Is this the toughest phone on the market
0:01
Let's check it out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm looking at this
0:12
This is the Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2, and this is a pretty cool Android phone
0:18
Now, I already did an unboxing, so I encourage you to go check that out. In the box is the phone, a charging cable, a wall plug, that's it
0:27
Nothing else. So no earbuds. no wall mount, I don't know, whatever else you could get with a cell phone. It doesn't come
0:33
with it. It's just the basics. But that's okay because it's at a really nice price point. And this
0:39
is one tough, rugged phone. In fact, this phone is really designed for people that are out there
0:45
on the front lines, as it were. It is mill standard 810G and it's an impact-resistant display. It has
0:54
impact absorbing corners on it, so there's a lot of abuse this thing can take and still come through
1:01
unscathed, which is nice. Even the back camera has a special protective shield on it, so make sure that
1:07
you're going to have it work well. Now, I'm going to review it, and I have lots of photos and
1:11
videos to share with you, so I think you'll be impressed. But let's start by talking about the basics
1:17
It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.2 gigahertz octacore with 64 gig of ROM and 4 gig of RAM
1:26
It has a 4G LTE, GSM, UMTS support, so it's not a 5G phone, but seriously, very few are yet
1:35
And, of course, the 5G phones are going to start at the top end anyway, so if you don't want to spend $1,100 on a phone, then maybe 5G is a couple months away
1:44
Now, the screen is a 5-inch Dragon Trail Pro screen with impact-resistant display
1:51
It's a fairly low resolution, 1920 by 1080. It's the same as your HD television
1:58
But think about this. Your TV is probably 50 inches right This is 5 inches So the density of pixels is much higher It 443 pixels per inch which means that it might seem like that a pretty low display but it looks really nice
2:15
It's a really clean display. Now, again, like I said, Mill Standard 810G, that's an impact protection
2:22
It is actually waterproof. Now, AT&T sent me this phone to test, and I'm like, cool. I want to
2:30
test if it's waterproof and they're like, well, and I'm like, you know what, I'm going to do it
2:36
anyway. So we're going to test if it's waterproof. And here's what's cool, right? So I'm going to just
2:40
drop it in this water and make a bit of a mess. Okay. But while it's underwater, you can actually
2:46
still use the camera or the video. So it is still working and I will take it out of the water now and
2:52
I'll put it on my convenient towel. No adverse impact. There are a lot of phones that if it would
2:59
have just dropped in a bowl of water. I would have had actually a small anxiety attack and been very
3:04
concerned. But this one, absolutely no issue. It is totally back and functional. There's nothing
3:10
to worry about. That is what you want in a phone. You want a phone that can survive your life
3:17
Nice job, Kyocera. So it also has four microphones because it has what they call, what is this
3:24
This is a push-to-talk system. So it's like a walkie-talkie. And for emergency responders, that's a very handy way to be able to communicate
3:33
So again, imagine that it has like a sort of built-in walkie-talkie-ish feature
3:38
And why does it have four microphones? So we can cancel out ambient noise so people can hear you if you're in a noisy environment
3:45
So if you're a first responder and you're at a fire, for example, or there's sirens around
3:52
people will still be able to hear you. Really, really beneficial. Now, let's talk about the camera
3:57
And then I'll get into some demos, right? So it's a 13 megapixel rear camera with a 4K rear camera
4:03
So there's two different lenses there. And of course there the little flash You can see all that in the close There the super wide 135 degree protected with a sapphire shield underwater functional
4:18
Again, I just dropped it in the water. I could have taken a video while I did that, but really, it would be much more fun to be at a pool
4:24
but I'm not at a pool. So we're going to have to work with some other shots
4:28
So let me give you some examples. We're going to start with a selfie, right
4:33
Look at the detail. It's really pretty crisp. And now we're going to spin the camera around and I'm going to show you this is first as wide angle as possible on this shot
4:43
And now I'm going to go to as zoomed in as possible on the very same shot taken from the very same place
4:50
And then finally, let's just look at some video. And this was taken with a tripod
4:56
But you'll notice partway through this video I zoom in so you can really see it captures some nice detail
5:02
It's not super precise. It's not super HD. They say it's 4K
5:08
I'm not thinking that I'm seeing that, but still, very nice video
5:12
So in terms of the battery, it's a 3240 millanph hour battery, which is pretty good
5:17
That gives you 21 hours of talk time. It also does fast charging, and it does wireless charging
5:23
So if I get the water off of this, I have this otterbox wireless charging device
5:29
I love these things, right? So turn it on, put the phone on it, and unusually
5:34
Most phones the screen would light up when it's charging on this. There's just a tiny red light that turns on
5:40
If the screen's already on I will see that it says it is charging
5:45
So wireless charging if you need to actually charge it wired There is a cover on the bottom you open it up and you have USBC. That's why it has a USBC cable
5:57
And you know otherwise there is space on this side for a
6:04
micro sd card so you can expand your memory and volume is on the same side the push to talk and power is on the other side and on the top another covered port is your 3 millimeter AUX jack for headphones microphones whatever it is you want to use
6:22
So that's pretty much what I got. I am very impressed with this phone
6:27
I think that, you know, for the style and for its functional area
6:33
it's really well done. I like tough phones. I like phones that can take abuse
6:38
that can survive the daily rigors of life. People love that. this phone too. And I think a lot of the reason they like it is because if you drop it or something
6:47
you're not going to be, oh no, what happened? What did I just break? It's like, it can handle it
6:52
It's tough. It can handle the actual situations you find yourself in. So, all really good
6:58
Only thing left to talk about is the price. But before we get to the price, I do want to ask if you
7:03
can subscribe to my channel. Really appreciate when you do that. Cool. Now, I did get the phone
7:08
as a loaner from AT&T Wireless. Thank you very much AT&T. Thank you for letting me put it in the water
7:14
It does still work. I'm pretty sure there is no adverse impact as advertised
7:20
So this is the Kiosera DuraForce Pro 2, and it's 44999 at ATT.com
7:28
Or if you want to make payments, it goes down to a ridiculously low $15 a month for 30 months of payments
7:36
And, you know, again, if you're looking for an. Android phone that can take what your life is dishing out and it can handle rough situations falling
7:46
into the lake, whatever it is, then this is really one worth checking out. I'm impressed. So with that
7:52
I'm going to go back to take some more selfies. I know, go figure, right? And that means I'll catch you
