When tech expert Dave Taylor gets a new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite "Signature Edition" and Water-Safe Fabric Case, he can't help but turn on the camera to share what's in the box. This is the 11th gen Paperwhite Kindle device, and the "signature" edition adds lots of storage - 32GB - along with wireless Qi charging and IPX8 waterproof too. And that case? So nice.

An Amazon Kindle Paperwhite signature edition
0:03
Let's see what's in the box. Dave Taylor here, and I have a brand new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition
0:18
So, this is the fancy version that's waterproof. In fact, let me give you the specs
0:23
32 gig of storage, a 6.8 inch display with 300 pixels per inch, glare-free
0:30
screen, wireless charging, and auto adjusting 17 LED front light, Bluetooth for headphones or
0:38
speakers, you can use it with audible, and it's IPX8 waterproof. You can drop this in the pool
0:45
pick it back out, and it's going to be totally fine. Not only that, but the case is also
0:50
waterproof, so that's pretty fun. But the question is, what's in the box? So, let's find out
0:56
Now, the box for the paper white is one where you only get to open it once, so I'm going to open it the once
1:03
So you pull this and now we'll see what is actually inside
1:08
So we have, that's the whole box and it is all recyclable paper which is well done on their part
1:16
So here's the actual Kindle itself and it comes in this plastic envelope for safety and protection
1:24
I bought this actually at my local Amazon four star store. It really kind of fun to have a physical store, but they set it up
1:33
So it should already be ready to rock and roll on my Kindle account, which is nice
1:38
So what else do we have? We'll come back to that in a second. So here's this
1:41
This is also highly recyclable paper, and there's a little box on the bottom
1:46
And let's see what's in that box. We have that feels like everything
1:53
so there's more recyclable cardboard. We'll put this aside. And in the box is a USBC to USBA charging cable. It's a nice length
2:08
It does not come with your wall charger, so you're going to need to have some solution for that
2:12
Or it does wireless charging Now apparently the wireless charging there a Chi wireless charging plate on the very back It not MagSafe but if you put it on a wireless charger it should charge Now Amazon also has a little charging stand which is pretty slick
2:32
but since I have so many wireless chargers, it didn't seem like I needed to acquire one of those
2:38
Oh, and meanwhile, it looks like I've touched it, so it actually has gone to the home screen
2:42
Now, we'll come back to that. Like I said, there's also a piece of paper, and the piece of paper tells you
2:48
the two different ways you can charge it. And battery safety, protection against water, confusing when it's waterproof
2:56
FCC compliance, recycle your device properly. And you'll notice this thing is just chugging along and doing all sorts of stuff
3:03
So I'm going to leave that for a second. And I'm going to tell you two more things about it, by the way
3:08
So the battery life, they say battery life up to 10 weeks
3:14
But that's if you read it 30 minutes a day. Now, I don't know about you, but that's actually not
3:18
far from how much I do read on my Kindle, because I read at bedtime and I get through books
3:23
about every week or two. So probably we're looking at 30 to 40 hours of reading per charge
3:31
assuming you don't top it up. So 30 to 40 hours, you're not going to sit there and read for
3:37
40 hours straight. But if you're really hardcore and you read for, say, four hours a day
3:43
that means about every two weeks you're going to have to be recharging it. I don't think that's a
3:47
really big deal, but some people say it doesn't have enough battery life. I don't know
3:52
they must just sit there and read and read and read. So now, the other thing I wanted to tell you
3:58
about it is that this version has no ads. So the way Amazon's done it is that that sort of load
4:04
screen, you can get a cheaper version of the different Kindle models if you're willing to have that
4:10
load screen actually have ads. Now, I don't think it's worth savings of 10 or 20 bucks to do that
4:17
So having no ads just seems like a no-brainer, if you will
4:22
And so that's part of the whole signature edition. The signature edition is about 50 bucks more than the regular Kindle paperwhite
4:29
This is the 11th generation of this device. But I'll get to the price in a minute
4:35
Let me just say that for that $50 upgrade, you get more storage, you get the wireless charging
4:42
you get the waterproof capabilities. So all of that pretty sweet Now let check out this case I also got the water safe fabric case and this one has a similar opening so we go ahead and just pull the back here and then let see this is actually a deep sea blue case and
5:06
that's very nice it's a fabric case and you can see it comes with a little cardboard insert and
5:13
instructions. I'm going to guess that's some sort of a warranty or something. And the reason
5:18
it's important to have that case and it just snaps in and we're good. And what's nice is with
5:24
the case is that when you close the case, it automatically turns off the kindle. And when you
5:30
open the case, the kindle then starts up again. But where this is important is that the paper
5:35
white by itself is somewhat infamous for having its power button on the bottom. So some people say
5:42
if you're just holding the device, you can accidentally push the power button
5:47
and other people scoff and say, hardly that doesn't happen. But especially if you have it in the case
5:53
then it's even less likely to happen. And notice I can easily hold this with one hand
5:58
and the case folds all the way back to make it super convenient and easy for me to work with
6:03
So, in fact, let's go ahead, and again, I'll show you, I'll close it
6:08
and there's a magnetic cover, so it will stay closed, even if I'm not holding the front part
6:14
And then I open it and it turns on again. And I can just go ahead and let's see
6:20
Let's choose English and next. And United States and next. So I'm just setting up, but now it's booting up
6:29
And the thing that's really sweet about this is this is the E-ink screen technology
6:34
and it has an auto-adjusting LED light, but it also has other illumination built into it
6:40
And these sort of screens are glorious in direct sunlight. So this is sort of the exact opposite technology of something like an Apple iPad
6:50
where in a really dark room, it's nice and bright, but if it's in direct sunlight, you can't see it
6:55
This is almost the opposite, where this is amazing in direct sunlight
7:00
It is super crisp and super readable. And then in the dark, you have that auto illumination and the different illumination you can set up
7:09
to have it work the way you want So lots to like here I really eager to get a couple of books and read through a couple of books on this new Kindle which means I should probably tell you the price
7:21
But before we get to the price, let me give you some dimensions. The Kindle itself is 6.9 inches by 4.9 inches
7:28
by 0.32 inches thick and it's 7 ounces. And by adding the case, I feel like I've added
7:35
just a couple more ounces. This is incredibly light. It is super easy to hold
7:39
in one hand and with 32 gig of storage I can put literally thousands of e-books on
7:46
this and that is just a glorious thing if you're taking any sort of trip or
7:50
anything then this is just really nice now what I see here is that the people at
7:57
the Amazon store said they set this up for me but they didn't so I'm gonna have
8:01
to set it up so I won't make you watch me go through the setup process it's
8:05
super easy you just log in basically really straightforward but But that does mean we should get to the price
8:12
But before we get to the price, I'm going to ask if you could subscribe to my channel
8:17
I get a hold of tons of gear. I'm really straightforward and candid and honest in my reviews
8:23
I do unboxings. Subscribe. Click or tap on that subscribe button and we're connected
8:29
Awesome. Now, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite signature edition with extra storage, waterproof, and wireless charging
8:38
is 18999 at Amazon.com and this swanky waterproof fabric cover, it comes in black or deep sea blue, which is what this is, or a really cool looking lavender haze, which you might be tempted to call pink, but they call lavender haze, is $2999 additional at Amazon.com
9:02
Between the two of these, this is probably one of the very best ebook readers on the market right now
9:08
And as I said, I already have books I'm in the middle of. I'm excited to try out the new paper white, which means I'm going to have to get to my books once I've got it all set up
9:18
which means I'll catch you in my next video
