An incredibly thin Mag widget and a 20 watt wall charger
0:03
Let's check them out. Dave Taylor here and I'm looking at charging again
0:15
With all our devices, it's an endless adventure of trying to keep everything charged and every battery from running out
0:21
Now, the iPhone 12 series has an interesting new technology called MagSafe
0:26
There are magnets in the back of the iPhone 12 line devices that help you actually correctly align and quickly charge your device
0:37
Now, you're thinking, wasn't MagSafe something to do with the old MacBooks so that if you pulled the power plug, you wouldn't have the computer spill onto the ground
0:45
And the answer is, you're right. This is a different MagSafe. So apparently Apple can reuse its trademarks
0:51
All good. Now, what makes this interesting is that it is actually right
0:56
really pretty slick. So here's what I'm looking at. I'm looking at the Cindox MagSafe charger and
1:02
check out how thin that is, right? This is really nice and it has the right magnets so that it
1:08
connects with the iPhone 12. But it does not have its own power. It needs to be plugged into the
1:14
wall with a wall charger. So Cindox also sent me their 20 watt wall charger. This is really sweet
1:21
This tiny little guy puts out 20 watch which means that it
1:26
it can give you power delivery or quick charge 3. So PD3 and QC3, which means it can charge just
1:34
about anything. As you can see in the closeup, it also has USB 3 and USBC. So it's very, very
1:42
flexible. It's literally a 1.1 inch cube. Really like this thing. It's really slick. Now, it works
1:49
with 100 to 240 volts 50 or 60 hertz and it has protection for overheating over voltage over current overcharging and anti Now I haven tried it while you know there was a lightning storm outside
2:03
but that's a lot of protection for a little tiny thing that's not much bigger than a big casino dye, right
2:10
Now, it's really remarkably inexpensive, but we'll get to the price at the end
2:14
So what I did with this is I plugged in this. This, like I said, is the Syndocs MagSafe charger
2:23
and this is 0.16 inches thin and 2.25 inches in diameter. It is a 15 watt fast charger and it has 32 magnets to make sure that when you place it on your phone
2:38
it literally can hold the phone up. That's how strong those magnets are
2:43
That's pretty cool. This also supports both PD power delivery and QC quick charge standards
2:50
And what's interesting is you can see there's a pretty heavy. USBC plug on the other end. But the reason for that is because there's an LED light that gives you a lot of information. It can recognize and alert you if it has
3:05
incorrect objects like foreign bodies they call it. So if you drop a bunch of coins on your charger, it won't try to charge those coins. That's pretty important
3:15
But it also can show you if it's charging when it's fully charged. It will actually stop continuing to charge your device, which is important. So
3:23
Enough talk, let's plug this in. So I'm going to plug in the Syndoc's MagSafe charger
3:30
Look at that. I'm so fantastically thin. To the wall charger. And then I'm going to plug that into my convenient power cord right here
3:39
And you can see here, it's already giving me those bright lights just to show me that
3:44
hey, something's going on. Now, let's put my phone on. And now I have blue and it's charging
3:50
I can see here that the little green battery icon is now half full That a good thing So I thought hmm all right well how fast does this actually charge right And there always a cost to wireless charging It just
4:05
can't transmit as much energy as having it being plugged in. But how much does it cost? And here's the
4:11
answer, is that I can charge my iPhone 44% in an hour. So that's not bad. So, you know
4:19
it's going to take you somewhere between two, two and a half hours to go from zero to fully charged
4:25
But the iPhone, like so many devices, doesn't have an even and consistent power charging system
4:32
So the amount of time it takes to go from 20% to 50% is shorter than the amount of time it takes to go from 90% to 100
4:41
because it's trying to manage the battery life. Now, people get upset about that, but there's actually a positive
4:48
This is something Apple's trying to do to help us out. So here we have our charger
4:53
It's so incredibly thin that honestly it looks like I'm not doing anything
4:58
It doesn't even look like it's plugged in or there's a charger underneath it. So many of these wireless chi chargers are like a half an inch or an inch
5:06
They're just substantial. So having something this slim is pretty nice. But then I thought, hmm, it's just a wireless Chi charger
5:14
So what if I use something that isn't mag safe? I thought, let's grab my handy Google Pixel 5
5:21
And that also has wireless charging, and it's charging right there. So it just says charging wirelessly
5:29
How quickly does that charge? That's a little faster than the iPhone
5:33
The pixel can charge 48% in an hour using the wireless charging system
5:39
So all in all, it's a very simple, elegant design. I like the LED that gives you that feedback
5:46
If I take this off, you'll see that color will turn off
5:50
So it giving you that feedback It does have a nice long wire so you can just tuck this in behind your wall and have this on your bedside table or right by your office monitor whatever it is
6:02
And there's lots to like here. I mean, if you're going to have MagSafe, you might as well have a device that can charge with it, right
6:09
So let's talk about the price. That's really the only thing left. But before we get to the price, give me some feedback
6:15
Give me a thumbs up if you appreciate what I've done and the testing I've done here. Leave a comment. Tell me what you
6:20
what kind of Chi charger you're using. And of course, if you're so inspired or inclined
6:25
subscribe to my channel. It's just a click away. Thank you. All right
6:30
Now, let's talk about prices. Let's start with this. This is the Sindox MagSafe charger
6:37
and it's 2499 minus 10% right now. So it's 2249 at Amazon.com
6:46
and you'll probably want to pair that with a 20 watt charger, and this 20-watt wall charger, and I really like this, with both USB-3 and USB-C, is 1899 minus 10%
7:01
So this is $17.9, which means this setup, all ready to go for your iPhone 12 or any other wireless
7:09
device you have, is under $40, and this is pretty state-of-the-art stuff
7:14
So definitely worth checking out. If nothing else, just go get one of these for
7:19
For $17, this is a no-brainer to have in your computer bag with two. Count them. Two different plugs. So handy. That's all I got. I'm going to go back to charging my phone, which means I'll catch you in my next video
