Shift from R to D (and from D to N) without pressing shift lock button

In most cars (please note this: in MOST, not ALL), you may shift from Reverse to Neutral and then to Drive without even pressing the shift lock button. And the majority of car owners just don’t know that and they keep pressing the button and reducing its lifespan. Actually, there is nothing wrong with pressing that button, it will still live for decades. But it appears to be really much more convenient to shift without pressing this button. And this works pretty well in Honda cars. I’ve also tried it in several European and South-Korean vehicles - this worked there, too.
