This device lets you feed your pet the smart home way
0:10
Dave Taylor here and I'm checking out this. This is the Nui Pet Feeder and it is a smart home product
0:16
So it not only dispenses a specific amount of food on a specific schedule
0:21
but you can actually work with it through Alexa, through Google Home
0:26
and through, of course, their own app. Now, I will say that setup is ridiculously easy
0:32
So it took me, I don't know, 30 seconds to do the full setup in the new E app
0:38
It found the device, everything configured. Super easy to work with. But let's just go straight to feed
0:44
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to push the feed button. So it dispensed a single amount of the food that I have in there
0:54
And you can see it's a pretty small portion. So one of the things you can do is you can have it do one, two or three portions on each feeding and up to 10 feedings a day on a schedule
1:08
So you can have one early in the morning and then a really big one in the middle of the afternoon and then a very small one in the evening if that works for your pet
1:17
And there's so much you can do here. So let me go ahead and I'll just turn on the recording and show you the screen
1:24
So here you can see that I have. have a schedule let's go and tap on schedule and you can see on 8 30 every morning I do one
1:33
portion size so if I want to add to that I can just say all right well let's say at noon
1:39
so 12 o'clock we'll teach our cat to be on schedule here and we'll do this on every day
1:47
so I think it's already chosen and then portion size we'll do the big meal of the day
1:52
and you see wow you can do you do a lot of portions let's just do it let's just do
1:57
That seems good. Confirm and save. And so now I have two scheduled feedings with this device
2:06
And I can even look at a feeding history to see how it went. And one thing that's really important is I have a power cord because it plugs in
2:16
But the good news is that it has a battery backup Underneath here there are 3D batteries that I put in You will have to get them yourself But if you lose power for half an hour
2:28
your pet is not going to come and complain to you because it will continue to be on schedule
2:34
Now, let me show you on the front here. There are these three lights and two buttons
2:40
So there's some limited controls you can do without having it connected to anything
2:46
And then you can pop. Open the top and the top of course is where you put in the food and that's easy to work with and I can put in some more food
2:55
Keep my cat happy and so it's all ready to go and they have a little container on the top here and it comes with
3:04
What is this? This is a silica packet so this removes humidity
3:08
So the idea is that you open this you put it in here and then when you have the food sitting in this unit
3:16
it's not going to get humid, so it's not going to get moldy and it's not going to get buggy or anything
3:21
So that's really nice. They say you should replace this about every 30 days, but I would say that's very much dependent on the
3:29
environment you live in. So if you're in a low humidity area like we are here in Colorado, that's not going to be a big deal
3:36
The capacity here is 3.8 liters. That's a lot of food. So I would say for my use, I would be filling it maybe a third and then just remember
3:46
remember to fill it like every week or so. But if you have a couple of cats or you're putting
3:50
out larger portions or something, then you might want to do this more often. But enough talk. So
3:56
I invited my cat up to see how it would go if I gave him some food. And well, let's just watch
4:05
the video. Suffice to say that did not go exactly as I planned but you know it so hard to work exactly as I planned but you know it so hard to work with these younger actors But you can see where if I just left him alone with the food and the feeder then over time he get more comfortable with it
4:55
And over more time, he'd actually start to build that into his internal clock
5:00
And what I've heard from other owners of this unit is that your cats actually know when it's feeding time
5:06
And they'll just sort of make their way over to the new EPAP feeder
5:10
it'll dispense the food and they're like yeah I'm right here I'm ready to eat so
5:14
really really cool and it does have things like it will notify you on your phone
5:20
if it has a jam so you don't you know wonder why your cat's really cranky and
5:25
there's no food in the bowl and it's because they haven't actually eaten in five days
5:28
so you will get notifications for that I will say that it works better with
5:34
smaller food they say that your food should be two to 20 millimeters so if you have a
5:40
big husky. This is not the unit for you. They have, you know, different companies make bigger
5:44
feeders. This is the newie one. This is perfect for cats. And I would say small to maybe medium
5:50
dogs, depending on what you feed them. And dimensions wise, it is 13.3 inches by 13.7 inches by
5:58
6.8 inches. And I should point out that the bowl comes out and then sort of do it this way
6:06
the whole feeding thing comes off. And then you can also take this apart so you can clean it, which is really important
6:15
And then since we have it this way, I can show you underneath, this is where you put the D batteries
6:20
And you can see the power cord snaking right off the corner there. And it's, you know, conceptually a really, really simple device
6:27
But they've done a terrific job implementing it all. And I have to say, I think it's really funny, the idea that like your cat comes up to you
6:35
and is complaining. So you ask Alexa to feed the cat. I mean, this is the ultimate in smart
6:40
home living. So nothing wrong with that. The whole unit without any food and it's about four and a
6:46
half pounds. So it's pretty easy to move around. And this again, you know, for grandma, if you're
6:52
going on a road trip for a couple of days, if you're cat sitting and you're not used to feeding them
6:57
three times a day, you feed your cat three times a day. You can feed the cat three times a day
7:02
So super easy to work with We really love this thing We have our own cat Obviously you know we have multiple cats And I pretty sure the more we use this the more they going to be excited about this device
7:16
Right now, it's definitely strange and new. But that sound of food going into the bowl is pretty intriguing
7:23
Now, we just need one for water. But that's another, you know, a whole other topic
7:27
And they do have those too from different companies. But we're looking at this
7:31
So I need to tell you. price but before I get to the price I'm gonna ask if you could subscribe to my
7:36
channel really would appreciate that click on that subscribe button click on the
7:40
little bell icon to get notifications turned on we're connected if this was
7:45
useful and interesting give me a like appreciate that too and that's pretty much
7:50
everything we can talk about so I suppose what we should do is we talk about the
7:54
price but I can't resist we'll do one more dispense ready I'm gonna do three
8:00
portions let's see how much that is Okay, where's my cat when I need him
8:13
So, how much is this thing? Well, the Nui pet feeder is $99, but there's a 20% discount right now on Amazon
8:22
bringing it down to a remarkably affordable $799. Now, that's probably no more than the cost of a bag of your food for your pet
8:30
and this will change your life. If you need to take off at six in the morning
8:36
and you can't get home till 5 p.m. And you want to make sure that Fifi or Fluffer or Butterball
8:42
whatever the heck your name of your pet is, you want to make sure that they are fed, not one huge bowl that they can gorge on
8:48
but small amounts of food over time. This is absolutely the exact device that you want
8:53
It's easy to work with, easy to clean. And over time, your pet will grow to appreciate it
9:00
That's all I got. I gotta go find my cat so she can actually eat the food
9:05
So I'll catch you in my next video
