The Budget Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite -- REVIEWED

May 29, 2025
There's lots to like in the new Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite with its bright 8-inch screen and speedy performance, but the best feature is its price. Considering all the tech jammed into the device - including a fingerprint scanner and dual Harman Kardon speakers - it's quite a bargain and perfect for most everyone. Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ checks out this Android-based tablet from Huawei and finds that it's lighter in specs than the MediaPad M3 "not lite", but still quite a good performer... you'll want to check this out it's a
0:01
gorgeous Android tablet Dave Taylor here
0:12
and I'm going to start this tablet
0:13
review a little different to normal
0:15
because I want to start right out by
0:17
listening to the music and the audio of
0:20
this huawei media pad m3 light it's an 8
0:24
inch tablet running Android but let's
0:27
just jump straight to music so I'm gonna
0:28
go into google play music and we'll just
0:31
play some jazz it is loud it is very
0:38
pleasant now pause that there's no bass
0:42
there's just you can't push bass out of
0:45
something this small I mean it's thin
0:47
there's nowhere to put a speaker that
0:48
actually has a decent sized driver
0:50
that's ok because it does such a good
0:53
job otherwise at the fact if you just
0:55
leave it sitting on the table it
0:57
actually sounds quite good this is
0:59
something where it's loud enough as you
1:00
heard to fill your room I mean who would
1:03
think that a tablet could actually do
1:04
something like that but the reason for
1:07
that is that Huawei paired up with
1:09
Harman Kardon and Harman Kardon has been
1:11
making audio gear for a really long time
1:13
they make really great stuff so between
1:17
all of those smart engineers they have
1:19
created something that surprisingly
1:21
sounds really good it even has two
1:23
little tiny speakers at the bottom that
1:26
somehow managed to give you really good
1:28
audio now there's a lot more to like
1:31
about this than just that however one of
1:33
which is like I said it's running
1:35
Android this is Android 7.0 nougat and
1:38
on top of it Huawei runs their own UI
1:41
called emui this is version 5.1 on this
1:44
and this is the lite version so it's
1:47
screen resolution is 1920 by 1200
1:50
there's also the Huawei media pad m3 non
1:55
lite version and that one's a lot more
1:58
expensive but it gives you much better
2:00
specs it's faster the screens almost
2:03
double the resolution this is the little
2:05
guy this is the lower-cost one and this
2:07
one's still pretty darn nice so on the
2:10
bottom it's not the home
2:12
if you are from an iPad world you might
2:14
think that's what it is it's a
2:15
fingerprint scanner super easy way to
2:17
unlock it once you've been added your
2:19
fingerprint and then so then the home
2:22
button and stuff actually is on the
2:23
bottom and it stays there even when you
2:26
reorient which takes a tiny bit of
2:28
getting used to if you're used to that
2:30
swinging around but pretty
2:32
straightforward to work with let's see
2:34
it's based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon
2:37
435 which is an octa-core chip and has
2:42
three gigabytes of RAM only 16 gig of
2:45
memory which is not a whole lot and for
2:48
reasons I don't fully understand you
2:50
look you hope you don't see any ability
2:54
to put another card in there so you
2:55
really sort of locked into that 16 gigs
2:57
of memory that's a bit of a drag I wish
3:00
there was actually a way to just put in
3:02
a little micro sd or something maybe the
3:04
next generation so 16 gig of memory like
3:07
I said and the dimensions it's about 5
3:10
inches by about just a smidge more than
3:13
8 inches and it's a third of an inch
3:15
thick weighs just over pound it's very
3:18
very portable very easy to work with and
3:21
you know what let's look at some video
3:22
too because I want you to see that it
3:24
does a really good job with video too so
3:26
this is streaming off of Amazon Prime
3:30
video and I realize this is a sub
3:32
optimal viewing environment but you can
3:35
see it's a bright vivid colorful screen
3:38
it's easily keeping up with the video
3:41
and this is a full HD image because
3:43
Amazon can push that out and this screen
3:45
can definitely display it so very nice
3:48
and the other thing to notice audio it's
3:51
good it's loud it works really well put
3:54
this in a nice little holder and you
3:56
could easily just have it sitting on
3:57
your table or right by your desk and you
4:01
could be watching sports or Netflix or
4:03
Amazon or whatever super easy this is
4:07
the show Britannia if you're curious by
4:09
the way and just a lot I really like
4:13
about this it's just the Huawei has done
4:16
a really nice job really getting this
4:18
down to the essentials now it does have
4:21
let's see if we do a quick tour of the
4:23
ports there is an audio
4:25
you X Jack yay you don't have to use
4:28
Bluetooth of course it does have
4:29
bluetooth and it has volume up/down and
4:32
the power button and on the bottom it
4:35
charges by a microUSB and there's a tiny
4:39
microphone I assume and a bunch of holes
4:42
because that's where the speaker is and
4:44
that's pretty much everything you need
4:46
from the actual device it has a camera I
4:49
don't honestly see people using the
4:51
rear-facing or front-facing camera that
4:53
much but you know on the other hand you
4:56
do see people at concerts and at school
4:58
events and stuff where they're doing
4:59
this and they're making video you can do
5:01
that here's an example of a photo I took
5:04
with it and it's pretty nice you know
5:06
it's not a five or six hundred dollar
5:08
iPad this is a much lower price but it's
5:12
a really nice unit and if you love the
5:15
Android world and you just really want
5:17
to have an Android with a much bigger
5:19
screen this is a really good choice so
5:22
before I tell you the price and I'm sure
5:24
you'll be surprised by it before I tell
5:26
you the price let me just ask if you can
5:27
click on that subscribe button really
5:30
appreciate if you can subscribe cool now
5:33
how much does this believe it or not one
5:35
hundred and eighty five bucks in Amazon
5:37
all right one hundred and eighty five
5:38
ninety at amazon.com this is the huawei
5:43
media pad m3 light I think it's
5:46
definitely worth checking out if you're
5:48
looking for a non iPad tablet it's a
5:51
really nice choice this is Dave Taylor
5:54
and I'll catch you in my next video
