US: King Charles III visits UK's first eco-friendly mosque, meets Muslim community.

KING CHARLES III WALKING OUT OF MOSQUECAMBRIDGE, UNITED KINGDOM - JULY 20: King Charles III visited Cambridge Central Mosque, described as Europe’s first eco-friendly mosque, and met representatives of the Muslim community on Monday, July 20. During the visit, the king met the mosque’s imams, trustees and members of the Muslim community in Cambridge. Turkish Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertas, Cambridge Mosque trustee Zeynep Coskun Koc, Turkish Deputy President of Religious Affairs Selim Argun and several guests also attended the program. The visit highlighted Britain's commitment to religious diversity and interfaith engagement. King Charles toured the Cambridge Central Mosque, which was built with contributions from the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV), and was briefed on its architecture, sustainability features and community services. He also visited the mosque's community garden, where discussions focused on the role of faith communities in tackling climate change and the mosque's social outreach. Designed by London-based Marks Barfield Architects, the mosque incorporates solar panels, air-source heat pumps, natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting and sustainably sourced timber. It also provides food packages for families in need, hosts health awareness programs and supports youth-led volunteer initiatives. During the visit, King Charles was presented with commemorative gifts, including a glass paperweight inspired by the dome of Selimiye Mosque, a limited-edition publication on the scientific heritage of Islamic civilization, and a book documenting the construction and award-winning design of the Cambridge Central Mosque. Opened in 2019 with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the mosque accommodates around 1,000 worshippers and has received numerous international awards for its architecture and environmental design.
