Sure you can stick with your tiny chicklet keyboard that's built into your laptop, but don't you secretly miss a full size keyboard and mouse? Cherry offers just such an option with the DC 2000 wired full-size keyboard and 3-button mouse.
Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ checks out the Cherry DC 2000 keyboard and mouse, plugging them into a Dell laptop. You can, of course, also use it with a traditional desktop PC or Mac system too. But oh, what an improvement for your laptop keyboard...

a wired keyboard and mouse for under 20
0:02
bucks what are they worth it let's find
0:04
out Dave Taylor here and I work at home
0:14
even people who have office jobs find
0:16
that they work at home a lot too and
0:18
we've all become really used to these
0:20
little dinky keyboards on our laptops
0:22
now you can struggle through and use it
0:25
and you'll probably get used to it after
0:26
a while but seriously a full-size
0:29
keyboard is a certain kind of luxury it
0:32
just gives you better performance it
0:34
makes your hands feel better it's just a
0:36
more pleasant experience enter this this
0:39
turn it the right way is the chair EDC
0:42
mm business desktop keyboard and three
0:47
button mouse now these are really nice
0:50
cherry has been making these sort of
0:52
keyboard setups for a really long time
0:54
they have a quite a variety of different
0:56
options the DC mm features six foot
1:01
cables so you got plenty of space if you
1:04
do have a desktop and you want to plug
1:05
it in underneath or something that will
1:07
work totally fine these are very much
1:09
designed for that but you can also use
1:11
them for laptops we'll come back to that
1:13
now they tell you what's an lpk keyboard
1:16
but I'm pretty sure lpk is laser
1:18
projected this is not laser projected
1:20
this is a physical device nothing
1:23
virtual reality about it in fact it's a
1:26
dome switch keyboard and every key has
1:29
nice play on it it pushes down a
1:31
meaningful distance it comes back up
1:34
it's super quiet so listen very quiet
1:39
keyboard and the feel of it is really
1:41
terrific
1:42
now cherry says it has a service life of
1:45
10 million operations so I don't care
1:48
what you're doing online this is going
1:50
to cover your usage it's going to last
1:51
longer than your computer is and as you
1:54
can see in these close-ups the main key
1:57
section has all your function keys and
1:59
everything that you want and then on the
2:01
side they have the sort of functional
2:03
clusters for insert and home and page up
2:07
and page down and the four cursor keys
2:09
and the
2:11
Marit keypad and what's really cool is
2:13
they have these four hotkeys that give
2:15
you one button access to calculator
2:17
email web browser and boom you can go to
2:20
sleep so super easy now
2:23
the mouse is an optical mouse and it's
2:25
running at 1200 dpi and what that means
2:28
is it has a very nice resolution it's
2:30
very fine so if you're doing detail work
2:32
in your graphics editor or something
2:34
very small Mouse motions will translate
2:37
into very small motions on the screen
2:38
kind of what you want now it does use an
2:41
optical system so it really wants a more
2:44
textured environment if you have a
2:46
perfectly smooth surface or worse just a
2:48
piece of glass you'll want to put down a
2:50
mousepad or at least a piece of paper or
2:52
something but that's true of all mice
2:54
now again there's a certain pleasure
2:56
about going back to a mouse instead of
2:58
the ubiquitous trackpads
3:00
so you know having both gives you a nice
3:02
option with a laptop with a desktop
3:04
obviously this becomes your main user
3:06
interface and your main input mechanism
3:08
so that's all good now the scroll wheel
3:12
let's talk about the mouse for a second
3:14
here's again our close-up you're seeing
3:16
hmm there's two buttons why did you say
3:17
three buttons so in fact there's right
3:20
and left and then the scroll wheel is
3:24
also a button so that's pretty important
3:27
to know and again here's what's really
3:29
great is you plug these into a PC
3:31
especially and boom it knows exactly
3:33
what to do with all of this this is
3:35
super easy there's no complicated
3:36
configuration anything like that now the
3:40
only thing I will say is that when you
3:42
read the description of this online
3:43
cherry says that you only need one USB
3:46
plug and I don't really get that because
3:49
when I look at this keyboard I don't see
3:51
a USB in I mean in fact the whole thing
3:54
is insanely slim right there's no space
3:57
for a port so you need two plugs one for
3:59
your mouse one for your keyboard now not
4:02
all laptops have those so you could also
4:04
use a simple USB splitter it'll work
4:06
fine with that because however fast
4:08
you're typing you're not actually
4:09
sending a huge amount of data now let's
4:12
see the other thing I want to point out
4:14
is that it has little the keyboard has
4:16
little feet so you can flip them down
4:18
and now it's even flatter on the surface
4:23
I don't like that I like to have it
4:24
tilted up a little bit so I really like
4:26
having the feet there and I tend to
4:28
leave them stuck on the up position and
4:32
finally if I plug it into my computer
4:35
then I am now let's see on this side and
4:42
I'm not ready to go I mean how easy is
4:45
that and how nice to have a full-size
4:47
keyboard that lets me actually use it as
4:50
normal people use normal computer
4:53
keyboards although I guess sales trends
4:55
are such that laptop and desktops the
4:59
laptops are winning that race but still
5:02
there's something about these larger
5:03
keyboards you don't have to take it with
5:05
you it doesn't have to go into your
5:06
luggage but if you're sitting at your
5:08
home office or something this is a real
5:10
luxury finally it can be localized the
5:14
cherry offers that in for Belgium
5:16
Germany Spain France the UK the pan
5:20
Nordic countries and this is the US Plus
5:23
euro symbol now after brexit who knows
5:26
maybe we'll have to add the pound
5:28
sterling symbol too that's down the road
5:30
so all this left to talk about is the
5:32
price but before we get to the price can
5:34
I ask if you can go ahead and subscribe
5:36
to my channel really appreciate that and
5:39
you use an external keyboard with your
5:41
laptop
5:41
tell me about it I'd really like to hear
5:43
what you're using and how it's working
5:44
out for you okay finally so here's the
5:48
best part of all of this right so the
5:50
chair EDC mm desktop keyboard and three
5:54
button mouse you can find it at a
5:56
variety of different places my
5:58
recommendation is to check out delcom
6:00
where it's $15.99
6:03
so $15.99 at delcom with free shipping
6:06
is hard to be so this is the chair EDC
6:09
mm I need to get back to working on my
6:12
great novel or my email one of the two
6:15
which means I'll catch you in my
