What’s it like flying Turkish Airlines 777 Business Class?

And welcome to another video. I'm Paul Lucas and today I am at Istanbul's Ataturk airport

Taking Turkish Airlines today in a Boeing 777 all the way back to London in business class

I'm looking forward to it. I hope you are. Let's go check it out. At the time of my journey, Istanbul Ataturk airport was only a few weeks away from being closed to passenger traffic

It was definitely long overdue for renewal. The new Istanbul Grand Airport opened for all traffic on the 4th of April and you can see a video on my channel of when I travel through in the interim opening phase. I'll leave the link in the description text below this video

The business class lounge was located towards the end of the duty free area. Upon entering, you're greeted with the sight of a pool and billiards table. This was certainly a statement lounge from Turkish Airlines

There was also a handy locker area where you could store your cabin bags if you didn't want to lug them around the lounge

This lounge was full of gimmicks and amenities, from a driving range to a popcorn machine to a fully functioning cinema to an Istanbul-themed Grand Prix Scalelectrics racing track

There were also a couple of stands where you could play computer games to pass the time. Now, this lounge was absolutely full of food

but my one complaint is all of these food areas are spread in about six to eight different locations

There isn't a unified dining area where you could just sit and have breakfast

I really hope they do fix this for the new lounge which is opened in Istanbul Grand Airport

It's such a big lounge, it makes no sense not to have a unified dining area where you can have a meal

In any case, this lounge was absolutely massive. massive. Over two floors, it took me a good 10 to 15 minutes to walk around the lounge and simply

explore everything that it had to offer. Overall, I was impressed by the amenities on offer, but less

impressed by the impersonal size of the lounge, the lack of functioning Wi-Fi, and the fact there

were too few spaces to get some work done in peace and quiet. Nonetheless, I'm still very excited to

try the new lounge at Istanbul Grand Airport. I hope to pass through later this year

ground level in the bowels of the airport and that can only mean one thing we boarding by bus and by stairs and that a real novelty on the widebody Looking Looking forward to it The ground level bus gates at Ataturk airport served only as a reminder as to why this airport

was so overdue for renewal or replacement. Personally as an enthusiast I quite like boarding

large aircraft by bus and stairs because you can get up close to the aircraft that way

However for the vast majority of people this is a complete chore. Bus gates are also a logistical

nightmare with getting enough buses for 300 plus passengers to board a wide body jet like

the 777. 28 business class seats lie to the left towards the nose. However, my preference on any aircraft

which has more than one business class cabin is to head for the second one. This is generally

smaller, quieter and has fewer passengers in. My instincts proved right this time as

there were only six passengers in this whole cabin of 21 seats when I flew

Turkish Airlines seats are very pleasant on the eye. Despite them being in a 2-3-2 configuration

the finishes throughout the cabin are very pleasant indeed. The main downsides to this

arrangement are a middle seat in business class which is never a good thing and secondly

All of the window seats don't have direct aisle access. You'll have to step over a neighbour to get out

Overall, I was impressed with the cabin and its ambience. I'll take a detailed look at the seat after take-off

One of the things that sets Turkish apart from its competitors is warm and personable service

A menu and nuts were handed out before departure, as well as an English-language newspaper

There was also the choice of a non-alcoholic pre-departure drink. As fellow YouTuber Dennis Bunnick would say

east and heading towards London. Here's a look at today's route. Istanbul and London are 1,563 miles apart

and it'll take four hours to go the distance at 39,000 feet

The seat controls on the business class seat are logically laid out

and I had no problem operating them There's also a handset for controlling the in-flight entertainment

and a handy reading lamp There are also universal and USB charge sockets down in the side of the seat

The main table is just behind this panel but there's also a handy surface including a couple of cup holders

on the console in between the seats. The table is pretty easy to deploy from the side panel and is fairly sturdy

You can also slide it backwards and forwards to help you get closer or further away from your meal

and to get round it in the event that you need to walk around the cabin. Turkish is also mindful of solo travellers like me

If you have a seat neighbour, then you may want to extend this privacy divider

to avoid any awkward eye contact. As you can see from my eye position here, this actually provides a surprising level of privacy

Also, the fact that this seat has four windows give to the overall impression of space in and around the seat area

As you would expect, this seat converts to lie flat into a bed. It was very comfortable and there's a decent mid-range lounging position, which I also found to be perfectly good

There are lots more reasons besides just personal service that Turkish is one of the best airlines in the sky

Their route map is truly impressive. They call at more destinations internationally than any other carrier in the world

at the time of recording turkish served 282 different destinations in 121 countries

the in-flight entertainment options on board were pretty good of course the moving map is

the first thing that i looked at and you could control it using the console instead of reaching

forward to use a touchscreen there's a pretty extensive choice of tv film and games so you

won't go bored even on a much longer flight there's also complimentary headphones so you can enjoy

the entertainment in peace. There's free Wi-Fi for business class and it works

well enough so that I can stream YouTube onto my phone. I also like the option to

set a do not disturb logo on your screen so the staff won't disturb you. If you

want to be working for the meal you can set it to this logo instead. As far as

meals go Turkish are known for their catering supplied by the renowned Do Co catering of Istanbul The menu and drink selection is extensive for such a short flight and the service is preceded by a hot towel

All of the food on board was very well presented and tasty

Turkish certainly make up for the fact their hard product, the seat, is behind most of the

competition by providing excellent on-board service, food and drink. Turkish are soon to introduce a new seat along with the delivery of their Boeing 787 Dreamliner

aircraft later this year. I hope to try one of the new seats out as soon as I can

My meal on this flight was accompanied with a Turkish red wine, which was pretty pleasant

There's also a cheese board and a very, very sweet dessert, a passion fruit mousse

This was absolutely exquisite, perfectly textured and delicately flavoured. My meal was finished with a Turkish coffee

I really liked the business class lavatories on board this flight. Not only were they very clean, they were also in very good condition with almost no sign of wear and tear

Good quality toiletries and a little greenery go a long way to making the lavatory experience a lot more pleasant

With just under an hour to go until we reach London, I indulge in a little superstition

a pre-landing drink, so I can watch the cityscape of London arrive as civilised as possible

After a brief hold, we're soon landing at Heathrow, in some slightly turbulent conditions

This trip cost me £366, that's around €420, one way, with the full itinerary being Zagreb, Istanbul, London

This is actually one of the cheapest ways to experience the full long-haul service

on one of Turkish's 777-300 aircraft. The main purpose of this trip was to, of course, put a review video out

but also to find out what Turkish were like on a long-haul flight. I have to say, I was reasonably impressed

and I would definitely choose them again if the price was right. And that is it for another flight
