People put a lot of effort into finding the right gear, but how much time do you spend shopping for the right bag to carry it all safely? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ pulled open a MobileEdge ECO Laptop Messenger Bag to see how it was designed, then stuffed it with gear to see how it worked. Great news is that it safely lets you carry around up to a 17.3-inch laptop, full size tablet, and much more, but there's a design issue that proved a limitation too. Then again, in a world where messenger bags typically cost over $100, the price tag on this MobileEdge bag is a winner too...

Is this your next messenger bag? Let's open it up and have a look
0:11
Dave Taylor here, and I'm looking at this. It's really nice. This is the Mobile Edge Eco Laptop Messenger. And as you can see, it's kind of dark looking, but there's a lot going on here. This is the charcoal color. I guess black's even darker
0:25
But there's a lot of gear that I already have in here. But before we even open it, let me just point it
0:29
out it has a very nice rubberized handle it has a padded shoulder strap it comes with this swanky
0:38
place to put your business card you can clip that anywhere you want but whatever you want to see what's
0:44
inside i know you do so let's start with the front so nice big strong buckles you open it up
0:51
and first off there's a zippered container here there are actually fewer zippered or ceiling containers
0:58
than I wish there were, but we'll come back to that. And pens, I got business cards stashed in here
1:06
There's more pockets on this side, and then you get to the main pocket
1:11
So before we go there, though, let me just show you. There's another pocket here, and these are deep pockets
1:16
There's a big pocket here, plenty of space for you to put gear, and then you open it up
1:21
Let me just sort of give you a view. Open it up. Here's my tablet
1:26
Here's my laptop. headphones and wires and everything And I know you can see all of that so let pull things out Tablet right And in the middle section now you can see hopefully that I have charging cable
1:41
I have headphones. And then you take the next Velcro strip off and you have a padded compartment designed
1:49
specifically for tablets or laptops up to 17.3 inch. So this is not that big a laptop, but it fits in handily and it's very safe and secure
2:00
which I like. So really lots of storage space here and then you go on to the very back and let's
2:07
spin this around because there's like a secret superpower here. Lift up this flap and there's a
2:15
whole other container and I even have a game in there because you never know when you can play a game
2:19
right. So another huge space. There's a lot of space in this. Also a padded back so when I put it on
2:27
and I'm wearing it, carrying it typically like this, the padding is going right against my hip, so that's very nice
2:35
Obviously, all of this is adjustable, and so all very nice, very nice messenger bag
2:41
What's eco about it? What's eco is this material is actually a cotton canvas
2:47
so it is water resistant, and as you can see from like the flap that covers up this exterior
2:54
this is more of a nylon, and it definitely, It only feels like if I get caught in the rain, I'm probably fine
3:00
And even here, these little side spaces, there's actually material here. It doesn just lead right into the center where you could have water drip in So what else can I tell you Custom fasteners The rubberized handle I already mentioned very convenient because you can always have it over your shoulder
3:19
Right. And here's one really cool thing. Lifetime warranty. So if this thing starts to fall apart or you get a cut on it or something, then Mobile Edge is going to stand behind it and help you out
3:30
That is a really wonderful thing. So that's what I got. This is the
3:35
mobile edge eco laptop messenger and I go through a lot of computer bags because I travel a lot and I
3:42
just really have my system and have where I like things to be and how I like things to be. So I got to
3:49
say there's a lot I really like about this but as I said earlier there aren't that many compartments
3:56
that actually seal. There's this one with the zipper and then there's this one on the back with the
4:02
flap, but that's about it. Everything else actually has like a Velcro clothes or a flap over it or something
4:13
but I really like having things that zip clothes because a lot of what I carry are very small devices
4:19
little adapters, things like that. And if for some reason I picked it up and it went like this
4:25
I'm always afraid that all these little bits are going to fall out and I'm not going to notice. So that's the only thing I don't like about this. It's a really nice message
4:32
I think it's at a really good price point. I think it would be great for a lot of people
4:37
But for me I really wish I going to just talk to them directly make these like zipper clothes or velcro all the way across the top or something or maybe have another compartment inside that fully velcroes or zips closed
4:53
That'd be really nice. That'd be the one thing I would actually like to see at it
4:58
But otherwise, this is definitely worth checking out. And given the exorbitant price of a lot of messenger bags, this one is very pleasantly priced at an affordable point
5:07
But before we get to the price, let me ask you if you, subscribe to my channel really appreciate when you do that and as is obvious
5:14
I'm just really straight I'm really honest I'm just going to give it to you as it
5:19
is and you know the good and the bad so go ahead click that subscribe button
5:25
really appreciate it great now this is the mobile edge eco laptop messenger
5:31
comes in blue green charcoal this color or black now maybe this is black I don't
5:38
know if this is charcoal this is a very dark charcoal. Either way, it's actually a really nice bag. There's a lot going for it. So you should
5:46
definitely check it out, 4999 at mobileedge.com. That's all I got. I need to put everything back in my
5:53
bag now, because I'm using this. So I'll catch you in my next video
