Davido's MSG Debut: A Milestone for Afrobeats 🌍✨ | SWAY’S UNIVERSE

0:00
I remember when I saw him on the at the
0:01
BET Awards on that stage accepting those
0:05
awards at a time when they didn't put
0:07
artists from Africa on that main stage
0:09
right to accept those Awards I was at
0:11
the MTV Europe Music Awards the EMAs cuz
0:14
I was working the red carpet I can see
0:16
the man walking the carpet red caret the
0:20
all Africa Music Awards he's been doing
0:22
it all voted one of the mo 100 most
0:24
influential Africans by new African
0:26
magazine influential people in Africa by
0:28
Forbes Magazine
0:32
his work that he's done with our good
0:34
friend nasty C nasty C nasty from way
0:38
back in the day in South Africa and I'm
0:40
going to tell you why I feel like that's
0:42
significant can't wait to ask him about
0:43
it focalistic crazy also from South
0:46
Africa all these people have been on our
0:48
show yeah right my brother yes and just
0:51
watching his career flourish over the
0:53
years um it's been really amazing to
0:56
watch him I'm proud of him he's been a
0:58
bridge he's different he's he's unique
1:00
cuz he actually spent some time over
1:02
here in the states went to a
1:04
HBCU got that got that information got
1:08
that game took it back to the continent
1:10
spreaded it and to me I see him as a
1:12
bridge and I also see him as one of
1:14
Africa's big three please welcome him to
1:17
the show The One and Only Davido is
1:20
here come on man come on man what's up
1:24
what's up sway hello how you doing
1:26
brother I okay good hello everybody
1:28
pleasure pleasure um yeah man I just
1:30
landed long flight uh from Lagos uh-huh
1:34
uh you just landed this morning yeah
1:36
this morning New York wow W it's still
1:38
morning that's crazy yeah yeah stopped
1:40
in Atlanta my family's in Atlanta they I
1:42
came to New York but um happy to be here
1:45
you know what I'm saying excited I do
1:46
the gardien on Wednesday damn you hear
1:48
that wow wow Madison Square Garden do
1:51
the Garden on Wednesday um uh just been
1:53
a great year man um yeah album went
1:57
crazy um mhm it's about to be it's
2:00
Timeless Timeless for real man it's
2:02
about to be wild I'm just happy happy to
2:04
be here excited for what's to come you
2:06
know I'm finally happy that you know
2:08
last time I was here we was speaking
2:09
about everything that's happening now
2:11
with with the culture you know what I'm
2:13
saying and for to just you know happen
2:15
not quickly but naturally yes you know
2:18
what I'm saying it's amazing to see
2:19
everybody celebate yeah man it's yeah
2:21
man I I I get happy when I watch you cuz
2:24
I know you're a great guy and it's it's
2:26
interesting um to me like I I remember
2:29
going to Africa
2:30
to South Africa and at that time it was
2:35
very xenophobic yeah right and in South
2:39
Africa which sounds crazy to me but I
2:42
you know I didn't grow up in Africa
2:44
there were people in South Africa who
2:47
wanted to kick folks from Nigeria out of
2:49
the country yep and so when you were
2:51
doing music when you started doing when
2:53
you did music with nastyc and the focal
2:55
and focalistic and artist from that you
2:57
know making that bridge did it did you
3:01
see the impact of that to be honest I
3:03
think like I say music is like a
3:04
universal language so like I feel like
3:07
when you're making music for example
3:09
just for example because I wouldn't say
3:10
it was really a war but for example
3:13
let's say two countries are going at War
3:15
yeah if you put musicians from those two
3:16
countries in the studio they're not even
3:18
going to know they going to think about
3:19
the war's whatever is happening you know
3:21
what I'm saying so I've been going to
3:23
South Africa since I was 18 17 you know
3:25
what I'm saying it's always been love
3:27
you know what I'm saying with the music
3:28
with the people out there we've done so
3:30
many shows out there most of our Awards
3:32
shows were were were is actually in
3:34
South Africa you know what I'm saying at
3:36
the time because of you know they had
3:37
Advanced production bigger than anywhere
3:40
else in in in in Africa you know what
3:42
I'm saying so we we me being the veto
3:45
uhhuh maybe I didn't really you know
3:47
what I'm saying but um everything's
3:49
straight now you know I'm saying they
3:51
I'm proud of you know South Africans you
3:53
know what I'm saying with am my piano
3:55
you know what I'm saying we we Dodge in
3:56
that too so it's like everybody's coming
3:58
together like you can see the
3:59
collaborations with West Africans and
4:01
South Africans these days like you know
4:04
well who was doing that like you you've
4:05
been very U instrumental infusing Army
4:08
piano and afro beats who was doing that
4:11
already I mean like with me I I already
4:13
like like uptempo music you know what
4:15
I'm saying I like like Up Tempo kind of
4:17
house afro house music it kind of fits
4:19
my style you know what I'm saying so it
4:21
was easy for me to blend with them
4:23
anytime we got in you know what I'm
4:24
saying so down the line I was in South
4:28
Africa like it's like probably like like
4:29
5 years ago and I'm in the club and then
4:33
it's like music's playing but like
4:34
there's no vocals for like 5 minutes
4:36
yeah then I'm like what is this and
4:38
they're like trust me man in like two
4:40
years it's going to be the thing I'm
4:42
like all right and then and it was I
4:45
actually spoke to focalistic it was his
4:47
song uhhuh and then two years down the
4:49
line I'm in Nigeria I'm like yo there's
4:51
this sound that I can see cuz I I see I
4:53
see sounds coming from far away I can
4:56
tell like this guy's going to be Hur in
4:57
two years this guy's going to be blah
4:58
blah blah then I met focalistic and then
5:01
prior to that I've done like nasty C
5:04
mafikizolo uru but that was really like
5:07
um that wasn't at my piano that was
5:08
really like forgot the name but that's
5:10
like was really real South African
5:13
obviously n does hip-hop yeah um huru
5:16
MAF Gazo you know what I'm saying those
5:18
especially like um uh ma forisa DJ ma
5:22
forisa who was in the huru he kind of
5:25
him and C capside the smalls kind of
5:27
formed this My Piano Thing and just it's
5:31
just taking off I'm telling you it's
5:32
like 500 artists going crazy wow and
5:35
it's really like influenced our sound
5:37
you know what I'm saying I feel like us
5:39
Nigerians we're good we can adapt to
5:41
anything like even live we can live
5:43
anywhere like Nigerians everywhere in
5:45
the world everybody has a Nigerian
5:46
friend one way or the other you know
5:48
what I'm saying so we can always adapt
5:50
to the sounds so I feel like music has
5:52
unified us in Africa there might be
5:54
other things going on you know
5:56
government wise or you know what I'm
5:57
saying but musically I feel like that's
5:59
that suedes all of that stuff that's one
6:01
thing that saves saved us like big time
6:05
what was your favorite um Southern meal
6:08
when you was going to HBCU what was the
6:11
first Southern Cuisine that you got
6:14
[Laughter]
6:17
catfish uh fried
6:20
catfish uh mac and cheese
6:23
cornbread uh the cranberry thing that we
6:26
put the the the the cranberry
6:29
with the um with the potato the sweet
6:32
the sweet potato the candy yams the
6:34
candy yams d and a
6:37
nice uh orange juice or pineapple juice
6:41
some sugar but like you know like my my
6:44
like I have like my second side of my
6:46
family like from Atlanta uhuh like since
6:49
I was they really really Southern like
6:51
they barely know anything about Nigeria
6:52
so when I go over there it's like oh
6:55
American food yeah but me I like African
6:57
food better better
7:00
American food just get me too big like
7:02
fat huh
7:04
gy like if I just have one meal my
7:06
stomach out but like Nigerian food I
7:08
feel like African food even if you eat
7:10
you just process it better like it's
7:12
gone like everything is getting out it's
7:14
real that's real
7:15
man it's real full what you eating over
7:18
here a it just look real the soil is the
7:20
soil is different so like the way they
7:21
grow their weed and their bread and
7:23
different the way they grow their weed I
7:25
don't know about that oh wheat oh wheat
7:27
you said wheat my bad
7:31
I don't know about
7:33
that no rubers today uh uh what are you
7:36
most excited about right now man um
7:39
doing right now like right now in New
7:41
York obviously doing the show The Garden
7:44
but what does that mean like because I
7:45
know for years for um artists from other
7:48
countries it was important to make it
7:51
yeah and now we starting to see you
7:52
burner boy where's kid all these guys
7:54
coming over here and y'all packing out
7:56
these these venues what does that
7:58
legendary it's m al fought there bro
8:01
crazy like I've done Arenas around I did
8:04
like six or five earli or last year
8:07
uhhuh crazy sold out but like I just
8:09
feel like mbsg to even to get in the
8:10
building I they don't care if you can
8:12
sell 50,000 sometimes yeah I feel like
8:14
it's just a prestigious Arena you know
8:16
what I'm saying you know what I'm saying
8:18
I've been going to the Knicks games
8:19
going to just games I just have Auntie
8:21
that lived in New York when I was in
8:24
college I had to come cuz I was cool her
8:25
son so I had come to New York I stay in
8:28
Bronx and then take us to the games and
8:31
you know just just to do the garden even
8:33
if it's once man yeah man that's when is
8:36
your show Wednesday we're going yeah of
8:39
course you got us for tickets and
8:40
everything right of course Wednesday
8:43
night that's Duke right there the white
8:46
dude thanks for those VIP passes brother
8:48
hey man I've already enjoyed myself but
8:51
apart from that it's just like even like
8:53
for our fans back home like people our
8:55
fans here is cool and all even for the
8:57
fans here my bad but it's like even even
8:59
for them to be able to tell their friend
9:01
like yo I'm going to the garden they're
9:02
like what what you going for a Drake
9:03
concert they're like no I'm going for a
9:04
David O concert like you know what I'm
9:06
saying so it gives them confidence too
9:08
to be like yo we can we can be in these
9:10
buildings and for the people back home
9:12
it's like for the artists back home that
9:14
have seen us you know grow it gives them
9:18
hope that yo we can do it too you know
9:20
what I'm saying um that's your purpose
9:22
though to show you know yeah to show to
9:25
show everybody that it's possible and
9:26
then you know cuz after a while it's
9:28
like after a while you you you you've
9:32
achieved so much then it's like you want
9:34
to start doing it for other people kind
9:35
of I don't know if it makes sense but no
9:38
that makes sense me that's why we do
9:40
yeah to me it's like when you talk about
9:42
like the the like afro be artists now
9:44
with like ambassadors for Africa to make
9:47
yes to make it look good it is good but
9:50
to you know to portray it in a better
9:52
light than what CNN is sh or what BBC
9:54
showed you know what I'm saying you can
9:56
rely put it CNN and you know what I'm
9:58
saying once in a while
10:00
they show the tourism Parts the culture
10:01
side of it but now I'm telling you the
10:03
parts in Legos it's like you even know
10:05
you in Legos yeah Miami like you know it
10:08
feels like that right real estat in
10:10
Africa now is going crazy like I'm
10:12
telling you so like in I see like in
10:14
next 10 20
10:16
years yeah might be like here might be
10:19
like here might be better than here
10:21
Heather B um when you came in one of the
10:24
first things you started to say to sway
10:26
and to everybody here that you were
10:28
happy yeah and is it's very rare that we
10:30
hear that word a lot of times people say
10:32
I'm good I'm good you know but you said
10:34
you're happy and that just started to
10:36
make me think about like wow he's
10:38
walking in his purpose and possibly
10:40
living his dream and what does that feel
10:43
like cuz for me to play Madison Square
10:46
Garden would be something I wrote in
10:48
like my journal or my diary one day you
10:51
know I want to stand on the stage in
10:52
Madison Square Garden and maybe you did
10:55
that or maybe there were other things
10:56
and now you're walking in that dream
10:58
what does it feel like for you man like
11:01
I'm happy but like everybody still got
11:02
problems you know what I'm saying I'm
11:03
not no no not yeah you know what I mean
11:07
but yeah but um every time like I always
11:09
have that moment before anything either
11:11
it's a show or just a moment that's
11:13
about to happen I always take time and
11:15
just close my eyes I'm just like God
11:17
thank you like yeah like there's always
11:19
that moment I just close my eyes I'm
11:21
like ah yeah that's cuz that's the most
11:23
you can do at that moment like what you
11:25
want to do take it can't get naked and
11:27
stuff but all you can say is just like
11:29
close your eyes and be like just God
11:30
thank you because there's so many people
11:31
that want want this and so and so many
11:34
people deserve it and never get it yeah
11:37
so it's like thank you you know what I'm
11:39
saying so there's always that moment
11:41
where it's like yeah and I'm just so
11:43
happy what my joy is like seeing my boy
11:45
see my my my family be proud of me too
11:48
like you know what I'm saying smile on
11:50
their face so after every show you know
11:52
they come backstage you know the whole
11:54
family you know the whole your dad too
11:56
yeah my pops did he believe in the rap
11:58
career at first I mean he didn't believe
12:00
in no I would say he didn't believe he
12:02
just you know like everybody knows I
12:04
come from a very strict family you know
12:05
what I'm saying that family you better
12:07
be successful whatever you're doing so I
12:09
don't think and at the time African
12:10
music wasn't what it is was wasn't
12:12
wasn't what it was 10 years ago anyway
12:14
I'm talking about 20 years ago when I
12:16
was even thinking about doing music you
12:19
know like straight to my my family is
12:21
you go to school a Christian School cuz
12:24
we 7even day adven yeah you go to school
12:28
after school you do your master after
12:29
you do your Mage you go straight to work
12:31
for Dad like the office is waiting
12:33
saying waiting for you with your name on
12:35
the chair you a got straight up so but
12:38
my that wasn't you know that wasn't
12:41
my dream or whatever that was I just I
12:44
just couldn't do it so at first it was
12:46
kind of Rocky because you know my my
12:48
family they do like entertainment we we
12:50
they th the biggest parties like all the
12:52
time but they just didn't Envision one
12:55
of their own being like a Musician
12:57
musician cuz that time musicians were
12:58
looking that now we looked at yeah they
13:01
didn't have they called us for elections
13:03
and campaigns you know what I'm saying
13:05
but yeah then no I don't think any
13:09
musician at that time had seen a million
13:12
or $500,000 at that time at that time so
13:15
it wasn't really a thing that it wasn't
13:16
a thing of don't do music it were thing
13:19
of I already have it planned out for you
13:21
like what do you you know what I'm
13:22
saying so yeah follow the plan
13:24
eventually you know what I'm saying
13:25
things will getting bigger and getting
13:26
bigger and then eventually you know how
13:28
it is you know what I'm saying and then
13:29
he saw he saw that apart from like it
13:31
was getting bigger he also saw that yo
13:33
my son's really good yeah in this you
13:35
know what I'm saying that and supported
13:37
from there right fully support to your
13:39
family I feel like one day I'm going be
13:41
out there where they live Legos yeah I
13:44
see myself at the dinner table I don't
13:45
know why see see you see that to I see
13:49
it too all right I got to say I love
13:51
your success thank you and I feel like
13:54
we all share in it sincerely you know it
13:56
stretches overseas and it's is great um
14:01
you I'm sure you've heard like many of
14:02
us here new levels new Devils right and
14:05
when you had mentioned CNN and the way
14:07
that they may sometimes in other outlets
14:09
here inaccurately portray the diaspora
14:13
different countries in Africa um it made
14:15
me think of a ridiculous report that
14:18
happened in Kenya for April 4 that was
14:21
wild and I know you're taking legal
14:23
action they made up a completely false
14:27
story what was it it was saying that um
14:31
you had gotten arrested and there was
14:33
cocaine found in the car and you swiftly
14:37
the plane in a plane excuse me and you
14:39
swiftly were like yo I've never been
14:41
arrested in any country in any day of my
14:43
life life yeah what it was it was so
14:45
first of all you know shout out to the
14:47
people of Kenya they showed it was just
14:50
one crazy person that just decided to do
14:52
a April Fool's joke you know what I'm
14:54
saying but the country we just came from
14:56
East Africa we just did Uganda which is
14:59
Uganda and Kenya amazing both shows
15:01
everything went well so I just felt like
15:03
they just felt like everything went too
15:05
well and then some guy just decided to
15:07
just take his phone and be like and at
15:09
this time like my dad calling me like
15:11
where you at I'm like I'm me I'm home
15:13
like you know what I'm saying so like
15:14
what's this and I see it on the net and
15:16
at first I was like uh n no I'm not
15:19
going to report it I'm not just let it
15:21
go it's April fools then my dad like no
15:23
because you you can fly a plane into any
15:25
country now and then they bring 20
15:28
police to check you you know what I'm
15:29
saying like I hav't seen that type of
15:31
drug in my life you know what I'm saying
15:33
so so yeah I'm taking legal action
15:35
because it get you it might just go the
15:38
wrong way if we we just don't you know
15:40
what I'm saying so in your opinion is
15:42
there a difference between how media is
15:45
handled in the US oh definitely okay
15:48
definitely what me and my American
15:50
friends talk about
15:53
like yeah cuz my I have I have two sides
15:56
I have I have my Nigerian my African
15:58
friends
15:59
I have the ones that mixxed and I have
16:00
the ones that fully American yeah so
16:03
just some things might happen they like
16:05
yo why you worried about that I'm like
16:07
bro Nigeria like my country is different
16:09
like you can't just be having that type
16:11
of it's not like America where it's like
16:13
they don't it's like EMB brush you can
16:15
brush it up the littlest thing in
16:17
Nigeria like can't man you got to
16:20
respond to it not I respond it just
16:22
don't get in trouble oh okay you know
16:24
what I'm saying you just got to be
16:25
careful like you know a lot of a lot of
16:27
things that I be at you know what I'm
16:29
saying I be sometime I be in La I be
16:31
like we got to
16:33
go you just on AG man like we got to go
16:37
like I love I'm happy that yes we We've
16:39
Been Loved out here the culture but we
16:41
still have to understand that we have a
16:43
type of culture back home that there
16:45
certain things that we can just you know
16:46
what I'm saying like over overdue I love
16:50
this um deito is here man Mike Muse yeah
16:53
I have a question for you um in the
16:55
continent of Africa do you guys have
16:57
Regional sounds for your hip-hop like
16:59
does hip-hop in Nigeria sound different
17:01
than Ghana like the way that we have it
17:03
in West Coast hip-hop versus East Coast
17:04
hip I think just the maybe a little bit
17:06
of the Cadence but maybe the the
17:08
language but I think like when the
17:09
production wise is mainly like hip-hop
17:12
like but right now like Nigerian um rap
17:15
is B big on drill right now like on
17:17
drill wow I'm telling you like going
17:19
crazy there's this new new rapper called
17:21
odumodu killing it OD OD modu black yeah
17:25
like he like drill um laan too but latan
17:29
is a rapper he does more of like
17:31
Nigerian culture rap uhuh you know what
17:33
I'm saying so he's more of like mixing
17:35
it with like more afro beats but then we
17:37
have musicians that's like just straight
17:39
rap like really yes I'm I'm going give
17:43
you before I leave I'm just give you
17:44
some songs yeah yeah hook me up hook me
17:45
up um we about to be best friends um but
17:48
yeah they love hip-hop every every
17:50
December somebody comes like from n
17:53
somebody like so it's not Regional
17:54
sounds like Kenya hip-hop I like the
17:57
beats are the same cuz it's hi hop right
17:59
but I'm saying like but I I guess like
18:01
the music is different like the words
18:04
the language is way different and stuff
18:05
like
18:06
that when you walked in I called you um
18:10
The Big Three Africa's big three you
18:12
whiz and burner boy what's America's big
18:14
three
18:16
I don't get us started again
18:19
bro you feel like y'all The Big Three
18:22
just on the
18:24
planet I'm big
18:26
me w
18:29
[ __ ] all right I love this
18:31
guy and I know just like our big three
18:34
there's that competition I see the the
18:36
fans over in Africa going back and for
18:38
honestly it's all love but you know
18:40
competition is good you know what I'm
18:41
saying comp talk about competition
18:43
competition keeps the game alive you
18:45
know what I'm saying um as long as just
18:47
you know I'm saying it doesn't get into
18:48
higher but you know the fans there
18:50
always be competition you know I'm
18:51
saying that's that's the game it's just
18:53
like you have the NBA you see them
18:56
fighting over you know teams you see
18:58
them you know so
18:59
it's just always going to be like that
19:01
um but I feel like the main goal for
19:03
everybody not just the three of us or
19:05
you know there are many more artist you
19:08
know Rema K Danel yeah um arar this goes
19:13
on um the main goal I feel like is to
19:17
take the culture to another level to
19:18
another level you know what I'm saying
19:19
all this individuality or I'm this I'm
19:22
that's it doesn't matter you know what
19:24
I'm saying because first of all it's
19:26
only a
19:27
hand I can count how many of us are
19:29
really popping out here yeah so for us
19:31
to divide ourselves sound crazy yeah you
19:34
know what I'm saying that's how I feel
19:35
about it do y'all communicate you with
19:38
Burner at
19:40
all not not really no okay all right
19:45
that's so this is like the big three
19:47
right how communicate like you know say
19:49
like have each other's numbers like no
19:50
like all love but like yeah everybody
19:53
grew up different you know what I'm
19:54
saying we're all from different parts of
19:55
Nigeria you know what I'm saying so um
19:58
God just God blessed us know God bless
20:01
y'all I like your outlook on that man
20:03
and you you all are winning uh but I
20:06
just like those parallels you know when
20:08
we talk about Kendrick and J I'm like
20:10
you I like competition bro crazy I like
20:13
that uh what you think of of that
20:15
particular those as a as a as an artist
20:18
when you heard the the the the songs how
20:20
did you respond I
20:22
mean he ain't trying to tap
20:25
in I'm I'm to stay my ass in Africa
20:27
please
20:29
stay my ass in Africa
20:31
man is battle rap a sector of like
20:35
African hip-hop um not not really you
20:38
know what I'm saying not actually you
20:41
you rely see songs like in Africa like
20:43
going crazy but there there's this like
20:46
um I can't say the drink because I'm
20:47
signed to another drink but there this
20:48
drink they do a cipher yeah they do like
20:51
a cipher they invites okay different
20:53
rappers yeah know yeah and they battle
20:55
each other so that's like one thing but
20:57
it's not really like crazy in the
20:59
culture okay you know interesting can
21:01
you talk about um cuz I know You' done
21:04
tracks on Chris's new album and then you
21:06
you you and Chris have been doing was
21:07
blow my mind the first thing yall did
21:09
the first thing we did was blow my mind
21:11
and then from there we just beautiful so
21:14
his influence like him embracing afro
21:16
beats and African sounds how how how
21:19
important was that to catapulting the
21:21
genre I feel like first of all like with
21:23
music I feel like like this is my
21:26
personal opinion I feel like you kind of
21:28
have to be friends you know what I'm
21:29
saying when we did blow my mind um I got
21:32
the feature through a friend of his he
21:35
was like messing with my Chris was
21:37
messing with my music at the time so you
21:39
know what I'm saying he just did that
21:40
off the strength off his friend know
21:42
what I'm saying and then that was A's
21:44
sister was it no no no no no what was
21:48
that you know what I'm talking about
21:49
right you talking about meek meek that
21:51
was with Meek yeah me yeah okay go ahead
21:55
so um we did blow my mind um and then it
21:58
went crazy and that was like kind of the
21:59
first time
22:01
like an afobe collaboration I mean apart
22:03
from like one dance that did but that
22:05
was like the first crazy African
22:08
collaboration especially with Chris
22:09
Brown Chris Chris did more in the video
22:11
than me like he yeah she you know he was
22:14
there like six seven hours and I'm
22:15
looking like like this guy really loves
22:18
his art like he loves what he's doing
22:19
like he don't even know me like that you
22:21
know what I'm saying that's the first
22:22
time we met and then off that we just
22:24
became you know cool and then we just I
22:27
go to the CRI just just kind of playing
22:29
music and it it really started cuz I
22:32
started like bring he I think he noticed
22:34
that I wasn't selfish with it yeah you
22:36
know I could have kept everything for
22:37
myself like the dude that brought the
22:39
produce Under the Influence one of
22:42
Chris's most streamed songs ever like
22:44
that was my producer I was working at
22:46
the time K dominant you know what I'm
22:48
saying I brought him in I could have
22:50
been on a song If I wanted to but I was
22:51
like you know what I'm trying to um you
22:53
know bring this new sound to Chris let
22:55
him listen to it and I brought like
22:56
other producers that have worked with
22:57
him as well mhm so I think from that he
23:00
just knew that you know what I'm saying
23:01
I love the art the same way he does you
23:04
know what I'm saying and then we just
23:05
started making music and then
23:07
Sensational came in there oh man the
23:10
rest is history and it wasn't like we
23:11
never even slow down like we Dro blow my
23:13
mind we drop another one it wouldn't do
23:15
as well you know some people drop songs
23:17
they don't it don't do well they don't
23:18
want to be friends no more like oh
23:20
really that happens yeah what it happens
23:23
to me all the time like I'll be happy
23:24
for it come out when it come up we like
23:26
man we not good together
23:29
incompatible yeah but like with me and
23:30
him it was just always it was just
23:32
always going and going uhhuh and we just
23:34
noticed that we had some type of synergy
23:36
and
23:37
then Sensational came out and then we
23:39
just dropped another one yesterday on
23:41
his album man I love Chris Brown man um
23:44
I love this Davido is here um what does
23:47
TW TW mean TW TW yeah am I saying it
23:50
right TW TW TW TW TW say twerk like
23:53
twerk twerk oh
23:55
twerk is that what we say that's what
23:57
you say twerk TW TW TW twerk twerk twk
24:00
twerk TW [ __ ] I thought it was a [ __ ]
24:03
dial African word I'm like what does
24:06
that there's actually there's actually I
24:08
think there's actually a word that's it
24:10
was the whole point of the is twerk
24:13
twerk but you know what I'm saying oh
24:14
okay shout to Kids Daniel Daniel you had
24:16
him on the show before I think did we
24:17
have kids Daniel on the show I don't
24:19
think so I've had everybody on the show
24:22
yeah yeah cuz Down's um way before
24:24
everybody else start having people on
24:25
the show okay I just want to say that
24:27
and okay down like me Andis me like me
24:30
and Chris too like we have M records
24:31
together like when we come together as
24:33
well like and it's weird cuz me and him
24:36
like we always on the phone but like we
24:37
don't see that much but like every time
24:39
we get to see and make music it just
24:42
goes crazy goes crazy um man davidito is
24:45
here there's a statistic that one out of
24:49
10 black people in um in the United
24:53
States are from foreign
24:55
places right so if we got 14 I don't
24:57
know if this is we got 14 million people
25:00
mhm you know 10% of them are not they're
25:03
from other places right they're from
25:05
other places in the diaspora so that's
25:07
1.4 million people over here do you
25:10
think that's contributed to the success
25:12
you're starting to see definitely like
25:13
the Afric even when I was in school in
25:15
Alabama like I'd play African music for
25:17
like the people in the dorm so even just
25:20
doing that it spreading like you know
25:22
what I'm saying um it got to a point
25:25
like there was a lot of African ball
25:26
especially in Atlanta I saw this happen
25:28
in front of my eyes because I was in
25:30
Atlanta party seed you know what I'm
25:32
saying so there was this period where
25:34
only the Africans have money you know
25:35
what I'm saying and then they'll go in
25:37
the club and they buying all type of
25:39
bottles like they spending 30,000 40,000
25:42
but they telling DJ when my bottles come
25:45
out I want to hear this I want to hear
25:47
that so over that too that's another
25:50
Avenue like it's from the clubs it just
25:51
came the whole culture just came from
25:53
everywhere and obviously the internet
25:55
you know connected us as well so you
25:57
guys have seen a lot of things happening
25:59
back home um and then um Ghana happened
26:03
a lot of people were going to Ghana to
26:05
visit you know the year return that was
26:07
a cou I've been there you been haven't
26:10
you've been to Legos yeah I have not
26:12
gone to Legos I'm supposed to I've done
26:14
interviews with Nigerian platforms and
26:17
everybody said they was going to bring
26:18
me over there over there but nobody has
26:21
maybe you could change that come on
26:22
that's home man anytime like I I be
26:24
telling I sometimes I go I don't be home
26:26
that much and I'll be telling people
26:28
when I go home just come like that's my
26:30
friend yes friends for six years okay
26:33
and then you know why you got you saw La
26:36
out are you from the west coast
26:39
of why y'all so vague man where you from
26:43
I'm originally from
26:46
Ohio I see what you mean so you went to
26:48
Nigeria the first
26:50
time get that
26:52
Drew huh 202 how was it the best
26:57
experience ever I didn't think it was
26:59
like real motion it's real motion I just
27:02
had Kai Kai sonak came out there Kai
27:04
went out there oh I know he went bunkers
27:08
bro he see I when we both got sick like
27:12
after the kai came Phantom came they
27:15
were streaming out in Lagos it was crazy
27:17
they went to Ghana like it was crazy cuz
27:20
I always tell like yeah you to come out
27:21
streaming Nigeria like so these are he
27:23
went to um all the schools he went he
27:25
went to the good parts he went to the
27:27
bad parts
27:28
he was outside like yeah the only person
27:30
I knew that was outside like Kai is
27:33
kasanova kasanova ah from here okay yes
27:36
Cova from New York rapper that's
27:39
Brook okay I'll be in the house I'm like
27:41
where you at he like I'm like gorilla
27:44
yeah he was going everywhere without me
27:45
like he was outside like he [ __ ] he took
27:47
a picture with a hyena I ain't never
27:49
seen no hyena he took a
27:51
picture why' you see Hena know I'm
27:54
saying you sure it wasn't up here no I'm
27:57
telling you like he was outside so it
27:59
was just good to see that people come
28:01
out there and I think they get shocked
28:04
and they get excited like yo it's not
28:06
what they told us like I'm here I'm I'm
28:09
moving my flight like you know what I'm
28:10
saying they don't want us to know they
28:12
don't want us to go to Africa that's why
28:14
we're here that's why we're here to tell
28:16
you you know what I'm saying you know me
28:18
my colleagues you know everybody else
28:20
putting Africa on a map whether it's
28:22
music Sports fashion film
28:25
M it's crazy what you want black folks
28:28
over here to know about about that like
28:30
going to Africa like um it's safe yeah
28:36
know what I'm saying everywhere's got a
28:37
dangerous part a safe part you know
28:39
apart from that um I just feel like it's
28:41
good for people to just know that even
28:44
when you're in America there's always
28:44
some way you can go back to and chill
28:47
out and just you know and you be walked
28:49
you be I'm telling you everybody that
28:50
comes yeah for the first time when you
28:52
leaving they always cry like man I ain't
28:54
trying to go don't want to leave you
28:56
know what I'm saying and before it was
28:58
crazy how before it was kind of crazy
29:00
how like and now it's kind of like a
29:02
little bit like turning around how back
29:05
then it was like we used to like want it
29:09
was to be like a Dre it was a thing for
29:10
you to have like an American Artist on
29:11
your song like it was a thing like
29:15
whether you pay for it whether free
29:16
whether it's through somebody it was a
29:18
thing and then now it's like reversing
29:21
it's reversing now they want an African
29:23
artist on the song and that's like
29:25
reversing like even with me apart from
29:27
Chris like yeah I'm not even going how
29:29
many people hit you
29:31
up word I'm not even going to disturb
29:34
myself like yeah Chris I know cuz we
29:36
make great music I'll go to his house
29:37
I'll be like yo wake up come on let's
29:39
get it you know what I'm saying but
29:41
everybody else is just like if we make
29:43
good music like amazing like I was in
29:45
studio with VCT Victoria Monet we we
29:49
made we made some we made something
29:52
crazy so it's just stuff like that that
29:55
happens naturally you know I like you
29:57
know what I'm saying um Rihanna said
29:59
unavailable her best song so I'm waiting
30:01
for her You Waiting For What Riri what's
30:03
up we waiting for her too Fu coming to
30:07
that session too but um you invited
30:10
yourself a lot of places in this
30:11
conversation I'm just keeping
30:13
track
30:15
outs apart from that I also want to work
30:17
at like um Latin Latino Artist as well
30:20
Bad Bunny I've worked with Anita and um
30:23
Becky G but we haven't figured that out
30:25
yet Jay bin I've been really you know um
30:30
met him yet but he's done a couple songs
30:32
with um Nigerian artist though yeah okay
30:35
hey D Vito hey man it's it's a pleasure
30:37
to have you here this morning
30:39
brother hey promise you'll keep coming
30:41
back man of course of course of course
30:43
