see is
1:52
what's inside this tube and it opens up
1:55
like that and there you can see these
1:59
are the air 1s and you pull them off and
2:02
here's the design pretty straightforward
2:04
they are ridiculously light they are 4.5
2:08
grams which is 0.16 ounces per earbud
2:12
and then the face charging tube is 80
2:16
grams which is just under three ounces
2:18
and it's five inches long so it's pretty
2:21
big some reviewers have observed that it
2:25
might have an appearance similar to
2:28
other sorts of products I will let you
2:30
draw your own conclusions it's good
2:33
either way and I want to say these are
2:36
bluetooth 4.2 and one of the things that
2:38
have seen other reviewers complained
2:39
about is the initial bluetooth pairing
2:42
process I had zero problems with this
2:45
I'm not sure what they were all cranky
2:47
about because you take them out the very
2:49
first time it says put them in here
2:51
charge it all up there's a teeny tiny
2:53
little light at the end that you can
2:56
probably miss if you don't actually
2:57
inspect this thing but that shows you
3:00
the status of the charge now since the
3:03
earpieces themselves are charging it's
3:06
showing me yellow and that also is
3:08
telling me that the base unit needs a
3:10
little bit of charge too so you plug in
3:12
the USB see you charge it until that
3:15
light goes out and then you're good to
3:17
go
3:17
now with the earpieces themselves they
3:21
flash a slow read when they're charging
3:23
and when they're done charging the light
3:25
goes off so that's all pretty easy let's
3:27
see maybe this will hold it up there we
3:30
go so it's all pretty straightforward to
3:32
work with and the initial pairing you
3:34
put them in you push both buttons
3:35
simultaneously you could hear them pair
3:39
to each other and then you keep holding
3:41
down the right button and it goes into
3:44
pairing mode go onto your smartphone
3:46
this is an Apple iPhone 10 go onto your
3:49
smart phone go into Bluetooth find the
3:50
earbuds you're done that's it easy it's
3:53
really pretty much the same pairing
3:55
process I've had with hundreds of other
3:57
Bluetooth items again not so sure why
4:00
people are complaining about it I think
4:02
there's not a story there so let's talk
4:05
about some charging issues since we're
4:07
talking about charging then I will tell
4:10
you that let's see this is right there's
4:12
teeny tiny letters on it so each of
4:14
these runs about three hours and as with
4:18
anything that's wireless and anything
4:20
that's running off of a battery it
4:22
depends on what you listen to and how
4:24
loud you listen to it
4:25
again this is just like basic 101 stuff
4:28
with these wireless devices if you
4:30
listen to your music at a hundred
4:32
percent volume and it's crazy loud music
4:35
it's gonna eat up your battery faster
4:37
than if you're listening at 50 percent
4:39
and it's something very chill okay
4:41
so best-case scenario three hours for
4:44
these you put them back in they go right
4:47
in easily enough and now it's charging
4:50
again and this will give you a total of
4:52
12 hours of battery you know with these
4:55
intermittent charges back onto the base
4:57
unit off of a single full charge on the
5:00
actual base unit so 12 hours is pretty
5:03
nice and what's cool is they also have
5:06
what they call it fast charge so when
5:08
you put it in if you leave them in for
5:10
five minutes then the earpieces will
5:12
actually get a 20% charge a boost so if
5:15
your earpieces are telling you that
5:17
they're dying and it does that with this
5:18
like dunk these little sound and you're
5:21
like what that wasn't in the music it's
5:23
telling you you're a battery your
5:25
batteries are dead and your earpiece is
5:27
about to die so put them in here let it
5:30
sit for five minutes and then you got a
5:32
20% charge which is going to be good for
5:34
another 15 20 minutes or there abouts
5:36
obviously you really want to put these
5:39
in and just let them charge as long as
5:40
they want pretty straightforward let's
5:44
see what else can I tell you so the
5:46
actual earpieces the technology with
5:50
them these are carbon nanotube
5:52
diaphragms which gives you eight to
5:54
forty four oh sorry eight to twenty four
5:57
thousand Hertz response that's pretty
5:59
nice and that eight Hertz that's
6:01
important because they do have a digital
6:03
signal processor giving them a little
6:05
extra bass boost so that can give you a
6:09
little bass heavy I didn't find it that
6:12
bad at all but you know there is a crazy
6:15
baby app you can get which then on the
6:18
phone lets you actually adjust the EQ so
6:21
if it's a little too much bass for you
6:23
you can turn it down and frankly if it's
6:25
not enough bass and you're just someone
6:27
who's really into that electronic music
6:29
with those 75 Hertz tones and all that
6:32
you can crank that way up and just sit
6:34
there or feel really uncomfortable it is
6:37
totally cooled syrup
6:38
right and no one else has to hear it
6:40
cause you have earbuds well played so
6:42
much better than the old days when
6:44
people had those boom boxes so glad
6:46
those days are gone and so let me tell
6:50
you one other thing is that if they have
6:51
what they call 3d virtual surround sound
6:53
and it's supposed to give you more of a
6:55
spatial sense or soundstage the fancy
6:57
words for this and I made a phone call
7:00
with these and it was kind of weird
7:02
because I'm used to on the vast majority
7:04
of these devices when you make a phone
7:06
call you get it only out of the right
7:08
year so sort of simulating holding a
7:10
whole phone up but with this both years
7:12
were not only doing that but I was
7:14
getting this spatial sense of the other
7:16
caller and it was disconcerting at first
7:20
I was like am I on speakerphone and
7:22
these aren't working at all and then I
7:23
realized they were working but they were
7:26
placing the speaker's sort of orally in
7:28
front of me which was really interesting
7:30
now on the other end they said that it
7:33
sounded okay it wasn't great but until I
7:37
said something I don't think they were
7:38
aware that I was on particularly you
7:40
know a different or unusual device so I
7:42
would give this probably a solid B for
7:45
phone calls which is important and you
7:47
know that's a tricky thing to do when
7:49
the earpiece is let me put one in I'll
7:51
show you when the earpieces don't really
7:53
go out of your ear so that's a long way
7:56
to go from here to your voice but you
7:59
put them in and I haven't actually
8:00
turned them on yet because I have to
8:02
push the button to do that but as you
8:04
can see in this close-up they fit neatly
8:06
in your ear and they're pretty snug so I
8:10
feel like I could really be jumping up
8:12
and down and running up and you know
8:14
doing all sorts of active sports
8:16
activities and they would definitely
8:18
stay in my ear now I will say that they
8:21
are IP X 6 so their sweat and
8:24
water-resistant but you don't want to
8:26
wear these swimming and you don't want
8:28
to wear these surfing because you'll
8:29
probably lose them or you'll probably
8:30
damage them because they're not designed
8:32
for immersion in water just for like
8:34
splashes and sweat dripping down and
8:36
things like that so other interesting
8:39
thing is that they really differentiate
8:43
between right and left ear not only in
8:45
the shape and design but in the
8:46
functionality of the button they each
8:48
have a slightly recessed button on the
8:51
which is easy to get to once you sort of
8:53
get the hang of putting these in your
8:54
ear but as you can see in this chart
8:57
there are different functions by tapping
8:59
or double tapping or tapping and holding
9:01
the right button versus the left button
9:04
so that takes a little getting used to
9:06
and for volume control you're still on
9:09
your device there's no way to do volume
9:11
up and volume down so it goes now let's
9:14
see not much else to talk about so USBC
9:17
connector the real issue is frankly you
9:21
know given that it's the same price as
9:23
the Apple earpods is it better is it
9:26
worth getting instead of the Apple
9:27
product now the Apple product the design
9:31
of the earpieces is clearly different
9:33
you know there's a very different style
9:36
here but to me the bigger issue is the
9:38
size of the charging unit I mean there's
9:42
a lot of difference in the size of these
9:44
two things here this one can really
9:46
trivially sit in your pocket but this
9:49
one it's kind of hard then if you're
9:51
like on a busy train or something it's
9:53
gonna be awkward to get this to open it
9:55
up and to put your units in without
9:57
dropping them so I think that I really
10:01
actually like the crazy baby air 1s the
10:04
sound quality is good it's really quite
10:06
enjoyable to listen to as always make
10:09
sure that you choose the correct sized
10:12
ear tips because that will make a world
10:15
of difference but you know the sound is
10:19
good they work good with phone calls
10:20
they have a good battery life the 3d
10:24
virtual surround sound is really
10:27
interesting on phone calls
10:28
lots to like about it the issue is is it
10:32
better than the Apple product given that
10:35
they're about the same price and to me
10:37
the answers got to be kind of not really
10:40
so these are really good unto themselves
10:43
but if I had the choice between the two
10:45
and given they're the same price I would
10:46
go with the Apple ones just because it's
10:49
so much smaller and that makes it so
10:51
much more convenient but if you like
10:54
trying third party products if you like
10:56
experimenting and exploring with
10:57
different tech then this crazy baby air
11:00
1s is a pretty darn interesting option
11:02
now before I tell you the price
11:05
although we've sort of been hinting at
11:06
the price but before I actually tell you
11:08
the price let me ask if you can
11:10
subscribe to my channel really really
11:12
helpful great now this crazy baby air 1s
11:17
let's maybe do it this way this crazy
11:22
baby air 1s with charging base and
11:24
everything will set you back a hundred
11:27
and $59 at crazy baby calm and it comes
11:31
in this gray and it also comes in silver
11:33
so I say check it out but you know if
11:37
you like Apple products I think this
11:39
might be a better choice if you are not
11:41
an Apple fan or you really want to do
11:43
something in Android or Windows where
11:45
it's just outside of that whole Apple
11:47
ecosystem then this is a quite viable
11:49
choice so this is Dave Taylor I'm gonna
11:53
go back to my music at 50% volume and
11:55
I'll catch you in my next video
