The new mobile G3 Android phone. Let's open the box and see what's inside
0:12
Dave Taylor here and I'm holding up the new mobile G3 Android smartphone. Now this is an
0:19
entry-level cost smartphone so do not expect this to be compared to say the Samsung Galaxy
0:25
S9. So this is a much lower priced entry. This is actually $199. So what can you get for $199
0:34
Android phone? Well let's open the box and find out. And to do an unboxing we need a tool. So
0:41
we're going to go ahead and just jump right in. Let's see, looks like we want to just cut the
0:46
plastic at the very bottom and then take it off. And of course I can only do this once so if this
0:53
all falls onto the floor then we're doomed and there's nothing I can do about it. So speaking
0:58
of on the floor we'll do that. Now let's see how this all works. So the phone comes out this way
1:04
It is awfully snug. Possibly they need like I don't know half a millimeter extra space there
1:10
to make that easier to open but maybe not. And then this same thing right. So this is modern
1:16
packaging. The tolerances are so tight that it ends up being really hard to open things. Let's
1:21
see if I can use my handy opening tool to help out. And you would not think it would be this hard
1:31
to open it up and see what treasures are inside. All right we got this. It is so tight that there's
1:38
actually there's vacuum and suction going on here. So not so easy. Let's turn it this way so you can
1:45
see the front. All right and now here we have in the box the most important thing is the actual
1:51
phone itself. Let's take it out of the plastic and there you go. And then on the back you can see the
1:57
color. This is the Sapphire G3. Now let me tell you really quick a couple of things about it. So
2:04
it's a 5.7 inch HD screen running at 1440 by 720. So it's not a full 1080p screen but depending on
2:14
what you're doing this can be plenty enough. It's powered by a Mediatek Helio P25 octa core
2:22
CPU with 4 gig of ROM and 64 gig of storage and micro SD support. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo
2:31
It has dual sim support which is great if you have a business line and a personal line
2:36
Or if you travel and you want to have your phone line everywhere and you want to be able to have
2:40
access to a local number as you're overseas. Lots of camera stuff going on as always. A 13 megapixel
2:47
selfie camera and then the back is a dual camera which actually has 13 megapixels as its regular
2:54
camera and a 5 megapixel depth sensing camera. And finally one of the things I find interesting
3:00
about this is it supports both fingerprint, that's the bottom piece here, and facial recognition. So
3:06
whichever one you're more comfortable with or I guess you could just do a pin if you don't like
3:10
any of that biometric stuff. And that's pretty nice. Now when we do a quick tour there are, let's
3:16
see, there's three buttons on one on the right hand side. There's nothing on the top other than for
3:22
the sim and on the bottom there is a USB-C charging plug and speakers. There is no headphone jack so
3:30
if that's a big deal to you then this is a very modern phone that doesn't have one which might
3:34
be an issue. The phone also features a 3,000 milliamp hour battery which is supposed to give
3:41
you somewhere between 10 and 12 hours of active use. I'm just taking things off you can see it's
3:47
a beautiful color. It's really nice looking. So let's actually just turn on the screen and then
3:52
I'll get back to the box right. So come on phone wake up. One assumes that it was not shipped without
4:00
any power. Actually one of the things I really like about modern devices is that they actually
4:07
are shipped if not fully charged then pretty close to fully charged. So you can pull it out of the
4:12
box and just start having fun. Let's see. So it's slowly building the Android login. It's going to
4:19
actually ask me to set up and configure things. I'm not going to do that right now. This is an
4:23
unboxing right. Box. Taking things out of it. Let's see. Now thank you for choosing New Mobile
4:29
New Mobile stickers suitable for your car or dorm room or I don't know water bottle
4:36
Getting started with your G3. It's a lot of paperwork. And let's see. Mint Mobile Cleverness
4:42
Kit. Wow that's kind of interesting. Not sure what that is. And a Mint Mobile SIM card. I guess
4:49
you can just start right out with that. Let's see what else is included. Oh this is nice. It
4:53
comes with a small and very slim case. So let's see. This is just your standard TPU soft rubber
5:02
case. But I will immediately put my phone in it because why would I not want it to be protected
5:07
Right. So there we go. Easy enough. There is no bezel at all so it doesn't come up at all. So
5:13
it's of limited value as a protective case versus what might else be out there. But it is obviously
5:19
designed very much for this phone. And as you can see we are now at the Android welcome screen. So
5:24
that's good. Back to the box. Now let's see in here we have this is going to be a shock. An
5:30
absolute shock to you. A wall charger. And that has regular USB 3.0 on one end. And then that
5:38
means we're going to have a cable right here. And that's going to have let's see USB. That's
5:45
interesting. So it's kind of an unusual little plug here. I don't know how this is going to work
5:50
There must be an adapter. I don't. Oh actually I see. So this is actually the AUX adapter. So
5:57
because there's no like 3.5 millimeter audio cable they have this instead. Which is just a very
6:03
unusual design. But you plug it into the bottom and if you really really really want to plug in
6:09
some headphones or a speaker now you have that capability. So that's cool. Which means that in
6:14
this other box you can see there's two compartments that had the audio adapter and the power charger
6:21
And then this I am sure will be yep what includes the other cables. Let's see what's in here. And
6:29
sure enough this has. Let's just unwind this. USB-C on one end and USB 3.0 on the other. So
6:38
this is what you would plug into here. And this is then what you would plug into the phone when
6:43
you're ready to charge it. But fortunately it comes at least somewhat charged. Let's see if
6:48
we can figure out how charged it is. It's at 59 percent. So plenty enough to be able to set it up
6:54
configure it, get it on your Wi-Fi network, do whatever updates need to be done and start using
6:59
it. So that's very nice. Here's the cable. Not super long but long enough. I mean this is pretty
7:04
standard stuff. It does not support wireless charging as far as I am aware. The company does
7:10
not say anything about that and I don't think it just sort of comes along for free. So let's see
7:15
Not much else I could tell you. That's the whole box. That's everything in the box. So it comes
7:20
with a wall charger and the USB charging cable and the audio adapter cable because it doesn't
7:26
have an actual audio jack. And there's this Mint Mobile stuff going on here and lots of paperwork
7:33
to get you started. Most importantly it comes with this new mobile G3 unlocked 5.7 inch screen
7:41
Android phone running Android 8.0 Oreo. And so far my initial impressions are very favorable
7:49
This is the Sapphire. It's also available in Ruby and Tiger's Eye and Purple Garnet. And if you want
7:56
to learn more about the phone, oh but hang on before we get there, let me ask if you can subscribe
8:01
to my channel. I don't do a lot of unboxings but I do a whole lot of product reviews and I will
8:06
circle back in a couple of weeks after I've had a chance to really use this and really push it
8:10
through its paces and I will review the new mobile G3. So definitely you want to check back for that
8:16
Generally speaking I really appreciate when you subscribe to my channel so appreciate that button
8:21
too. Now we are looking at the new mobile G3 unlocked Android phone and if you want to learn
8:28
more about it or you want to pick one up for yourself they are $199 at Amazon.com which is a
8:33
pretty screaming deal for an unlocked Android phone with a nice bright screen and a very stylish
8:40
look. Why would you want something like this? Because if you lose it it's not a $900 or $1000
8:47
super fancy top-end phone. It's a phone that if the screen cracks or something it's not a crisis
8:52
it's not the end of the world. These are great for teens, these are great for seniors, these are
8:56
great for people that just aren't very mobile centric. There are all sorts of beautiful super
9:01
expensive phones out there but it doesn't mean that we all need them. So that's all I got. We have
9:07
completed our unboxing task. As you saw the box was actually pretty tight so it was a little bit
9:13
tricky but whenever you have tools you can solve problems. So with that I will catch you in my next video

Bye
