There are lots of companies that claim to have noise cancellation as part of their headphones, but Cleer has moved into the elite ranks with its excellent active noise cancellation in the Cleer FLOW headphones. A hybrid design gives you very good audio reproduction and a touch-sensitive earpiece control, along with solid bluetooth performance and a 20 hour battery life. But all is not perfect with these headphones, as tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ learned when he spent a few weeks with the Cleer Flow headphones... great noise cancellation make these
0:01
wicked cool headphones let's check them
0:04
out Dave Taylor here and I want to talk
0:13
about headphones now I work in a lot of
0:15
noisy environments because there's a lot
0:17
of ambient noise everywhere obviously
0:19
airplanes trains cars all that sort of
0:23
stuff Transport has a lot of noise but
0:25
just the general world around us is
0:27
actually gotten a lot noisier than it
0:29
used to be I like to work in quiet so I
0:32
really am looking for really good active
0:35
noise-cancelling headphones and these
0:37
are the latest on my radar these are the
0:39
clear flow wireless hybrid active
0:42
noise-cancelling headphones and they are
0:45
actually really really cool they got so
0:48
much right there's a lot I want to tell
0:50
you about these but let's start with the
0:52
fact that it's high res audio and aptX
0:54
and AAC bluetooth 4.2 with NFC then I
0:58
will say that the Bluetooth has a really
1:01
excellent range I have worn these and
1:03
just walked around the house even into
1:05
different rooms and using my iPhone 10
1:07
as the base for the Bluetooth
1:09
transmission never had a hiccup never
1:11
had a cutoff never had anything I can
1:13
actually hear the music out of my
1:15
headphones right now so I turned it off
1:17
comes with a 1.2 meter cable see what
1:21
else comes with it comes with a micro
1:22
USB charging cable a pouch you can see
1:25
this this is a hard case which some
1:28
people like other people not so much
1:31
comes with extra rings and an in-flight
1:33
adapter if you're on a plane that has
1:35
that double plug I don't actually see
1:37
many of those on planes anymore but what
1:40
do I mean by the Rings so when you look
1:42
on the side there's a very distinctive
1:44
design and this ring actually it comes
1:46
with a different set of different ones
1:48
so you can pop these rings off and you
1:52
can put on different ones which I
1:53
presume also means that if you wanted to
1:55
you could take these off and paint them
1:58
and then put them back and then they
2:00
would actually you know give you a very
2:02
unique look now they don't recommend
2:04
painting them but it's not gonna affect
2:06
anything it's not a big deal and mostly
2:08
it's a magnet that's keeping it in place
2:10
let's see what else so
2:12
you can see that they are somewhat
2:15
foldable you know the actual earpieces
2:18
actually do this so that's nice and the
2:22
music has started again because one of
2:24
the issues here with these headphones is
2:26
that the left can this metal part
2:31
actually is touch sensitive which is
2:33
nice but it's really sensitive so I find
2:36
that I'm constantly actually touching it
2:38
and getting things to change rather
2:40
unexpectedly so let's come back to that
2:42
so it is hybrid noise cancelling which
2:45
means that not only does it have active
2:47
noise canceling it also has what they
2:48
call ambient mode so you can see in this
2:51
close-up here the three buttons that are
2:54
on the left side right basically where
2:56
your thumb would go not a fan of the
3:00
placement there but again we'll come
3:01
back to that so one of them is power
3:04
on/off and hold push and hold you get to
3:06
go pairing the other one is active
3:09
noise-cancelling on and off and yes if
3:11
you turn it on then turn your headphones
3:13
off then turn the headphones on again
3:16
it'll be on so it stays on to whatever
3:18
position you left it then they have this
3:20
mystery ambient mode so I've tried in a
3:23
couple of different settings and what
3:24
the company tells me is this is supposed
3:26
to turn active noise down so you still
3:29
have noise cancellation but it's not as
3:31
much and so that means that like if
3:34
you're listening to music and someone
3:35
starts talking to you you can push the
3:37
ambient button and then you can hear
3:39
them a little better now in my
3:41
experience there's just something
3:42
inherently rude about talking to someone
3:44
while I have headphones on even if I can
3:46
hear them it still is just a sort of
3:49
weird experiences so my default behavior
3:52
is take my headphones off which ends up
3:54
being a problem because of the touch on
3:58
the side so I take my headphones off and
4:01
as I'm doing that I'm actually changing
4:03
settings or as I just did I'm pushing
4:06
the button to turn off the noise
4:07
canceling so when you're taking it off
4:09
it's not a big deal but then you go and
4:11
you put them back on and you get them
4:12
back to where you want and they're not
4:15
in the same setting sometimes so then
4:17
you have to actually mess with it and
4:18
figure out did I turn off noise
4:19
canceling have I gone to the next track
4:22
did I pause it by double tapping so
4:24
there's a whole user
4:26
experience peace with these that I think
4:28
is a little bit weak but let me just
4:31
again keep talking so has incoming call
4:34
handling I tried making a phone call
4:36
with someone on this and they said it
4:38
sounded excellent they were really
4:39
impressed so that was nice
4:41
again there's that sort of acoustic
4:43
experience of talking to someone on the
4:45
phone when you have really enclosed or
4:48
immersive headphones I'm not a big fan
4:50
of that so I would rather use something
4:52
maybe just a one ear and this doesn't
4:54
really have like DJ mode where you can
4:56
flip one earpiece off
4:58
that's up to you you can decide
5:00
obviously noise cancelling and stuff is
5:02
all automatically disabled for a phone
5:04
call as you would expect
5:05
and let's see little more specs so
5:08
they're using what they call their iron
5:10
list forty millimeter drivers which
5:12
gives you 20 to 20,000 Hertz through
5:14
Bluetooth and here's what's cool is if
5:16
you plug in with what an actual physical
5:18
wire you get twenty to forty thousand
5:21
Hertz so you get a lot more highs but
5:24
that's way above what the vast majority
5:26
of people can hear my experience with
5:28
this with Bluetooth is that it has a
5:30
lovely sound really nice there's a big
5:33
soundstage a nice bass response and just
5:36
the overall experience of listening to
5:39
music with these is so good that when I
5:41
get to certain songs I actually have
5:43
been taking them off and giving them to
5:44
other people and say here listen see
5:46
what you think and then their response
5:47
is usually whoa these are really nice so
5:51
you know clear got so much right with
5:54
these oh and 20 hours of playback on a
5:56
charge that is plenty enough for you to
5:59
fly from New York to Tokyo without
6:01
having to worry about your headphones
6:02
dying with active noise-cancelling on
6:04
the whole time really nice so much the
6:08
clear got right I really like these
6:10
headphones they're comfortable for at
6:12
least an hour or two and then you might
6:14
want to take a minute or twos break
6:15
because they're a little bit clampy for
6:18
my size cabeza and every single time I
6:23
put these headphones back on the music
6:25
starts up again interestingly though
6:27
every time I take them off the music
6:29
pauses so that's kind of cool so there's
6:31
some sort of sensor that they have
6:32
they're doing that so lots to like about
6:37
this you know these really are a strong
6:39
competitor like the Bose if you're gonna
6:41
be taking a long plane flight these
6:43
could be an excellent choice and they're
6:45
not super budget but I guess it depends
6:48
on what you compare them to you know the
6:50
biggest criticism I have is just the
6:52
design of all the controls I know that
6:55
it's very trendy to have like the you
6:58
know sensor where you can go up for
7:00
greater volume and you can go forward to
7:02
the next track and DoubleTap to pause
7:04
and all this and that's really cool
7:06
except somehow it gets in the way of me
7:08
taking them on and off and I think part
7:11
of that is because the buttons are put
7:13
on the wrong place now other headphones
7:15
I have the buttons are on the right can
7:18
and that seems to work better for me at
7:20
least I'm right-handed and it might just
7:22
be that when I take things off or put
7:25
things on that I'm more comfortable
7:26
moving my thumb in the to the right
7:29
place I don't know this might just be me
7:32
I might be the only one in the universe
7:34
that has this issue but for me the clear
7:36
flow are really great except the
7:39
controls are a little clumsy
7:40
so before I get to the price let me ask
7:43
if you wouldn't mind clicking on that
7:45
subscribe button
7:46
I really appreciate picking up new
7:48
subscribers and you get to keep up on
7:50
all the great new gear I get to play
7:52
with so with that clear flow Wireless
