Wireless earbuds have become quite the rage since Apple released its $159 AirPods, but do you really need to spend that much to enjoy wireless earbuds? Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ explores that very question by reviewing the HERO wireless bluetooth earbuds from WinnerGear. The results affirm that not all headphones, not all earbuds are designed the same, from comfort to charging to sound quality. From sound stage to imaging, clarity to richness, there's a certain amount you have to give up if you're going to use earbuds of any sort (with a few exceptions!). 0:10
out Dave Taylor here again and this time
0:13
I'm looking at wireless bluetooth
0:15
earbuds that's this guy right actually
0:17
there's two of them so it's these guys
0:19
but here's the thing there's no thing
0:22
sitting around your neck there's no
0:24
little box there's nothing else it's
0:26
literally just these devices and they're
0:28
really easy to work with you just put it
0:31
in your ear and spin it until the hook
0:34
actually connects to your ear and
0:37
they're both in and now to turn it on I
0:40
push once and then you hear on and on
0:44
and then they find each other and they
0:46
say paired and then it says connected
0:49
because now I'm actually on Bluetooth
0:52
with whatever device I want in this case
0:54
it happens to be an Apple iPhone but it
0:56
could be any device that pushes out
0:57
bluetooth and a tap of the
1:02
finger and if you could hear what I'm
1:04
hearing it's pretty nice it's pretty
1:07
loud so it's pretty darn impressive
1:10
actually these are the hero wireless
1:13
earbuds from winter gear and this is
1:17
quite the hot little market because of
1:19
course Apple has pushed into it and and
1:21
sort of defined it as being a big deal
1:24
with their airpods and these are
1:26
definitely a lot less expensive than
1:28
those but in terms of sound quality and
1:31
stuff well you know they're not quite
1:33
the same thing then again these were
1:35
great with Android devices and apple
1:37
kind of likes to have its stuff work
1:39
with Apple devices so enough about the
1:41
airpods let's talk about these hero
1:44
wireless earbuds so they have 3 hours of
1:47
play time and you're be like what that's
1:49
not very much but hold on because it
1:51
comes with a charging base you can see
1:54
you bring this with and when you put the
1:57
earbuds in it to recharge and it's easy
2:00
as doing this and doing this and closing
2:04
it and now they're actually recharging
2:07
and they can recharge four times off of
2:10
the little extra battery that's in this
2:12
so if you're doing your math 3 * 4 that
2:15
gives you a full 12 hours of listening
2:18
with little gaps for you to charge it as
2:20
you go but honestly my experience is
2:23
works pretty darn well uh the earbuds
2:26
feature let's pull them back out so you
2:28
can see them the earbuds feature CVC 6.0
2:32
noise cancellation which is pretty handy
2:35
and they also have aptx dyamic audio in
2:39
them so apx is not supported on your iOS
2:42
device but on a lot of android devices
2:44
it is and that gives you more dynamic
2:47
range so makes the music sound better
2:49
they have a little 8 mm Dynamic driver
2:53
and what else let's see they're sweat
2:54
proof which is important so you can put
2:56
them in and go for a run or a bicycle
2:58
ride and no one will will even know you
3:00
have them it's not like wires hanging
3:02
down there's no external indication that
3:04
it's here not only that but this is
3:07
crazy they have a built-in microphone so
3:09
you can actually use them for phone
3:10
calls now my experience is that the
3:12
person on the other end says as is often
3:15
with these devices well you're a little
3:17
soft can you speak up a bit but
3:19
otherwise it works pretty sweet and this
3:21
is particularly great if you're on a
3:23
conference call or on like a a webinar
3:26
or something like that where you just
3:27
got to sit and listen for the vast
3:29
majority of it this makes that very
3:31
convenient now the on ear controls
3:34
themselves give you play and pause you
3:36
can tap to answer an incoming call and
3:39
you can tap to skip a song um I find
3:42
that a little clumsy because I'm just
3:44
constantly doing this I kind of prefer
3:46
having something down here or frankly
3:49
I'll just have my phone sitting like
3:50
this and I'll tap next song so the works
3:54
but it's not something I found super
3:56
important um comes with two sizes of ear
3:59
ear hooks and three sizes of ear tips
4:02
and as always getting the right size ear
4:04
tip makes a significant difference in
4:06
the sound but while we're here let's
4:09
talk about the sound cuz the reality is
4:11
is they're little teeny tiny earbuds and
4:13
they don't have a very great sound it's
4:16
good but there's no full lushness to it
4:20
so you know there's not a lot of Base
4:22
going on even when you put in Big Ear
4:24
tips and let them fill up your ear canal
4:26
there's just not a lot there it's much
4:28
more at the high-end which is pretty
4:30
typical for these sort of devices so I
4:33
wouldn't get these thinking you're going
4:34
to have this mindblowing you know audio
4:37
file amazing experience it's not really
4:40
what they're for but they actually are
4:43
certainly listenable if you are willing
4:45
to maybe mess with what kind of music
4:47
you have and change the EQ on your
4:49
Bluetooth device um they work really
4:53
well for phone calls because it's such a
4:55
narrower range that they're trying to
4:56
reproduce so I like like them and I
5:00
really like the fact that it comes with
5:02
this little charging unit because
5:04
otherwise 3 hours on a charge would be
5:06
pretty tedious um it is important to
5:09
notice that there are little charging
5:12
things here and so you do have to line
5:14
that up when you want to charge it you
5:16
want to make sure that you get it in
5:18
exactly the right position or frankly it
5:20
won't charge and you will sit there and
5:22
you will wonder why you've had it in
5:23
there for so long and nothing's
5:26
happening so other than that two more
5:29
things number one go ahead and click
5:31
that subscribe button so we can continue
5:33
to be in touch thank you very much and
5:35
number two the price dun dun so how much
5:39
would you pay for these wireless
5:43
bluetooth earbuds from winter gear the
5:47
answer is 99 bucks and that includes the
5:49
charging unit the ear tips the ear hooks
5:53
the unit itself all in this beautiful
5:56
case so $99 from Amazon amazon.com this
6:00
is the hero Wireless earbud from
6:03
