El-Sayed, who was born to an Egyptian immigrant family, will face former US Representative Mike Rogers, who secured the Republican nomination, in November's midterm elections. If elected, El-Sayed would become the first Muslim elected to the US Senate. El-Sayed has described Israel's attacks on Palestinians as genocide and has argued that resources provided to Israel should instead be directed toward health care, housing and infrastructure in the US.
